Notes: With Art Ward at the wheel, the team qualified no. 1 for Super Eliminator at '68 NHRA World Finals in Tulsa with a 7.58. We need confirmation of whether John Dekker drove the car in 1968, need the ET, and need confirmation of the 184.04 speed. | Roger Guzman's new Corvair featured a 124" wheelbase chassis built by Seyfer. It was not a lightweight, weighing in at 2,100 lbs. The engine was a 427 Chevy bored and stroked with a Crankshaft Company crank to 497 cubic inches. The engine used a Howards cam. A B&M TorqueFlite transmission was used.

Notes: Rusty failed to qualify for an eight-car show at OCIR on January 14, but he got in when Tom Sturm's Corvair had motor damage while qualifying and couldn't run. Delling was the first alternate, but his first-round 9.36/107.39 lost to Jim Liberman's 7.85/183. On January 28, the team went to Lions for the AHRA Winter Funny Car meet. A 9.39 qualified, but they lost early. At Lions on February 24, an 8.41 qualified sixteenth and a first-round 8.08/181.44 defeated Gene Conway's 8.13/176.81. An 8.44/170.45 advanced over Bob Sullivan's ailing Camaro in round two. In the semifinal, he lost a motor and the race to Fred Goeske's 8.98. He qualified in the unlucky #13 spot at Irwindale on March 3 but lost a close one in the first round, when his 8.29 lost to Steve Bovan's 8.26. He grabbed a big win at Fremont on March 17 for the West Coast Championships. A final round 8.22/177.16 stopped Conway for the money. Rusty was at Lions on March 30, where all cars ran three races. He won his first race over Gene Conway's new Firebird with an 8.37/172.74. In his second race, Conway beat his 8.45/170.45 with an 8.18/173. In his third race, Delling ran a consistent 8.39/171.42 to beat the Fisher-Greth car. He was back at OCIR on April 13 when 22 cars ran the first round, and the eight lowest ET's advanced into round two. Rusty ran an off pace 8.94/171.75 that lost to Hayden Proffitt's Rebel at 8.51/168. His ET failed to advance into the second round. Lions held an eight-car show on May 18 and the "New Breed" qualified #3 with an 8.52/166.85. He picked up to an 8.33/158.85 in the first round, but it wasn't enough to beat Dale Williams' 8.17/173 in Jess Tyree's Firebird. A sixteen-car show was run at Irwindale on June 22, and Rusty lasted until round two. In the first round, Andy Clary broke on the line, and Delling advanced with an 8.38/172.41, but in round two, his 8.39/172.08 lost to Gas Ronda's Mustang at 8.07/175. Six FC's ran at Las Vegas on July 27 and the "New Breed" was there. Dellings' 8.33 defeated Steve Bovan's 8.59 in the "Super Chief in the opening round." Rusty had problems in the semifinal, and his 14.35 at 150.00 lost to Kip Brundage's 8.58/169 in the "Parts Mart" Camaro. Kip lost his engine on the pass, so Delling was reinstated for the final against Gordon Mineo. But his off-pace 9.06/165.44 finished runner-up to Mineo's 8.55/146. On August 10, he was at OCIR for a sixteen-car show. Jack Chrisman's Comet broke in the opening round, so the "New Breed" advanced with an 8.33/176.12. In the second round, his 8.19/178.57 beat Wendell Shipman's 8.29/185. In the semifinal, he slowed to 8.48/178.92, which lost to Conway's 8.29/171 Jeep. On September 29, Delling was one of 35 Funny Car drivers that showed up at Lions for an eight-car show. All the cars ran a qualifying round, with the eight lowest ET's advancing into the eight-car field. Delling qualified for the field, but he lost to Dick Bourgeois in the first round. Also ran 8.22 at Fremont. Did Pete Everett own this car? Rusty also drove this car at the 1968 OCIR Mfg. Championships.

Notes: Delling drove the Javelin to several wins. The most notable was the 'World News Nationals' in Kansas City in 1969. At the HRM Championships on March 16, Rusty ran an 8.10 to qualify #13. In the first round, an 8.12/180.72 lost to Rich Siroonian. He failed to qualify at Lions on March 22 when 22 cars showed for an eight-car field. He was in good company as Tom McEwen, Ray Alley, Dick Loehr, Dale Pulde and others, all failed in their bids to make the field. He raced at the second annual Manufacturer's Funny Car Open on May 3, where an 8.70 qualified second on the AMC team. In the first race, Gordon Mineo's 7.95/178 beat his 8.23/179.28. Rusty ran a 9.49/173.41 in the second race over a broken Dave Beebe. A week later, on May 10, he was at Lions for an eight-car show where an 8.22 qualified #4. He improved that time to an 8.14 in the first round, but lost to Larry Fullerton. An 8.07 qualified #13 at OCIR for the Funny Car 500 on May 31. Steve Bovan lost a driveshaft in the first round, against him. Unfortunately, in round two, it was Delling's turn to have trouble when his car caught fire while staging. He was ok, but out of the race. Back at OCIR on July 19 for the PDA Championships, an 8.26 qualified #11. He failed to make it into the final round. He lost a close one to Ed Lenarth's 7.87/165 to Rusty's 7.92/167.39 in the first round, at a sixteen-car show at Irwindale on August 16. Another first-round loss came at Lions on August 30 for the Drag News Nationals. Johnny Wright's 7.78/192 beat the Javelin's ailing 9.20/176.12. As the season went on, the little Javelin seemed to pick up the pace. On September 1, a 7.90 qualified #7 for an eight-car show at Irwindale. He lost with an even better 7.84/186.36 in the first round, to Wright's 7.81. Another eight-car show followed on September 6 at OCIR. An 8.03 qualified #6, but he improved to a first-round 7.81/182.55 over a crossed-up Larry Fullerton. In the semifinal, a blown transmission ended his chances against Mike Van Sant. On September 13, Lions held another eight-car show, but they decided to run two fields with so many cars on hand. The top eight were in bracket one, and the cars that failed to make the top eight were in bracket two. Delling failed to make the top eight, so he raced in the second field of cars. Unfortunately, an off-pace 8.67/182.18 lost to Bob Smith's 7.82/173 in the first round.

Notes: Gary started the '77 season at Fremont's Nitro Bowl race. There were ten FCs competing and they all made two runs. Gary lost his first race to Bob Pickett who ran Low ET and Top Speed in beating him (6.49/210). But in his second race, Densham’s 7.54/189 beat Phil Castronovo. He failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals.

Notes: Jim started the year by winning over an eight-car field at Irwindale on January 1. He beat Billy Meyer in the final. At the OCIR Opener, he beat an up-in-flames Jim Liberman in the first round with a 7.03/177, but he lost in the semifinals. He failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. At Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet, he qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field with a 6.77 but lost early. Jim did well at the NHRA Fallnationals in Seattle, qualifying #2 at 6.26/214.79. In round one, he beat Jim Moore, 6.51/204.08 to 7.66/176. He took out Rob Williams in round two, 6.42 to 6.81 (no speeds reported). Jim took a close win over Tripp Shumake in the semis, 6.28/229.00 to 6.29/223. He shut off to an 11-second run in the final, and Billy Meyer got the win at 6.53/211. Jim was the first alternate at the Ontario World Finals at 6.31/226.70. | Dunn was 3rd quickest at the '77 64 FCs at SIR at 6.46, after doing a burnout *from the finish line* after the all-cars fire-up on the track. Notes: Eldridge's new Corvette was only out for its second week when he showed up with it at Irwindale on August 26 for an eight-car show. In the first round, his 8.46/175.78 beat Dee Keaton's 8.60/166. Gene Conway fouled against him in the semifinal, and Marv's 9.53/169.49 advanced. He faced yet another Corvette in the final. This one belonging to Ronnie Runyan. Marv was quicker and faster at 8.49/176.81, but he crossed the stripe second behind Runyan's quicker-leaving 8.65/159. On September 30, he was at Lions for an eight-car show, but he lost to Conway in the opening round. The following week (October 7), he was at OCIR for a best-of-three-match race against Charlie Allen's Dart. In their first race, Eldridge's 8.70/174 lost to Allen's 8.35/171. Charlie's car blew a head gasket in the second race, but his 8.70/122 still beat Marv's 8.99/178 to win the match. Late in the year (December 9), he was back at Lions for another eight-car show. In the opening round, his 8.72/167.91 lost to eventual winner Dick Loehr's 7.92/182. A few days later (December 10), Eldridge was at Irwindale. His 8.37/176.96 qualified #5 for the eight-car field. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Gene Ciambella in the "Destroyer" Jeep. Gene's 8.22/177 beat Marv's 8.54/173.74 in their race. OCIR held its final race of the '67 season on December 17. The FC's were progressing so quickly that Marv's still new Corvette failed to qualify for the eight-car show. His 8.27 was the first alternate. The photo appears to be the 1968 model.

Notes: Marv's Corvette used a 392 Hemi running on 80% nitro. It used M/T rods and Venolia pistons. Howards supplied the cam. A Don Hampton prepared blower sat on a Cragar manifold, and a Scott injection unit sat up on top. A Cragar blower drive was also used. C&O prepared the Torqueflite transmission, and the power was fed back to a Mopar rear with 3.73 gears. Eldridge started the season at Irwindale's New Year's Day race. Unfortunately, he was one of 24 cars that failed to qualify for the sixteen-car field. Marv qualified ninth at Pomona's tricky surface with an 8.27/185.95 for the NHRA Winternationals. By qualifying ninth, it meant he had to race the number one qualifier, and the only car that ran a seven in qualifying, Tom McEwen, in the first round. But a smoking 8.60 defeated the 8.96 of McEwen. He ran an 8.25/183.67 in the second round that lost to Leonard Hughes 7.86. On March 9 at the Sears Point National Open, he finished runner-up to Danny Ongais. National Trail hosted a Coca-Cola Cavalcade race on August 17. He lost to Jack Chrisman's 8.20 in the first race with an 8.26. In the second race, he broke, allowing Kelly Chadwick a 7.79 single. A 7.54/189.07 qualified #15 at the US Nationals, but his transmission let go against Connie Kalitta in the first round. Lions held an eight-car show on October 4, and Eldridge ran a first-round 7.59/187.89 over Steve Bovan's 7.74/190. The Corvette got too close to the guardrail in the semifinal and kissed it, losing to Mike Van Sant. At the OCIR Funny Car Open on October 11, Marv beat Randy Walls in the first round, with a 7.62. Both he and Frank Pisano broke in the semifinals, but the Corvette out-coasted Pisano for the win. In the final, he was paired against Walls again, and again he beat him; this time, a 7.56/187.50 won the race. On October 18, he raced at Lions for a Cavalcade race. He ran a 7.84/180.72 over Jack Chrisman, who lifted a blower in the first round. A 7.76/181.08 in the second round fell to Kelly Chadwick's 7.47/190. Coke circuit ad from 1969 cited best times of 7.59/195.89.

Notes: Craig was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, and he had famed engine builder Amos Satterlee turning the wrenches. The team qualified #6 with a 6.049/242.58. Unfortunately, Craig fell off to a 6.303/240.64 in the first round, that lost to Doc Halladay's 6.024/238.72. At the NHRA Gatornationals, the team qualified #7 with a 6.092/241.28. Again, they lost in round one, when a 6.422/227.84 failed to hold back Tim Grose's 6.263/231.95. NHRA held its Division 6 Opener at OCIR on March 28, and Epperly set Low ET at 6.03 before fouling in the final against John Force. At Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, Craig ran 6.093/236.22 to qualify #6 in the eight-car field. After qualifying, the team headed back to California to do repairs. They never made it back to Atlanta for eliminations. Craig began driving for Joe Pisano in May, but returned to the seat of the HB Gold car at the OCIR Manfactuters Meet late in the year (Al Segrini drove for Joe Pisano there).
