He beat low qualifier John Lombardo in the first round with a 6.64/207.86 when John crossed the centerline. He won his semifinal race and moved into the final against Jake Johnston, driving the "Pisano and Matsubara" car. A final round 6.79/222.78 lost to Johnston's 6.65/185. Notes: Guzman won the NHRA Division 5 Opener in April at Pueblo Motorsports Park. He set Low ET and Top Speed in qualifying with a 6.32/219.99. In the final, he beat Dave Benjamin for the title. He won the subsequent Division 5 race at Amarillo, where once again, he set Low ET and Top Speed with 6.29/228.90 times. In the final, he won with a slow 9.75 when Paul Gordon, driving Dick Williams Firebird, crossed the center line and was disqualified. Rob was on his own turf when the NHRA tour ran in Denver at Bandimere for the Mile High Nationals. He qualified #2 with a 6.26 behind Billy Meyer's 6.23. It was an eight-car show, and in round one, his 6.29/232.55 beat John Force. He soloed in the semifinals when Henry Harrison fired to fire in the "L. A. Hooker" Corvette. In the final, he met Raymond Beadle in the "Blue Max" and it took a Low ET of the meet run of 6.19 at 234 to beat Williams close 6.21/233.76 for the victory. It was a good showing for the "Assassination" team. Rob won the NHRA Division 5 race at Bonneville Raceway in July. He qualified #1 with a 6.30/231.37 (Top Speed), then went on to set Low ET at 6.27 while beating Jim Dunn in the final. At the next Division 5 race, Rob again made it into the final, but this time he lost to Bob Pickett. At Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, his 6.063/239.99 qualified #7. He lost to Tripp Shumake in the first round. He failed to qualify at Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals. | I have him running the 5.99/242 in '80. I have 5.98 in '81 and 5.92/248 in '82. Notes: One of the brightest, prettiest cars ever painted. Rob was at Bandimere on June 25 for the NHRA Division 5 race. He set Low ET at 6.31 and went on to win, running 6.35/231.95 (Top Speed) to beat Garth Widdison's 6.59/210 in the final. The best NHRA national event times were 6.328/230.76 at the Mile Highs. The team did not follow the Western tour in 1982. | Won NHRA Division 4 race at Green Valley, TX, over Dale Pulde in the War Eagle, 6.36/222.22 to 6.51/155. National Dragster indicated it was a brand-new car and that he almost lost it on an early qualifying pass but gathered it up and returned to win the event. | I have 5.92/248 in '82. Sorry, don't have locations. - Curt Swartz

Notes: Ran 8.15/201.56 on maiden voyage at US 30. We need to confirm whether that was 1983 or 1984. If 1984, we need to adjust all the times currently listed for the Jet All-Star Nationals at Englishtown 1983 (see video).
