Notes: Mike Gagnon info. | Best NHRA national event times were 6.889/203.61. In which car(s) did he run those times? Also, we show a 6.52 in both the Jim Busby ‘Smothers Bros.’ car and the Korody-Colyer car. It is unlikely Dwight ran those amazing times in both cars this year. We need to confirm. |

Notes: The team ran this car early in 1972 before bringing out their Ed Mabry-built rear-engine car. Early in the year, Steve qualified #9 for NHRA Gainesville with a front-engine machine at 6.610/217.91. He lost to Garlits in round one, 6.25/211 to 6.658/211.26. Steve qualified #15 at IHRA Dallas in June and ran 6.82/200.89 in a loss to Mike Tarter's 6.67/216.34 in round one. We are not sure if that was in this FED or in the new rear-engine car. |

Notes: In 1972, Pryor decided to go racing full time and teamed with the late Chuck Hurst. They bought a new Woody Gilmore car (originally built for Guy Allen, father of Jeb and Les) and a blown fuel Donovan powerplant from Ed Pink. Because he was in California to get his car, he made a trio of licensing passes at Irwindale during a points meet, then trailered home and ran at the Division 3 event at Beech Bend Raceway Park to complete the licensing. - Phil Burgess, Dragster Insider, 9/30/08 |
