Notes: Photo from the 1979 NHRA Gatornationals, Gainesville, Florida. Qualified there at 6.41 but lost to Ron Colson in round 1, 6.33 to 6.68/214.79. At the National Dragster Championships, George ran 6.36/218.97 to qualify #4 in the eight-car field. Unfortunately, the car broke in the opening round of competition, giving his opponent, R.C. Sherman, a solo into the semifinal. On June 24, he was at Maryland International for the NHRA Division One race. He got a solo in round one, and advanced with a 7.09/199.11. In the semifinals, his 7.11/208.33 beat John Speelman's 7.33/198. He faced Dominic Santucci in the final, and George took a gamble on the tree and fouled. He won Englishtown Crazy Eddie's Night of Thrills in 1979 with a 6.31/224 over Kosty Ivanof at 6.32. He was the first alternate at the NHRA Grandnationals with a best of 6.33. George was in New England for the NHRA Division 1 final. He qualified #5 in the eight-car show, but in the first round, he fouled away a 6.91/217.39 against low qualifier Dick Rosberg. |

Notes: Rick started the '77 season by qualifying #6 at the AHRA Winternationals with a 6.87. He improved to a 6.52 in the first round, to beat Tom Anderson, but he lost to John Collins in round two. Rick was a DNQ at NHRA Pomona (times unknown). Johnson qualified second at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 6.27/221.67 behind Gordie Bonin's 6.26. In the first round, he faced Roger Lindamood and a frayed blower belt pulled the wire from the coil and the car lost fire. Lindamood got to solo into round two. The car was destroyed in crash at Edmonton in June 1977. Johnson suffered a broken leg. Photo from the 1977 NHRA Gatornationals, Gainesville, Florida. |

Notes: In mid-May, Randy won the NHRA Division Four race held at El Paso Dragway. Only five cars had shown. He not only won, but he set Low ET and Top Speed in the first round, where his 7.27/191.23 defeated Johnny White. Randy made an easy solo in the semi-final due to the odd number of cars. He faced Frank O'Brien in the final, and Frank broke while Lackey ran 7.44/187.11 for the victory. Randy was a DNQ at NHRA Indy at 6.86/222.77. Notes: After a great '89 season that saw them win the NHRA Funny Car Championship, Larson and crew chief Maynard Yingst put forth another strong effort in '90. At Pomona, for the NHRA Winternationals, a 5.37/273.97 qualified #4. Bruce improved to a 5.34/277.43 in the first round to beat Al Hofmann, and a further improving 5.31/271.16 in round two stopped Scott Kalitta's 5.44/250. But in the semifinals, an off-pace 5.54/267.06 lost to K.C. Spurlock's 5.39/276. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, Larson qualified #5 with a 5.34/273.14. He set a track record 5.24 in the first round, while beating Johnny West. In the second round, he ran a 5.26/272.72 solo when Glenn Mikres broke and could not run. In the semifinals, he met Mark Oswald in the "Candies & Hughes" Probe. Both drivers had problems, and Larson recovered first to win with a 6.43/147.05 over Mark's 10.97/71. In the final, he again had problems and shut off to 13.18, while Dale Pulde won a 5.37. He got into the final at the next NHRA event as well, the Supernationals at Houston. Bruce qualified #2 with a 5.30/277.69. He got lucky in round one, where his 6.63/186.11 advanced over a troubled Al Hofmann. In round two, he picked up the pace to a 5.31/265.72 to stop Spurlock's 5.34/275. Ed McCulloch smoked the tires against him in the semifinals and his 5.32/268.97 advanced into the finals. There, he ran John Force. Unfortunately, Larson smoked the tires and shut off to an 8.70-98.72, while Force won with a 5.36/272. The Gatornationals at Gainesville was the next stop on the NHRA tour. Bruce ran 5.48/271.00 to qualify #8. He beat Richard Hartman in the first round, while a strong 5.28/272 beat Mikres in round two. He got out of shape and shut off in the semifinals, losing to McCulloch's 5.44/265. At Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, Larson set a track record of 280.89 in qualifying. The accompanying ET of 5.24 qualified #2. He lost a motor in the first round, but his 5.26/273 still beat Doc Halladay. After putting in a new bullet, a 5.28/269 in round two beat Jerry Caminito. But in the semifinals, he smoked the tires and lost to eventual winner McCulloch. The Mid-South Nationals at Memphis were next on the NHRA schedule. A 5.28 qualified #3 in the field. Larson lasted until the semifinals before his 5.50 lost to Oswald's 5.40. At Baton Rouge, for the NHRA Cajun Nationals, a 5.47/273.63 qualified #5. He beat Tim Grose in the first round before losing a blower and the race to McCulloch in round two. Tim Richards gave tuning tips. Photo from the 1990 NHRA US Nationals, Indianapolis Raceway Park. |

Notes: Lindamood had a new Challenger built for the '71 season. It was 400 lbs. lighter than his '70 car. The new Logghe-built chassis was smaller and lighter than last year's version, and he did away with his cooling system and no longer carried two batteries on board. Roger started his '71 season at Orlando for the Drag News Championships on January 4. He qualified #6 with an 8.69 on the poor strip surface. In the first round, he picked up to an 8.26/176.17 to beat Bruce Neff. But in round two, he lost a motor on the line, giving Larry Arnold a single. Roger was Aquasco for the President's Cup Championships. It was an eight-car show. He actually lost in the first round, when his 7.17/178.92 failed to get past Tommy Grove's 6.96/210, but he got back in on the "break rule" when "Jungle Jim" Liberman broke after winning his first-round race. He made good of his second chance by beating Dick Rosberg in the "Fighting Irish" Camaro in the semifinals with a 7.11/207.84. He was up against Mike Burkhart in the final, and Mike's 7.38 finished runner-up to Lindamood's 7.06/207.84. At Connecticut in July, Roger set a 6.86 track record. In mid-September, Lindamood was at Suffolk for the Dixie Dag Classic. In the opening round, his 6.82/211.26 defeated Tony Wahlay. He then set Low ET in round two, where his 6.80 advanced when Tom Grove's car blew a rear end. He stayed strong in the semifinal, where he ran 6.83/208.80 over Gene Snow's 6.95. He faced the "Fighting Irish" car of Dick Rosberg in the final. Dick's times had been slower all through eliminations, but he came up with a 6.81 in the final to upset Roger's 6.86 runner-up effort. The following week (September 19), he was in New England for its big 32 car FC Nationals. He beat Tim Kushi in the first round before losing in round two. Over the '71 season, Lindamood won 21 eight-car events. He also ran a 6.80 at New England Dragway at Epping, NH, on 10/71.
