Notes: Strickler's Bill Jenkins-tuned "factory issue" 409 ran in the new-for-'62 SS/S (Super Super/Stock) class. Reflecting NHRA's constant penchant for class shuffling, this would revert to simply S/S the following year. When equipped with the special Z-11 heads and two-piece aluminum manifold introduced in late summer this car ran B/FX (also new for '62). - RT |

Notes: Dave started the '86 season by qualifying #15 at Pomona for the Winternationals with a 7.70/179.28. An even better 7.67/179.28 in the first round, lost to Ken Dondero's 7.59/179. At the Gatornationals, he qualified #11, but in the first round, his 7.71/176.12 lost to Butch Leal's 7.55/182. Things didn't go so well at Atlanta for the Southern Nationals in April. Dave's best of 7.68/178.92 failed to qualify (first alternate). He made up for the lackluster performance by going to Baton Rouge for the Cajun Nationals and qualifying #2 with a 7.58/183.71. Unfortunately, he lost to Bob Glidden in the first round. He again qualified well at the next event, the Springnationals at National Trail. Don qualified #4 with a 7.58/179.03. A first-round 7.63/176.92 beat Reid Whisnant's 7.71/178. A holeshot by Jerry Eckman in round two put the Camaro on the trailer. Hutchens' 7.66/176.95 lost to Eckman's 7.69/179. In Canada for the Grandnationals, a 7.62/181.74 qualified #6. | At the US Nationals Hutchens qualified #3 with a 7.496/187.57. In round 1 Hutchens ran #11 qualifier Don Campanello but Hutchens would red light & throw away a 7.589. |
