Notes: Vern ran the first "six" in South Dakota history during qualifying for the third NHRA Division 5 race held at Thunder Valley at Marion, SD, on June 28. His 6.98 led the eight-car field in qualifying. He improved to 6.95/192.30 to beat Brian Budd in the first round, but in the semifinals, he lost a motor and the race when his slowing 7.37 fell to John Wiebe’s 6.82. On July 26, Vern Anderson won NHRA's Division 5 Points race at Donnybrooke International with Low ET and Top Speed coming in the final when his 6.85/223.32 single took the win when Denny Darraugh failed to fire. He also qualified for the NHRA Supernationals with a 6.88, which was good for the #24 spot in the 32-car field. He beat Jim Davis in the first round with a 6.89/213 before losing in round two. | Best NHRA national event times were 6.631/226.13 at the World Finals. |
