Notes: Paula had driven Tony Fox's Pollution Packer car at the Winternationals and Bonneville, which gave her the bug to build her own rocket. Don Tuttle built this chassis with a Ky Michaelson engine. On her first full pass in the car at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, the fuel did not shut off. The parachutes failed and the car hit the end of the strip and went airborne. Paula suffered a broken neck and was out of commission for three years. She returned to race around the world with Johnny Parsons in 1976 in two different Pontiac race cars. Paula went on to race a B/Modified Datsun, but never got it sorted out. She then raced a Z/Stock Honda Civic with factory backing that was undoubtedly one of the first front wheel cars to race on a drag strip. - Paula and Dan Murphy, Racin & Rockin Radio Show, March 28, 2011 |
