Notes: Don failed to qualify at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 7.380/186.99 best. He did not race at another NHRA event until Englishtown in May for the Mopar Parts Nationals, where his 7.304/190.59 was the eleventh alternate. He disappeared again, not to be seen until Indy for the NHRA U.S. Nats. He was the eighteenth alternate at 7.393/186.76. Shortly after that, he was at Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals, where he was the tenth alternate at 7.311/188.28. That was Don's last NHRA national event of the year. |

Notes: Frank ran a Ford on his own for one more year after the Bernstein deal fell through. This was actually a new 1987 car by Jerry Haas. Iaconio debuted the car at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals where he was the fourth alternate at 7.573/183.78. He also ran at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, where his 7.645/182.80 failed to qualify. Frank also missed the fields at NHRA Englishtown (7.618/181.81) and Maple Grove (7.646/181.15). |

Notes: Frank was the fifth alternate at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals at 7.20/192.55. He also failed to qualify at the NHRA Arizona Nationals, where his 7.22/192.10 was the sixth alternate. He did not go to Huston for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals, but he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. He ended up as the fourth alternate with a 7.12/194.46 best. He skipped over the NHRA Winston Invitational at Rockingham. These fields were tough to get into, and Frank still failed to qualify at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, where he was the fifth alternate with a 7.18/193.13 best. He did not make the trip to Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, but he made the field at Englishtown, where his 7.10/194.17 qualified #13 for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals. Unfortunately, he lost to George Marnell in the opening round. He was back outside looking in at Richmond for the NHRA Virginia Nationals, where he was the third alternate at 7.18/192.59. Columbus turned out to be a good event for Iaconio. His 7.18/191.40 qualified #9 for the NHRA Springnationals, and he got his first-round win of the season when he ran 7.25/190.19 in the first round to beat Jerry Eckman's quicker,7.22/190. In round two, his 7.23/183.63 lost to Warren Johnson's 7.13/193. Still, this was a step in the right direction for the multi-event winner. He did not attend the NHRA Western Nationals at Topeka, but he went to Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals and qualified #14 with a 7.57/182.00. WJ defeated him in the first round, where Frank was disqualified. Confirmed 194.17 at Englishtown 95. Ran 7.168/193.58 at NHRA Indianapolis 9/95. Photo from 1994. |

Notes: Paul started the season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. Unfortunately, his best of 7.30/189.79 was good for the sixth alternate. He rebounded nicely by qualifying #8 at the Motorcraft Arizona Nationals with a 7.26/190.55. In the first round, he lost to Bruce Allen's 7.25/190 with a 7.31/190.31. Things went even better at the next NHRA event, the Slick 50 Nationals at Houston, where Paul ran a career-best 7.14/191.77 to qualify #11. He avenged his loss to Allen in the first round, with a 7.20/190.03 win over Bruce's quicker 7.19/191. In the second round, he advanced with a 7.18/191.32 when Jerry Haas fouled. He lost to eventual winner Bob Glidden in the semifinals when he fouled away a 7.23/189.79 while Glidden motored into the final with a 7.14/192. The next NHRA stop was at Gainesville for the Gatornationals. He just made the field, running a 7.16/191.53 for the "bump spot." He faced low qualifier Warren Johnson in the first round and fouled away a 7.23/190.31. He had to gamble on the tree as Warren ran 7.12/193 for the win. He qualified on the "bump" at the next race as well, the Winston Invitational, where he ran 7.22/190.96 for the spot. It was a repeat of the Gatornationals as he again bulbed against low qualifier Warren Johnson. He needed to try as Johnson ran a 7.10/196 to advance. Paul saw the red light and clicked it to a 7.41/176.88. At Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, Paul's best of 7.29/190.59 failed to qualify (ninth alternate). He picked up the pace at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, where he qualified #8 with a 7.23/190.43. In the first round, he raced Bruce Allen, and Allen's 7.26/190 beat Paul's 7.31/189.23. He was at Englishtown for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals a week later, but a best of 7.26/190.83 was good for the ninth alternate spot. The bad luck continued for the next couple of races. His 7.36/188.04 failed to qualify (tenth alternate) at the NHRA Springnationals, and at the NHRA Western Nationals, his 7.35/188.32 failed to make the show (fifth alternate). At Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals, he qualified #13 with a 7.64/178.64. A first-round 7.73/177.83 beat Vince Khoury's 7.89/178, but in round two, his consistent 7.73/178.25 lost to Glidden's 7.69/179. The following week for the NHRA California Nationals at Sonoma, he failed to qualify with a 7.30/189.39 best (fourth alternate). He also failed to make the field at Seattle for the Northwest Nationals, where he was again the fourth alternate with a 7.26/188.95 best. Things went slightly better at Brainerd for the Champion Auto Stores Nationals. Paul still failed to qualify, but his 7.31/188.99 was the first alternate. Unfortunately, he was also the first alternate at the race everyone wants to be a part of, the NHRA US Nationals at Indianapolis. His best of 7.27/191.28 fell just a little short. He also failed to qualify at Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals, where he was the fourth alternate with a 7.25/190.79. He was the ninth alternate at Topeka for the NHRA Heartland Nationals with a 7.27/190.71 best. |

Notes: Photo from 1992 Gators. Jim started the season with a runner-up finish at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #8 with a 7.24/191.57. In round his 7.27/190.51 stopped Harry Scribner and a 7.36/188.36 in the second round beat Mark Pawuk. He had a close race against Bob Glidden in the semifinals, but his 7.28/190.83 beat the Ford driver's 7.29/190. He faced Jerry Eckman in a all-Firebird final, but his 7.26/190.27 finished second best to Eckman's 7.19/192. At the NHRA Motorcraft Nationals in Arizona, a 7.27/190.07 qualified #6. Once again he ran well, beating Rickie Smith with a 7.29/188.60 and in round two, Yates' 7.43/186.52 advanced when Scott Geoffrion crossed the centerline. In the semifinals, an off-pace 7.39/187.53 lost to Don Beverley's 7.33/190. Houston was NHRA's next stop for the Slick 50 Nationals. There Jim qualified #8 with a 7.20/190.83. Another strong 7.21/190.39 advanced when Beverley fouled. In the second round his 7.24/189.19 lost to Bruce Allen's 7.21/190. Yates year took a turn for the worse at Gainesville for the Gatornationals. During qualifying the car failed fuel check. His gas was checked and registered +2.3 on the meter. Only a reading of 0 and lower were acceptable. He was suspended for the next four races. Yates appealed and was back in competition at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. Unfortunately, his best of 7.33/188.75 was good for the second alternate. This went better at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. His 7.28/189.75 qualified #6 and in the first round, he beat Gordie Rivera with a 7.29/189.63. An off-pace 7.45/187.38 lost to eventual winner Warren Johnson's 7.32/190 in round two. At the NHRA Springnationals, Jim continued to qualify in the top half of the field with a 7.30/189.03 (#7). Another 7.30/188.56 in the first round, beat Allen's quicker 7.28/188. In the second round, he had problems and shut off to 7.94/151.26 in a loss to Geoffrion's 7.31/188. |

The race was postponed due to rain, and some cars didn't return for the rain date, so Iaconio got the first-round solo and ran 8.79/153.58. In the semifinals, he lost to eventual winner Bob Glidden. He made it into the final at NHRA's next event, the Springnationals, where he qualified #6 with an 8.74. He beat Bob Gardner in round one, and in round two, his 8.76 beat Larry Lombardo's 8.81 in Bill Jenkins' Monza. In the semifinals, he beat Joe Satmary's big-block Camaro. This set up a final-round meeting with Don Nicholson. It was a good race, but "Dyno's" 8.78/153 won over Frank's 8.80/153.30. He was runner-up at the next NHRA race as well, the Summernationals at Englishtown. An 8.70/155.70 qualified #4. Don Campanello fouled against him in the first round, and Frank advanced with an 8.71/155. An 8.75 in round two beat Ronnie Manchester, while a quick-leaving 8.75/155 in the semifinals beat Nicholson's quicker 8.67. He faced Lombardo in the final, and both ran 8.68 (Iaconio at 156.52), but Larry got the win. A week later (July 16), he won the Super Stock Magazine Nationals at York US 30. It was an eight-car show and a final round 8.73/156 beat Manchester's 8.92/152. Another week later, he was runner-up to Lombardo at the NHRA Division 1 race at Maple Grove. He also ran 8.65/156 in a match race with Bobby Yowell at Suffolk in September. Frank was running legal weight and lost three straight. |

Notes: Frank ran the Ford on his own for at least 1987 after the Bernstein deal fell through. We need to confirm the T-Bird was run in 1988. |
