Notes: The funny car headers looked pretty cool. Low qualifier at IHRA Bristol 1976 at 6.85/205.01. Low ET and Top Speed at NHRA Indy at 6.65/209.30. Dale was runner up to Dave Settles when he fouled away a 6.71/209.30 in the final. Did the AA/DA go 6.47 as well or is this the famous funny car time? |

Notes: Bill started the year by winning the NHRA Division 6 Opener at Firebird Raceway. He qualified #5 for the eight-car show with a 6.56/203.61. Low qualifier Dave Hage fouled against him in round one, and Bill advanced with a 7.53/126.22. In the semifinals he ran another 6.56 at 208.33 to beat Dave Hansen's 6.58/205. This put him into the final against Denny Lucas. Barney got the victory with a 6.48/208.81 when Lucas fouled. He then went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals and almost pulled it off again. He set Low ET in qualifying #1 with a 6.35/210.77. A 6.50/208.33 beat Steve Faria in round one, while a 17.06/46.43 advanced past a fouling Stephen Fedele in round two. He picked up to 6.46/209.10 in the semifinals to beat Mark Vasquez's 6.57/210. Unfortunately, Barney fouled away a 6.58/208.81 in the final against Hage who shut off to 12.17/64 for the win. He didn't have to wait long before he won again. Bill went to Green Valley Raceway for the NHRA Division 4 Opener on March 3. He ran 6.41/208.33 to qualify #2 and then ran 6.48/205.94 over Bruce Walker's 6.84/182 in round one. In the semifinals, a 6.52/204.08 beat Troy Buff's 6.95/189. This set up a final round meeting with Bubba Sewell. Bill was too strong on this day and his 6.57/204.54 scored the victory over Bubba's 6.64/192. He qualified #4 at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 6.47/208.42, but he lost in the first round, when he fouled against Butch Osmon. |

Notes: Listed times from The Drag Racing List, December 86/January 87, Volume 1, Number 9. | The "Strangler" was at Maple Grove on June 22 for the third NHRA Division Three race. A 6.53/209.80 qualified #7 for the eight-car show. In the opening round, Arnie ran another 6.53 at 211.76, but it wasn't enough to beat Bob Newberry's 6.45/212. Karp won the NHRA Northstar Nationals in August. He qualified #4 for the eight-car show with a 6.50/218.44. An opening round 6.45/217.39 beat Tommy Johnson Jr., and in the semifinals, he improved to 6.40/217.91 to beat Pat Austin's 6.45/218. He faced the always tough Frank Manzo in the final. Arnie ran his best time of the weekend, a 6.38/218.44, to win, while Frank ran his worst run, a 6.50/217, for the runner-up spot. | Ran NHRA Columbus OH 6/86, NHRA St Pie QU 6/86, NHRA Englishtown NJ 7/86, NHRA Indianapolis IN 9/86 |
