Pic shows the Marlin "between paint jobs" running as a C, FD (C/Fuel Dragster) for lack of a proper funny car class at the NHRA Winternationals at Pomona. Fremont CA 1966 (4/22/66 Drag News) 1) This is one of those well-known match bashers less remembered for what it accomplished than what it was: A 426-hemi-powered, altered wheelbase Rambler Marlin fer chrissakes. Chassis by Blair's Speed Shop. Rambler "Flash-O-Matic" (aka Torqueflite) trans by Art Carr. Preston Honea was employed by Bill Kraft Rambler in Norwalk, CA, when his performance-minded boss offered him a new Marlin fastback to drag race. The straight-tubular front axle was soon replaced with a 5" dropped version. Featured with ultra-cool William A.
