Notes: Gary did not have a pleasant start for the '84 season. Early in the year, he was at Sacramento for the East/West Funny Car Shootout. He set Low ET and Top Speed with a 6.02/241.90, but he faced John Force in the final. Gary's reverser exploded and severely damaged his foot. Due to his accident, he didn't run again until mid-season. I believe Densham used a hand throttle at his first appearance at Carlsbad in April or May when Harrison smacked the guard rail with the Litdke Trans Am. In June, he was at Carlsbad for an eight-car show. All cars were to make two passes, with the two lowest ETs meeting in the final. He beat Ray Higley in the first race with a 6.47/159, and in the second race, he had a fuel leak and shut off. He failed to make the final. | Ran at an Oct. 5th '84 Funny Car match race at Carlsbad. The race featured a 'Goose/Grose final. Grose went 5.93 and 5.89 to win. Chi-Town was there (6.05) Dunn's new Mustang, Densham, Checker Auto Parts Citation, Amos Satterlee the CC, and Tom Ridings in the Lidtke Trans Am. - Joe Moore |

Notes: Harrison competed at the Bakersfield March Meet, where his 6.08/243.24 qualified #3 for the eight-car field. An opening round 6.10/240.64 beat Mert Littlefield, and in the semifinal, his 6.14/240.64 defeated Tim Grose's 6.26/223. In the final, he went up against the "Hawaiian" driven by Mike Dunn. Henry had trouble and shut down at 9.23 in a runner-up finish to Dunn's 6.04. Shortly after that, he was at OCIR for its first of two 64 car shows held in April. All cars were to make two passes, with the two Low ET cars meeting in the final. Harrison ran good, but his ETs were not good enough to make the final. He had run 6.06/238.72 to beat John Force in his first race. His opponent, Littlefield, tagged the guardrail in the second race, and Henry's 6.10/241.28 won their race. The following week (April 9), they did it again at OCIR. Once again, he failed to run well enough to make the final, but his 6.11/238.09 in the first round easily beat Mike Van Sant. In his second race, he fouled against Jim Dunn and shut down to 7.39. Lidtke made one of the first twin pump setups. Henry ran one NHRA national event, the World Finals. He qualified #7 at 5.887/248.61. Sherm Gunn pulled off a slight upset by defeating Harry in round one, 6.04/234.98 to 6.10/242.58. |

Notes: Lidtke made one of the first twin pump setups. Harrison started the season at Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals. He qualified #6 in the eight-car field with a 6.45. In the first round, he improved to 6.31/232.55 (Top Speed) to beat Gary Thompson, who had got out of shape and shut off. In the semifinals, he set Low ET with a 6.15 to beat Mike Dunn in the EXP-bodied "Hawaiian." He faced Don Prudhomme in the final, and the "Snake" took the victory when Henry had to shut down early with problems. He then went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where he failed to qualify for the all-five second show (times not reported). In March, he won over an eight-car field at Carlsbad. In the opening round, his 6.60 advanced over a fouling John Martin. In the semifinal, he set Low ET with his 6.15/207 beating Bryan Raines in the "Impulse" Mustang. He faced Billy McCahill in the final, and Harrison's 6.78/188.66 took the victory when Billy smoked the tires and shut off. That was the team's only NHRA national event in 1984. |

Notes: On January 19th, Lane was at Firebird Raceway for the Super Bowl of Drag racing event. Unfortunately, his best of 5.95/246.57 failed to qualify for the eight-car field. Lane traveled to Green Valley, TX, for a match race during an NHRA divisional event. Lane had to shut down after the burnout. He qualified #6 at ADRA Spokane 8/86 at 6.044/232.55. Chris qualified #6 at Phoenix for the NHRA Fallnationals with a 5.824/228.77. Unfortunately, in the first round, against Tom McEwen, he got out of shape and shut off. At Pomona for the NHRA World Finals, his 5.988/230.41 failed to qualify. ET from The Drag Racing List December 86/January 87, Volume 1, Number 9 (run in preseason testing). Video Link shows 5.88 at 250.69 at a Firebird match race against the Shake N Bake jet dragster (after taking it down to the bare block between rounds!) | Photo from the 1986 SIR 64 FCs. Wasn't 64 FCs anymore by then, but they had Force's Cavalier, Holsey and Elson's Tempo, Jim Dunn, Rodney Flournoy, Beadle in the Blue Max, Pulde's no-longer-Miller Somerset, that ran a motor-baking 5.83. - Joe Moore |

Notes: Lane started the season at Firebird Raceway for the Super Bowl of Drag Racing event. It was an eight-car field, and his 6.24 best was the first alternate. He then went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where he was the eleventh alternate with a 6.00/223.82 best. Chris was back at Firebird Raceway for the Coor's Funny Car race on April 11. He beat Gary Densham's 6.05/239 in his first race with a 6.07/226.13. The car broke against Ron Fassl in his second race. Later in the month, Lane was at Sacramento for a ten-car show. All cars there were to make two runs, with the two Low ET cars meeting in the final. In Chris' first race, his 5.81/234.93 beat Richard Langson. An off-pace 6.31/216 lost to John Force in his second race. His times were not strong enough to advance him into the final. Chris ran a confirmed 5.80/240 at AHRA Spokane Finals 8/87. His 5.75/247 performances are from 1987 match races. |

Notes: Ran nitro a couple of times. Qualified at AHRA Spokane 87, actually leaving Don Prudhomme out of the show. Prudhomme went 6.67 and Doc went quicker since he out qualified Don. But Doc had a huge fire and crashed at the top end, resulting in a concussion. Prudhomme got in the show. This ended Doc's nitro career. Photo from 1986. | Crashed at 1987 AHRA World Finals in Doc's final race. Qualified #8 and bumped Don Prudhomme. - Travis Liscombe (who provided the times of 6.23 at 256). |
