Notes: Qualified #5 at first 500 inch Pro Stock race at the 1982 NHRA Winternationals with an 8.016/173.74. He was the quickest of the three Mopars that qualified for the show. Unfortunately, a troubled 10.84 in the first round, lost to John Hagen's 8.45. He also had the quickest Mopar in qualifying at the NHRA Gatornationals where his 7.960/171.42 qualified #8. A first-round 8.19/164.53 beat Jerome Bradford, but he lost soon after that. An 8.00 at the IHRA Winternationals qualified him sixth, but he fouled against Lee Shepherd in round two. Hill then went to Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. It was an eight-car field and he was the second alternate with an 8.03/174.01 best. Roy continued to try and be competitive with the Mopar, but he was having a tougher and tougher time making the fields. He failed to qualify at the NHRA Springnationals. He pulled the plug on his Mopar program and showed up at Indy for the NHRA Nationals with a new Mercury Capri.

Notes: Ran 7.601/183.67 at Pomona Winters 2/86. Listed times from The Drag Racing List, December 86/January 87, Volume 1, Number 9. | WJ started his season by finishing runner-up to Frank Iaconio at the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #8 for the show with a 7.60/183.67 then got by Bob Glidden's 7.55/176 in the opening round with a 7.53/184.04. Another 7.53 at 183.87 beat Bruce Allen's 7.64/179 in round two and a 7.58/184.42 in the semifinals took out Nick Nikolis' 7.62/181. This put him into the final against Iaconio's T-Bird. Warren was definitely the favorite as Frank was stuck in the 7.6's during eliminations. But in the final, Frank improved to 7.56/185 to win over Johnson's 7.77/181.45. At the NHRA Gatornationals, he faced Glidden again in the first round, as he had only qualified #9 with a 7.61/185.26 while Glidden had taken the pole with a track record 7.49. This time WJ fouled and his 7.79/183.29 lost to Bob's 7.51/183. Atlanta was NHRA's next stop for the Southern Nationals. Warren set Low ET and Top Speed in qualifying #1 with a 7.53/184.80. Bob was right behind at 7.54/183. It seemed that these two would meet in the final and it should have worked out that was as Warren's 7.57/184 beat Allen in the semifinals, but Glidden crashed in his semifinal race while beating Butch Leal. So, in the final WJ soloed for the victory with a 16.91/51.32. He cleaned house at Baton Rouge as well for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. His 7.51/186.45 set both ends of the track record in qualifying #1, and he then ran 7.68/182.11 over Ken Dondero's 7.71/181. A round two 7.63/183.78 beat Allen's quicker 7.61/176 and in the semifinals a 7.60/180.90 aced out Joe Lepone's 7.62/178. This put him into the final against Leal. Butch pushed the tree to hard and fouled while Warren got another win with a 7.74/172.81. He almost got three in a row at the NHRA Springnationals. Warren's 7.52 (at 184.16) in qualifying #1 was a new National Trail track record. He then ran 7.60/182.22, 7.64/182.77, and 7.61/183.11 while beating Gordie Rivera, Allen, and Lepone (in that order) to reach the final. Johnson faced Leal for the title and WJ fouled away a 7.65 while Butch's 7.61 got him the win. He made a stop at Maple Grove for the Super Stock Magazine Nationals. It was an eight-car show and WJ qualified #1 with a 7.53/185.18 (Low ET and Top Speed). He beat Dondero in the first round, but was upset by Joe Clark in the semifinals when his 7.77/182.55 lost to Clark's 7.76/177.51. Low ET and Top Speed was his at the NHRA Grandnationals where his 7.51/185.18 in qualifying got him the marks. But in the first round, he slept on the line and his 7.54/185.03 lost to Rivera's 7.62/179. Another win followed that where he won the NHRA Summernationals at Englishtown. There he qualified #2 with a 7.45/186.33 behind Glidden's 7.44/186. Warren held a lead in the NHRA points standings, but Glidden had recovered from his Atlanta crash and was now a threat. Both drivers made it into the semifinals where WJ's 7.45 beat Leal while Don Coonce upset Glidden. The final saw Johnson run 7.55/184.80 for the victory over Coonce's 7.63/180. Unfortunately, that was the last win for WJ in '86 as Glidden won all the remaining races except one. Warren still ran well, but Bob had the edge at this point. At the NHRA Mile High Nationals, they qualified one, two with Bob's 7.84/175 getting the pole over WJ's 7.89/175.88 (Top Speed). Of course, the two worked their way to the final with Johnson running 8.00/174.01 over Jerry Eckman, 7.98/173.84 over Lepone in round two, and a semifinal 7.98/174.18 took out Allen's 8.02/171. In the final, his 8.03/173.41 finished runner-up to Bob's 7.92/174. He lost in the first round, at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals. There he qualified #3 with 7.66/181.81, but a first-round 7.76 lost to Stan Mizell's 7.72. Next stop was at Indianapolis for the NHRA US Nationals. Warren became the first 190 mph NHRA Pro Stock when he ran 7.50/190.07 to qualify #4. The speed was backed up for a new NHRA record. As good as his speed was, his ET was off as Glidden ran 7.37/189 to qualify first. Warren's 7.48/189.27 in the first round, beat Sam Gianino, but an off-pace 7.85/184.76 lost to Mark Pawuk's 7.64/180 in round two. It was then back to Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals. His 7.45/186.79 qualified #2 behind the T-Bird from Indiana that ran 7.41/187. But in the first round, Don Campanello's holeshot 7.58/180 beat WJ's 7.57/186.14. NHRA's next stop was at the Texas Motorplex for the Chief Nationals. Warren's 7.51/185.79 took his customary #2 spot behind Glidden's 7.45/185. In the opening round, Mizell fouled against him and Johnson advanced with a 7.62/184.61. In the second round, Don Beverley fouled and Johnson's 7.55/184.53 moved on. He drilled Lepone in the semifinals where his 7.66/183.26 beat Joe's quicker 7.58/181. This put him into the final against Glidden. Bob had the performance advantage and Warren took a chance on the tree and fouled away a 7.56/183 while Glidden picked up his 50th NHRA trophy. Warren watched as his points lead over Glidden dwindled.

Notes: Vince started the '93 season by qualifying on the "bump" at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.25/191.77. A first-round 7.29/191.08 lost to low qualifier and eventual winner Warren Johnson's 7.14/193. The next NHRA event was the Motorcraft Nationals in Arizona. Unfortunately, Khoury's 7.32/189.87 best was good for the third alternate. At the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals at Houston, Vince had a repeat of Pomona. His 7.15/192.71 qualified on the "bump," and once again, he lost to the low qualifier, Johnson, in the first round. His 7.25/191.00 lost to WJ's 7.11/194. At the NHRA Gatornationals, he made big gains, running 7.14/193.46 to qualify in the top half of the field (#8). A first-round 7.22/191.32 beat Rusty Glidden's 7.25/191, but a consistent 7.22/191.08 in round two lost to WJ's 7.14/192. Vince qualified at three of the four NHRA races, and he lost to WJ in every one. Rockingham hosted the NHRA Winston Invitational, a non-points race, and Khoury qualified #15 with a 7.20/192.22. This time he lost to someone else. In the first round, Larry Morgan got him with a 7.12/192 to his 7.19/193.17. It was then on to Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He again qualified #15, this time with a 7.23/191.69. But in the first round, he fouled against Scott Geoffrion. NHRA's sixth race of the season was the Mid-South Nationals at Memphis. For some reason, Vince missed the ballpark on this one. He could only coax a best of 7.43 out of the Cutlass and missed the show by a bunch. He rebounded nicely at Englishtown for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals just a week later(May 23). He qualified #4 at 7.13/194.17, but he was gone after the first-round when his off-pace 7.42/190.71 lost to Bruce Allen's equally bad 7.37/188. The next stop on the NHRA tour was at National Trail for the Springnationals. Once again, Vince had problems, and his 7.31/190.15 best was good for the sixth alternate.

Notes: Mark was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where his 7.16/192.26 qualified #14. He fouled against Kurt Johnson in the first round, with a 7.23/190.26. He also qualified #14 at the NHRA Arizona Nationals with a 7.20/192.34. This time he lost to Warren Johnson in the opening round. Osborne qualified much better at Houston for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals, where his 7.12/192.96 got him the #9 spot in the field. He still lost in the first round, this time to Mark Pawuk. At the next NHRA event, the Gatornationals, he was on the "bump" with a 7.20/192.10. Another 7.20 at 191.61 in the first round, lost to low qualifier Warren Johnson's 7.12/195. Mark was on the "bump" spot again at Rockingham for NHRA's Invitational race with a 7.16/193.59, and once again, WJ stopped him in the first round. This time Mark's 7.22/191.93 fell to Warren's 7.08/195. Atlanta was the next stop of the NHRA tour for the Southern Nationals, and for the first time this season, Mark failed to qualify. His best of 7.20/192.43 was good for the third alternate. He recovered from that by qualifying in the top half of the field at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. There, his 7.18/192.34 qualified #6. He also got his first-round win of the year when Rickie Smith fouled against him. Mark advanced with a 7.17/192.18. But another 7.17 at 192.51 in the second round wasn't enough to stop Scott Geoffrion's 7.15/193.

Notes: Steve qualified #10 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.15/192.59. He had a close race with Jim Yates in round one, that he lost. Both cars ran 7.21 (Schmidt at 190.71). At the NHRA Quality Care Nationals in Arizona, a 7.20/191.40 qualified #13, but a 7.26/189.67 in the first round, lost to Kurt Johnson's 7.18/192. Houston was NHRA's next stop for the Slick 50 Nationals. Steve qualified #14 at 7.14/192.26, but he lost to Warren Johnson in the first round. He continued to have the first-round blues at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, and although he qualified well with a 7.19/192.92 (#13), he lost in the first round, when he slowed to a 7.26/190.63 that finished second best to Yates' 7.18/192. His next stop was at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. Schmidt qualified #13 with a 7.14/193.09, but he again lost in round one. This time Mark Pawuk's 7.15/191 beat his 7.17/192.96. He got his first NHRA round win at Atlanta for the Southern Nationals. He qualified #9 with a 7.15/194.00 and a first-round 7.16/193.50 beat Pawuk's close 7.17/193. Unfortunately, a second-round 7.20/192.92 lost to WJ's 7.12/195. Memphis was the next stop for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. Steve got his best qualifying effort of the year with a 7.17/192.84 for the #4 spot in the field. In the first round, he got anxious and fouled against Lewis Worden. Rick Howard photo from 1994 NHRA Oldsmobile Springnats, Columbus. Qualified 5th at 7.22/191.32. He lost to David Rampy in round one. The best national event times were 7.080 at the World Finals and 194.76 at Ennis. He came close to that several other times. Steve also ran 7.049/197.70 in testing.

Notes: Allen was in Connecticut in April for an eight-car show. In the first round, his 9.50 beat Bobby Lewis, but in the semifinal, his off-pace 10.67 lost to eventual winner Richie Zul's 9.43. He was at Englishtown on May 6 for the NHRA Division One opener. An opening round 9.43/145.63 beat Bill Lawton's 9.47/143 but despite improving to 9.37/147 in the semifinal, he lost to Paul Blevins' 9.31/148. Shortly after that (May 20), he won the second NHRA Division One race held at Cayuga, Ontario. He set Low ET there at 9.41, and in the final, his 9.48/142.18 beat Ron Hutter's slightly quicker 9.47/142. Early in June, Ray was at Maple Grove for the USRT event. It was a sixteen-car field, and in round one, he fouled against Ken Dondero. He was the third alternate at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals with a 9.55. Shortly after that, he was at Englishtown for an eight-car show. All cars were to make three runs. In Allen's first race, his 9.27/147.78 lost to Herb McCandless' 9.16/149. He also lost his second race, where a 9.30/147.05 fell to Mike Fons' 9.17/135. In his last race, he scored a 9.20/147.78, beating Frank Russo's 9.38/149. He was not a regular on the circuit, but rain postponed the race from a Wednesday to Thursday. Three cars were unable to stay the extra day, so Allen filled in for one. He lost in the first round, to Ken Dondero, who was driving one of "Dyno Don" Nicholson's Pinto's. But Ray later came back out to run in a consolation race where he beat Dave Kanners' 9.34/143 with a 9.31/145.86. Ray qualified #25 at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals with a 9.41. He beat Sonny Bryant in the opening round of eliminations, and in round two, his 9.31 beat Bobby Yowell's quicker, 9.29. But in round three, his 9.30 fell to Melvin Yow's 9.14. Ray ran 9.401/135.39 for the 32nd qualifying spot at NHRA Indianapolis on 9/01/73. He got into the field as the defending champion.
