Notes: First 280 mph run in history. Also 5.48 at 273.14 at Ennis All Stars 4/87 (no records set at that event). Set national record at 270.43 at 87 Summernationals. Then at Indy, ran 278.89, but did not back it up. However, did run 274.64, which the 278.89 backed up for the record. Finally, reset national record at 280.72 at Chief Nats. Ran 279.93 at Ennis 10/87 to back up record. Set ET record at 5.443 at Chief Nats (but ran 5.405 in qualifying). Duplicated 280.72 at World Finals (at 5.419). Photo from Indy 1987. | Mike was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals where he qualified #3 with a career best (to this point) 5.56/266.42. In the first round, he broke a blower pulley and slowed to 6.50/143.35 in a loss to Dale Pulde's 5.80/246. |

Notes: Jim started the season at Pomona, where he qualified #11 with a 5.29/282.48. Another 5.29 at 288.27 advanced in round one, when his opponent, Ray Higley, broke. In round two, an off pace of 5.61/225.16 lost to Al Hofmann's 5.38/281. Epler qualified #2 at the NHRA Arizona Nationals with a 5.19/290.97 behind Hofmann's 5.14. In the opening round of eliminations, his 5.26/288.73 beat Dean Skuza's 5.38/272. In the second round, Jack Wyatt fouled against him, and Jim's 5.81/180.46 advanced. He lost to Tom Hoover in the semifinal. Houston was the next stop on the NHRA tour for the Slick 50 Nationals. Jim's 5.32/280.51 "only" qualified #11. He had a close race in the opening round that saw his 5.31/289.85 beat Tony Pedregon's 5.32/282, but he lost to the eventual winner Hofmann, in round two. The NHRA Gatornationals was not a memorable outing for Epler. He only qualified #15 with a 5.35/285.26, and he lost to Skuza in round one. He did not race at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational, but he was at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals held in mid-April. His 5.31/286.98 qualified #9, and in the first round, he smoked the tires and lost to Chuck Etchells. Shortly after that, he was at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. There he ran 5.38/287.90 to qualify #11. An easy 6.34/150.40 advanced in round one, when Whit Bazemore got out of shape and shut down, but in round two, his 5.31/288.36 fell to Etchells' 5.20/293. |

Notes: 1975 was a turning point for the Frantic Ford team as Jim Fox partnered with Freddy Frey. Media exposure for the Frantic Ford was tremendous this year, and the new machine, built by Walt Weney's S&W Chassis Shop in Spring City, PA, was destined for even greater exposure. Drag Times Newspaper featured the Frantic Ford on their cover in November. National Dragster, Drag News, Motorsports Weekly, and Drag World devoted considerable editorial and photographic coverage to the car during the year. Super Stock & Drag Illustrated Magazine assigned several pages of editorial feature space to the team in 1975. Second fastest car at the 75 NHRA Summernationals, where they qualified seventh with a 6.430/230.76 pass. Dodger Glenn was at Englishtown's Spring Funny Car Championships in April. Things did not go so well for the team, as the performance was off. An opening round 8.02/215.31 beat Harlan Thompson in the "Fireball Vega" when both smoked the tires, but, in the semifinals, Dodger again blew the tires off of it, and he lost to Tom Prock in the "Custom Body" car. He came back for a consolation race against Paul Smith, but his 7.57/188.28 lost to Smith's 6.58/193. Better things were ahead for the "Frantic Ford" team. At Maple Grove's Spring Funny Car Championships, Dodger set Low ET at 6.45, and he went on to win a strange final with Jimmy King. Jimmy lost a clutch and ran 12.97, while Glenn broke a rear end and took the win with a 12.52. He also set Low ET at the York Funny Car Nationals with a 6.62. He had run that number in the first round at 224 while beating King, and he beat Pete Hill in the semifinals to go up against Kenny Safford in the final. Unfortunately, the rain ended the race before the final could be run. The team was back at Maple Grove for the fifth annual Dutch Classic. A piston-burning 6.78/163.33 beat Prock in the opening round, but they could not repair it in time for a semifinal meeting with Tommy Grove. On May 18, Lebanon Valley hosted its Ridgerunner Funny Car Classic. Glenn ran 6.90/192.30 in the first round but lost to Hill's 6.84/175. Connecticut held its Memorial Day Funny Car Championships, and the "Frantic Ford" team was there. Eight cars competed, with all making three runs. It was not a good day for Glenn. He crossed the centerline in his first race, and in his second, he got way out of shape and shut off to a 7.19/140 loss to Thompson's 6.91. In his third race, the Mustang II again got out of shape, and he clicked it off against Hill. More problems followed the team at the New England Spring Funny Car Championships. The track wasn't the best, as Dodger's 9.59/142 qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field. That was still better than Grove, "Jungle Jim" Liberman, and Kosty Ivanof, who all failed to qualify. But in the first round, Glenn got a solo when Hill lost a blower belt on his burnout. Dodger went for his single, but his throttle hung open. He smoked the pistons and ran Top Speed at 213.77 but could not return for his semifinal race against Arne Swensen. Back again at Maple Grove for the NHRA Division 1 race on June 21, Glenn qualified #2 in the eight-car show with a 6.63 behind Don Prudhomme's 6.53. He lost early in eliminations. Dodger was at Maple Grove's Fourth of July Funny Car race. While he didn't reach the final, he set Top Speed at 209.79. As mentioned, he qualified #7 at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. Glenn beat Pat Foster in round one before shutting down to an 8.99/97.19 loss to Ivanof's 6.29/218 in round two. |

Notes: Goeske was in Portland in July for the Coca-Cola Championships. It was a 32-car show, and his 6.88/146 beat Chuck Tiller in the first round. In round two, he got a solo when Gary Bolger's car failed to fire, and Fred advanced with a 6.64. But in round three, his Vega broke and slowed to a 22.12-second loss to Gordon Mineo's 6.74. Fred was in New England in October for its Fall Funny Car Championships. He smoked the tires against Bill Leavitt in the first round and shut off to 7.30/180. After losing, he came back out and made two passes for the fans, a 6.64/215.82 and 6.49/216.86. Iron block 426. 1974 photo. |

Notes: Head started his season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #12 with a 5.67/252.38, and he won his opening round race against Tripp Shumake, who lost a blower and crossed the centerline. His opponent, Brad Tuttle, smoked the tires in round two, and Jim's 5.66/258.76 advanced. Mark Oswald smoked the tires in the "Candies and Hughes" car in the semifinal, and Head ran 7.66/123.59 to go into the final. There he would face Dale Pulde. Dale had been running 5.4s, so it looked like he was in trouble. It turned out that both smoked the tires, and Pulde recovered first to a 6.02/223 to take the victory over Jim's 6.38/184.95. He was at Gainesville in March for the NHRA Gatornationals. His 5.70/248.48 qualified #13, and in round one, he beat Johnny West, who was driving the "Hawaiian."Both had problems, and Jim's 7.29/138.29 beat West's 9.67/87. But his 8.78/97.91 lost to Tom Hoover's 6.06/218 in round two. He then raced at the IHRA Texas Nationals, where he qualified #11 with a 5.58/236.53. Unfortunately, he lost in the first round. He qualified #5 at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, but he windowed a block while running 5.65/253.37 in defeating Darrell Amberson in the first round. After changing the engine, he smoked the tires against John Force in round two. The following week, he was at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. It was an eight-car field, and his 5.59/254.95 qualified #3. Amberson broke against him in round one, and Jim advanced with a 5.98/245.23. In the semi-final, Oswald fouled, and Jim ran 5.72/248.61. In the final, he went up against low qualifier Ed McCulloch, and Head fouled. He shut down to 6.33/175.00 while Ed ran 5.68/261 for the victory. Jim showed up using a new high-gear only, AFT 5-stage clutch at Memphis. It seemed to pay off as he ran 5.55/264.00 to qualify second to John Force's similar,5.55/263. In the first round, Head's 5.68/253.02 beat West's 5.86/247. In round two, he used a 5.71/255.02 to defeat R.C.Sherman's 5.82/259. He and Oswald had a close race in the semi-final that saw Mark's 5.62/268 beat his 5.65/264.70. Still, Head was now up to fourth in NHRA points with the semi-final finish. Photo from Columbus 1988. Jim started running top fuel beginning at Indy in 1988 and continued in that class in 1989. The Memphis and Columbus times were his best of the year, but Jim was a solid qualifier in the 5.50s and 5.60s and nearly reset his bests at Seattle with a 5.565/267.06 pass. |

Notes: Segrini was driving Kosty's car from at least March through June 1973. He was at Lakeland on March 4 for the IHRA Winternationals. Al qualified #11, and in the opening round of eliminations, his 7.13/193.53 lost to eventual winner Pat Foster's 6.83/205 in the Barry Setzer Vega. He then went to Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where his 6.58/225.00 qualified #11. The car lost fire on the line in the first round, advancing Ed McCulloch. Al was at Englishtown in April for an eight-car show. A first-round 6.68/219.51 beat Tom Prock's 7.08/181 in the "Custom Body" car, but he had trouble keeping the front wheels on the ground in the semifinals and lost to eventual winner "Jungle Jim" Liberman. He was really running well at the second NHRA Division 3 race at National Trail. He only qualified #6 in the eight-car field, but his 6.76 in the first round, beat #2 qualifier Dale Emery driving the "Jeg's" Camaro. That time was good enough for Low ET, but he stepped it up even further in the semifinals when he tied the track ET record with a 6.65 at 218.97 (Top Speed) while beating Bill Leavitt. Unfortunately, he had troubles in the final and lost to Russell Long, driving Charlie Proite's Charger. Al was at Connecticut for its 13th annual Memorial Day Championships. He set Low ET at 6.60 and finished runner-up to Leavitt. He failed to qualify at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals (times not reported). The following weekend (June 17), he was at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals, where he reached the second round before he lost to Al Hanna in the "Eastern Raider." On July 4, he was at Englishtown for an eight-car show. He won his first-round race but lost to Clare Sanders driving the "Ramchargers" car in the semifinals. |

Notes: Confirmed 6.159/236.22 at 78 NHRA Winternationals (qualified #2). Also Low ET and Top Speed for Funny Cars at 6.41/220.04 at the 1978 Jet, Rocket, Wheelstanding, and Funny Car Nationals at Union Grove. Ran 6.35/221 at New England Funny Car Nationals. | Ivo started the season by winning the Sacramento New Year's Day Funny Car race. He stopped Gary Burgin in the final. As mentioned, Ivo qualified #2 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He made it to the final by beating Dave Hough in the "Super Shops" Arrow with a 6.38/220 to Dave's 6.47/216. A 6.48/226 beat Denny Savage and a semifinal 6.73/225 got around Tom Prock in the "Detroit Tiger" car. Unfortunately, Tommy broke in the final and Don Prudhomme soloed for the win. Did Tommy go 240 somewhere this year? |

Notes: Photo from Indy 1991. | Frank was at Englishtown in July for the NHRA Summernationals. His 5.44/249.86 qualified #11. Unfortunately, he had problems and was unable to run in eliminations. The first alternate, Jerry Caminito, took his place in the field. He then went to Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. There a 5.82/252.24 qualified #10. But he smoked the tires and shut off in the first round, losing to Whit Bazemore's 5.90. Kramberger had problems during qualifying at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals. He blew a motor; oil got under the tires and smacked the wall. He was OK, and the damage was not too severe. He had earlier run 5.71/252.59, which was good for the fifth alternate. He qualified on the "bump" at Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals with a 5.55/265.40. But he lost to eventual winner Jim White driving the "Hawaiian" in the opening round. Frank was the first alternate at Topeka for the NHRA Heartland Nationals with a 5.60/252.45. He made the show at the NHRA Chief Nationals, where his 5.53/264.86 held down the "bump.” But a first-round 5.82/190.83 lost to White's 5.28/286. He did not race at Pomona for the NHRA World Finals. |
