Notes: Photo from 1981. Number 2 in IHRA 1982. | Sox opened the season by qualifying #1 at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals with 7.76/178.21 IHRA records. He beat Harold Robinson, a fouling Pat Musi with a 7.88, and a semifinal 7.86 beat Frank Cappadoro. A final round 7.90/176 gave Sox his 13th career IHRA victory over a fouling Harold Denton. In April, he was scheduled to run a best of three match race against Joe Lepone at Budds Creek, but he lost a motor in their first race and had to withdraw. He ran just as well at IHRA's second event of the year, the Pro-Am Nationals at Rockingham. Once again he qualified #1 with a 7.75/177.16 (Low ET and Top Speed), but in round two he lost to Rickie Smith. On June 20 at Norwalk for the IHRA World Nationals, Ronnie qualified #3 with a 7.86. He made it to the final, but his 7.87/175 was runner-up to Smith's 7.76/179. He won the IHRA Northern Nationals in July, stopping Warren Johnson in the final. Sox was the 8th member of the Holley Seven-Second club with his 7.79 at Rockingham 5/82. |

Notes: Darrell attempted to qualify at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Despite running a record 7.474/187.46 for Mopar doorslammers, he was nowhere close to making the show, even if it had been a 32 car field. Darrell also ran the following NHRA events with the following best times: Atlanta, 7.603/183.44, Memphis, 7.540/185.98, Baton Rouge, 7.522/185.72, Columbus, 7.562/184.19, Englishtown, 7.565/184.76, Brainerd, 7.598/182.96, Indy, 197.550/183.74, Reading, 7.448/186.76, Baytown, 7.358/187.22 (#13 qualifier and first-round loss to Bruce Allen, 7.47/185 to 8.43/120), Phoenix, 7.547/184.09, and Pomona Finals, 7.492/184.76. All were DNQ efforts except for Houston, but the team was getting closer to qualifying by the end of the year. Darrell did qualify for the Pomona Winters, but that was in the team's Camaro. |

Notes: In the first race with the new car, Gene dropped three tenths. Joe Amato logged the first 5.0-second run with a 5.09, 287.72 (the best speed ever), but Gene bettered it on the last run of the day with a 5.089 at just 267.06 mph. Notes: Dave had an interesting day on August 30 at Norwalk for the IHRA World Nationals. He was on the "bump" in qualifying with a best of 6.46/181.41. This set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Bob Newberry. Dave got a great "leave" and his 6.09/231.30 beat Newberry's quicker 6.03/229. In the second round, he picked up to 5.98/234.31 (Top Speed) to beat Rickie Bowie's 6.27/221. A 5.97/233.64 in the semifinals beat Marc White's 6.14/224 and moved him into the final against Scott Weis. Scott fouled and Sebring ran 5.98/233.76 for the victory. He went to Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals where he qualified #6 with a 6.01/233.58. He beat Herb Rogers in the opening round with a 6.02/234.55, but a second round 6.05/233.52 lost to Tony Bartone's 5.97/233. Another win came on October 11 at Bristol for the IHRA Fallnationals. Dave qualified #2 with a 6.12/231.95. In the first round, he only needed a 14.45/51.82 to advance when Terry Mullins fouled. He set Low ET of the meet in round two where his 6.11/230.53 beat Mark Thomas' 6.23/224. Another 6.11/230.06 in the semifinals stopped Jim Bailey's 6.14/227. In the final, Todd Paton smoked the tires and Dave's 6.18/225.50 got the win. |

Notes: Al Segrini debuted Phil Castronovo's new Arrow on June 21 at Englishtown during the Crazy Eddie Night of Thrills race. Things didn't go so well as the car broke on its burnout preparing to race Gary Burgin. He was at Empire Dragway in July for the NED Gold Cup Championships race. It was an eight-car field and his opening round 6.91/174 lost to Roy Harris's 6.71/221. He was back at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals where his 6.190/231.95 qualified #10. Segrini beat Billy Meyer in the first round, before losing to eventual winner Denny Savage in round two. | Also ran 6.21/227.84 at Englishtown on 7/16/78. The 6.19/231.95 were Al's best NHRA times of the 1978 season. |
