Notes: Though dogged for several years in the mid-Sixties by the fuel roadster of Chicago's Dennison-Arlasky-Knox, Gabby Bleeker and his red (then black) Austin coupe pretty much carried the flag for Midwest fuel altered fans throughout the decade. Author Don Montgomery in "Those Wild Fuel Altereds" reports that Bleeker switched to fuel in 1961. - RT; On May 17 at Cordova, he set a strip record at 10.64 at 135.10 mph. At Cordova's World Series of Drag Racing event on Aug. 23, he won $100 for his A/A win. He set a world record of 134.28 mph at 11.25. Photo: Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Sep. 6, 1959 - MB |
