Notes: On May 10, Neil was at Maple Grove for the Dutch Classic. The race featured a best-of-three-match race between him and Bobby Hilton driving the "Jim and Allison Lee" car. Mahr won the first race with a 6.13/232.55 when Hilton smoked the tires. In the second race, they both went up in smoke, and Bobby evened up the score. In the final race, Neil ran 6.28/226.13 to win the match over Hilton's 6.62/212. Neil was in New England for the NHRA Division 1 final on August 17. He qualified #2 for the eight-car field with a 5.92/229.00. In the opening round, opponent Kerry Sweigart had problems on the line and shut down. Mahr soloed for the win with a 6.07/226.70. But an off-pace 6.20/224.43 in the semifinal lost to Jeb Allen's 5.91/239. At Indianapolis for the NHRA US Nationals, his 5.97/230.17 qualified #20. An opening round 6.43/223.88 did him no good against Richard Tharp's 6.02/244 in the "Candies and Hughes" car. |

Notes: Eleventh member of the Slick 50 300 MPH Club on October 3/1993, with a 302.41 at Topeka, Kan. ET and speed confirmed by Jim Hawkins' DragStats. Set national record at 4.784 (low qualifier) at 93 Winternationals. Low qualifier at 4.789 at 93 Topeka Fall. Ran 4.782 at World Finals. | Cory had a great season in '93. Although things didn't look so well at Firebird Raceway's Test and Tune event in January Cory and crew chief, Jimmy Prock had their new Brad Hadman built car there, but were never able to get in a full run. He made two easy check-out passes with a 7.13/80.19 best, but the next three runs he made had the car either smoke the tires or go into hard tire shake. The good news was, of all the Top Fuel cars there, McClenathan had the best 60 foot times at .88. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, he qualified #1 with a 4.78/296.93. The ET was a new NHRA record, and he went on to beat Shelly Anderson in the first round, with a 4.82/295.17. Another strong run of 4.85/292.30 was run in round two against Tommy Johnson Jr., but it was wasted with a red light. He qualified on the pole for the next NHRA race as well, the Motorcraft Nationals where he ran 4.82/297.71 to get the spot. McClenathan beat Bobby Baldwin in the first round, with a 4.95/293.35, but once again he fouled in round two giving Jim Head an easy 6.78/219 run into the semifinals. At the Slick 50 Nationals at Houston, everyone was running career-best times while Prock was having trouble getting Cory down the track. He eventually made the field with a 4.95/287.71 that held for the "bump spot." In round one he faced low qualifier Ed McCulloch and Cory fouled. After fouling in three straight races Cory was determined not to do it again at the Gatornationals so after going out and qualifying #1 with a 4.78 (Low ET) at 291.73, he beat Mike Brotherton in the first round, with a 4.90/291.73. In round two he faced Mike Dunn in Darrell Gwynn's car and while he didn't foul, Prock put too much power into it, and he smoked the tires and lost. It was either on the pole or on the "bump spot" for the team as at the Winston Invitational they qualified on the "bump" in the eight-car field with a 4.97/287.17. Unfortunately, on that qualifier, he crashed at the top end totaling the car and Cory received third degree burns on his forehead and second degree burns to his hands. Obviously, the team was unable to make the Southern Nationals at Atlanta, but they were back and ready at Memphis for the Mid-South Nationals. Cory qualified #6 with a 4.96/294.98. An off pace 5.36/280.89 beat Anderson in round one, and in round two, his 4.93/294.40 beat Johnson Jr's 4.95/291. In the semifinals, he faced Joe Amato, and he smoked the tires and lost. The Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown was NHRA's next stop. Cory qualified #5 with a 4.83/292.77. |

Notes: Jim lost to Connie Kalitta in the first round, at the Bakersfield March Meet. He was at Fremont in April for the NHRA Division 6 race. He qualified #8 with a 6.10/231 and a 6.09/228.42 beat Joe Ortega's 6.19/231 in the first round. But in round two he had problems and shut off to 11.86 in a loss to Gary Ritter's 6.09/229. He qualified #23 at Indianapolis for the NHRA US Nationals with a 5.98/231.36, but a 6.15/229.00 in the first round, lost to Gary Beck's 6.01/239. |

Notes: Ran 5.98 at Indy US Nationals 9/79. | Gary qualified #11 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 6.04. He beat Jeb Allen in the first round, before losing to Rob Bruins in round two. Gary ran his first ever "5" while qualifying for the Bakersfield March Meet. His 5.89 qualified #3 in the sixteen-car field and he lasted until the semifinals of competition. At the second NHRA Division 7 race, a 5.99/227.27 qualified him third in the eight-car field and he finished runner-up to Doug Kerhulas. At the fourth Division 7 race a 6.95 in the opening round beat a tire smoking Gary Ritter, but Ormsby's car broke in the semifinal, handing eventual winner Dave Uyehara, an easy run into the final. Gary failed to qualify at the NHRA Mile High Nationals. At Indy, there were over 60 cars attempting to qualify for the 32 car field and Ormsby ran 5.98/239.36 to qualify #23. He lost to Don Garlits in the first round. At the NHRA Fallnationals at Seattle, a 5.95/216.34 qualified #8 and an off pace 6.16/241.28 in the first round, lost to Johnny Abbott's 5.97/241. The season ended on a low note as he failed to qualify for the NHRA World Finals. |

Notes: Raced 74/78, died 78. 6.14/238.72 Beeline Dragway Phoenix Winter Classic | Jim started his season at Ontario Motor Speedway's New Year's Day race. He qualified #8 in the sixteen-car field with a 6.50, but it took its toll on the motor, and he was unable to run eliminations. He then went to Irwindale for the Grand Premiere event. It was another sixteen-car field, and he just got in on the "bump" with his 6.59/160. In the opening round, his competition, Ken Moitoza, broke on the burnout, so Jim ran an easy solo to advance. In round two, he smoked the tires and lost to Larry Dixon's 5.99/226. His next race was the AHRA Winternationals at Tucson. A great 6.21 qualified #4, and in round one, his 6.37 beat Bill Pryor's 6.48. In round two, John Wiebe went up in smoke against him, and Plummer's 6.27/228.42 advanced. But an off-pace 6.67/200.00 lost to the eventual winner Frank Bradley's 6.29/211 in the semifinals. He continued to run well at Beeline for the Phoenix Winter Classic. His 6.13/238.72 qualified #9. He faced low qualifier James Warren in the first round, and dialed in too much power as he smoked the tires hard coming off the line and then shut off to 24.15 in a loss to Warren's 5.97/239. He failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where his 6.05/241.28 just missed making the 6.04 "bump." |

Notes: Del qualified for his first-ever TF race at the NHRA California Nationals. His 5.08/286.44 got him the #14 spot in the field. In the opening round, Worsham's 5.09/274.97 lost to Scott Kalitta's 5.01/283. He then made the trip to Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals. There a 5.05/287.08 qualified #15. Once again, Kalitta stopped him in the first round. He broke into the "4's" at Brainerd, where Del ran 4.99/292.68 to qualify #8. That was ahead of some pretty heavy hitters, including Ed McCulloch, Don Prudhomme, Mike Dunn, and Joe Amato, among others. He still failed to get his first-round win in TF competition when he smoked the tires against Tommy Johnson Jr in the first round. He opened a few more eyes at Indy, where his 4.92/287.90 qualified #5 for the NHRA U.S. Nationals. Even better, he got his first-round win with a 5.00/284.00 over Mike Brotherton. He fouled away another 5.00 at 279.15 in round two against Kenny Bernstein. Things did not go well at Maple Grove, where his 5.32/223.43 best (third alternate) failed to qualify for the NHRA Keystone Nationals. The tenth member of the Slick 50 300 MPH Club on October 3, 1993, with a 300.20 at Topeka, Kan. |
