Notes: Car was nearing completion when the 1967 NHRA rulebook legalized tube frames for gas classes; Crandall & Sandberg's 2x3 tube rectangular tube chassis was one of the first in the gas classes. Car turned 9.80 on first pass (1969) with fill-in driver Al Tschida. Followed up with an overall win at the Rockford (Ill.) Dragways Gas Coupe Nationals, topping a 64-car field. Regular owner/driver Bruce Crandall then piloted car to A/G class win at the 1969 NHRA Nationals at Indy. Photo is from that event. - RT |
