Notes: At the end of 1976, the Patrol was sold to Fred Goeske, who bought it after crashing his own car in Portland. Tom Anderson drove it while Fred was on the mend. The car did not race at any NHRA national events in 1976 with either driver. |

Notes: A 5/10/74 National Dragster says this car ran 7.50s in 1969. Confirmed times are listed. Fiberglass Trends body. Dale qualified #8 out of forty cars attempting to make sixteen spots with a 7.89 at Irwindale's New Year's Day race. But in the first round, the car was ailing. He lost to a 10.38 by Clyde Morgan. At Beeline in Jan for the AHRA Winternationals, he lost to Dick Harrell's 7.83 in the first round. Thirty-five cars showed to do battle for eight spots at the second OCIR All-Pro on February 9, and Armstrong's 7.69/187.88 qualified #5, but again he lost early. Another first-round loss came on February 22 at Lions when Randy Walls beat him. A month later, on March 22, he failed to qualify at Lions when 22 cars showed for the eight spots. On April 26, he qualified for a sixteen-car show at Irwindale, but a first-round 8.20/191 by Ed Lenarth stopped his 8.29/170.77. On May 3 at OCIR's second annual Manufacturer's Funny Car Open, Gas Ronda's 8.29/176 beat Dale in his first race, and an 8.22/182.18 won his second race when Gordon Mineo fouled away a 7.92/182. He was at Lions for an eight-car show on May 24, and his 7.85 qualified on the "bump." This was pretty good, considering 19 cars were attempting to qualify. He slowed to an 8.11/183.67 loss to eventual winner Dave Beebe in the first round. After the loss, he came back out to race Hank Clark in the Rebel SST in a consolation race. He beat the AMC with an 8.46/179.28. On June 8 at Seattle for the Travelon's Fuel Championships, he again lost in the first round, to Mike Miller's 8.17. |

Notes: Beautiful Car. Debuted in 64 as a blown gas Fiat altered with chassis built by Barker himself. In 66, the Fiat shell was replaced with a Mustang shell and car began running as a flopper in local shows. Initially ran direct drive for Chrisman like launches. Blown 427 Wedge eventually ran mid 8's at 170 plus. Car won Comp Eliminator at 67 HRM Championships. Car was sold to Aussie racer in late 68, but he ran it with 392. Notes: LOW and mean. The OCIR 6.01 made Beadle the second quickest Funny Car in the sport after Prudhomme's 5.98 at Ontario 1975 and 5.97 at Indy 1976. | Beadle started the season at the OCIR Opener in January. The car ran great, hitting 6.18/228 in the first round, over Tommy Ivo and a semifinal 6.13 to advance to the final. There he beat Ed McCulloch with his track record 6.01 at 234.37. It was an excellent start to the year. He then went to Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals, where he qualified #12 with a 7.61. The track was terrible, and Tom Hoover qualified #1 with a 6.73. But the "Blue Max" crew got "her tuned up" in the first round, where his 6.52/223.88 beat Jim West. Beadle set Low ET in round two with a 6.48 to beat Steve Harris, but in the semifinals, the rear-end let go, and Beadle lost to eventual winner John Collins. Then it was off to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where a 6.18/232.55 qualified #2 behind Don Prudhomme's 6.14. He beat Tom Prock in the first round, with a 6.15/231.95, and a round two 6.27 beat Hoover's quicker 6.19. Another good light in the semifinals made his 6.41 a winner over Gordie Bonin's 6.40. This put Beadle into the final against Prudhomme. It looked like the "Blue Max" faltered in the final, but it was really just the "Snake" running a great 6.03/247 for the win while Beadle had to settle for the runner-up spot. At the NHRA Gatornationals, Raymond ran 6.31 to qualify #3. He improved to 6.28/228 on a second-round solo when Al Bergler broke, but he lost to Bonin in the semifinals. The team did not run the IHRA Winternationals, and while the "Max" did not reach the finals at the IHRA Dixie Nationals, Beadle was the low qualifier. Raymond was also the low qualifier at the AHRA Springnationals with a 6.57/218.44. He beat Jim White and Tom Hovland before losing to Billy Graham in the semifinals. The team was at Union Grove for the Drag Racing Olympics race on May 29 and 30. The show was run with 22 cars running the first-round, with the four lowest ET's advancing into the semifinals. Beadle's 6.33 was good enough to advance, but he lost to McEwen in the semis. The following day (May 30), they did it again, but the "Max" failed to qualify for the semifinals this time. Surprisingly, they skipped running the NHRA Cajun Nationals in favor of the AHRA Gateway Nationals in St. Louis, as the races were run on the same weekend (June 5). It was an eight-car field, and Beadle qualified on the "bump" with a 6.59/220.59. But the car came alive during eliminations, running 6.35/229.01 in the first round, to beat Graham and a 6.46/210.78 over Prock's 6.53/213 in the semifinals. He faced Collins in the finals, and Raymond's 6.53/223.52 got the victory over John's tire-smoking 7.13/181. At Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals, he qualified #11 and lost to Prudhomme in the first round. Beadle won the second PDA race held at Fremont on June 23. There he stopped John Lombardo in the final. He then won the third NHRA Division 4 race at Green Valley. He qualified #2 with a 6.31 and a final round 6.43/191 beat Gordon Mineo's off-pace 7.95/103. The team skipped the NHRA Summernationals at Englishtown as the weekend before the team used up three aluminum engines. The team got things sorted out, and they ended the month of July by winning Portland's 32 car show on the 31st. Beadle had set Low ET, and in the final, his 6.35 beat Mike Miller's 6.39. Beadle could not get the "Max" to run a number at Firebird Raceway for the Night Fire 500 race. He smoked the tires and shut off in both his races losing to Bonin and Hank Johnson. A week later (August 19), the car ran right as Beadle won the Division 6 final at Portland. He beat Rich Rogers, driving the "Green Elephant" in the opening round with a 6.43/211.76. A semifinal 6.39/209.30 beat Jim Dunn, and he faced the Low ET car of Bonin in the final. Beadle got out first, and his 6.34/227.84 hung on to win over Bonin's slightly quicker 6.33/225. He then went to Spokane for the AHRA World Finals. Beadle qualified #3 in the eight-car field and then proceeded to run 6.45/212.26 over Bob Pickett and a motor-saving 7.29/141.06 solo when Bonin failed to hear the call for the semifinals. He faced Tom Hoover in the final, and Beadle's 6.53/214.73 finished runner-up to Hoover's 6.40/215. After the team's northern swing, they returned to Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, where a 6.22/226.13 qualified a disappointing #14. A first-round 6.20/228 by Tom McEwen sent the 6.45/200.44 of Beadle packing for home. |

Notes: Beadle was running with Ford sponsorship for 1982, which included a new EXP body on his car. He started the season by qualifying third at the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.99/228.42. He ran as well as a 5.97/244.56 in his semifinal win over Frank Hawley's quicker 5.96/239. In the final, he met Al Segrini where his 6.32/226.13 fell to Al's 6.26/238.09. A 5.91/243.90 (Top Speed) qualified #1 at the Gatornationals, but in the first round, he met Segrini again and this time Beadle got out of shape and hit the guardrail. The car ended up flipping upside down and slid into the opposite guardrail before coming to a halt. He was OK, but the EXP body was totaled. At the IHRA Winternationals at Darlington, the team showed up with last year's Omni body and qualified #1 with a 6.02 (Low ET), but he lost in the first round. He then went to Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals on April 25 where a 5.98/235.60 qualified third. A first-round 5.88/238 beat Gary Burgin and a 5.93/240 beat Paul Smith in the semifinals. In the final, he reset the NHRA record to a 5.87 with a speed of 243.24 to win the race over Hawley. On May 2 he went to Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am where a track record 5.86 led qualifying. Unfortunately, he got out of shape in the first round, and lost to John Pott. He followed that race up with a win at the NHRA Cajun Nationals beating Don Prudhomme in the final with a 6.08/239.36 over Don's 6.13/247.25. He qualified second with a 6.00. Another win came at the IHRA Springnationals where he set Low ET (6.00) and beat Billy Meyer in the final. He then ran at the NHRA Springnationals on June 13 where a 5.98/242.58 qualified third, but in the first round, he smoked all eight pistons and lost to Segrini. A week later at Norwalk for the IHRA World Nationals, Beadle set a 5.88 track record in qualifying and ran another 5.88 in his first-round win over John Pott. In the semifinals, Dale Pulde's 6.29 beat Beadle's 6.31. Raymond won the US Funny Car Championships at Brainerd on June 27. He beat Doc Halladay and Glenn Mikres before stopping Burgin in the final. He qualified eighth with a 6.48/226.70 in the eight-car field at the NHRA Mile High Nationals. A first-round 6.51/222 beat Tom Anderson's 6.58 and a 6.25/226.69 beat Craig Epperly's quicker 6.19/230.17 in the semifinal. In the final he met Meyer who had set Low ET and Top Speed (6.12/240), but he shut down to a 6.85/149.75 and had to settle for runner-up. A 6.00 qualified second at the IHRA Summernationals, but he lost to Pott in the first round. Another first-round loss followed at the NHRA Grandnationals on July 4 where he qualified eighth again with a 6.15/242.24 in the eight-car show, but he had a rear end break on his burnout for his race against Prudhomme. A 5.93/249.30 qualified second at the NHRA Summernationals, but he lost to Prudhomme in round two. He qualified second again with a 5.94/236.22 at the PHR Championships in August at Martin, Michigan, and ran a first-round 5.97 over Tim Grose. A semifinal 6.07 beat Ken Veney's quicker 6.03. In the final, a 6.02/248.61 (Top Speed) lost to Hawley's 6.01/236.22. Another win came at the IHRA Northern Nationals where he beat Tim Grose in the final. At the NHRA Northstar Nationals, he qualified seventh with a 6.03/233.76. A first-round 5.97/246.57 by Gary Burgin beat Ray's 6.05/243.90. At Indy, for the US Nationals, the Max qualified a disappointing twelfth with a 5.98/224.99. And in the opening round, he lost to Ken Veney. He was runner-up to the "Snake" at the 13th annual Governor's Cup Championships at Sacramento. His final round 6.12 lost to Prudhomme's 5.99. A 6.19 failed to qualify for the eight-car show at the NHRA Golden Gate Nationals. He rebounded with a 5.98 to qualify seventh at the NHRA World Finals, but after beating Burgin in round one, he lost to Hawley in the next round. Raymond competed at the OCIR Manufacturer's Meet in Nov, but he failed in his attempt to reach the final. He ended the season at a four-car match at Moroso Motorsports Park during the running of the Citrus Nationals. Beadle set Low ET with a 6.27. — Ron Howard |

Notes: Raced at OCIR Mfg. Championships 1968. Confirmed 7.68 at OCIR Also 7.90/194.80 Low ET and Top Speed at OCIR Funny Car Championships. Dave was driving the "Beebe and Fedak" Top Fuel car until the end of July. On August 17, he showed up at Irwindale behind the wheel of Nelson Carter's "Super Chief" Dodge Charger FC. The race was between FC's and Fuel Altereds. In the first round, he ran an 8.21/186.72 that lost to Leon Fitzgerald's 8.11/184 in the "Pure Heaven." In the second round, he picked up to a winning 7.80/191.88 over a crossed up Gary Reed in the "Groundshaker." In the third race, he ran 8.32/190.66 that lost to Sush Matsubara's 7.78/192. It was obvious that the car could run. On August 31, he went to OCIR for a sixteen-car show. Dave set Low ET and Top Speed in the first round, with a 7.74/187.88 over Larry Barker's "Psycho" Mustang. In the semifinals, a 7.81/184.80 beat Gene Conway in the "Destroyer" Jeep at 8.27. Unfortunately, in the final, the transmission let go and Gas Ronda soloed for the victory. OCIR held a Fuel Altered vs. Funny Car race on September 21. Once again, Beebe was there. He beat Willie Borsch in the first round, with an 8.35/187.50. A second round 7.95/183.20 beat Matsubara's 8.09/197. And in round three, he made it a clean sweep by beating Fitzgerald's 8.17/189 with an 8.11/191.48. On October 5, OCIR held a 10 car round-robin race. Beebe won two of his three races with a best of 7.95/189.06 while beating Fred Goeske. |

Notes: Head wrench, also the occasional driver. This photo is of the 1969 car, which Schartman drove. Behling drove the 1968 Cougar as a second car in 1969. | Memphis had four fuel Funny Car's running on April 13. Arnie was one of them, and in his first race against Al Vanderwoude, the Cougar got sideways, and he had to pull the 'chute to straighten it out. He still won with a 9.23/157. In his second race, he ran against Dick Harrell. No ETs were reported, but Dick won with a speed of 204.54 over Behling's 201.34. It was probably the first time two FCs ran over 200 mph on the same run. On May 25 at Suffolk, Bruce Larson faced off against Arnie in a best of three match race. Larson beat Behling two straight, and in the second race, the Cougar's motor let go, and it was done for the day. He raced at Bristol for the AHRA Springnationals on June 8, but he broke in the first round. He got a win at US 30 on July 6 when he beat Bobby Wood in the final of an eight-car show. A first-round 7.81/191 beat Dick Harrell, and in the semis, he ran 7.79/198 to advance to the final. Both he and Wood ran 7.72, but Arnie's slower 198 got there first, beating a strong 204 mph blast by Wood’s Nova. Another win came on July 19 at the St. Louis 1/8 mile Funny Car Bonanza. Arnie ran a 5.32/142 in the first round, and in round two, a 5.10/144 (Low ET and Top Speed) beat Mike Burkhart's 5.28. In the semifinals, a 5.14/141 got around Harrell's Camaro, and in the final, he beat Ronnie Runyan's 5.31 with a 5.20/140 for the title. US 131 held their Funny Car Championships on August 30, but a strong 7.64/198.66 by Roger Lindamood in the first round, best Behling's 7.86/184.42. The following day (May 31), he raced at Minneapolis for another eight-car show. He beat Della Woods in the first round, but broke a crank and could not run in the semifinal. He ran at Suffolk on September 7 when eight cars all ran three races. In his first race, a 7.90/178.21 beat Henry Garcia in the Car Shop Camaro. A 7.72/177.86 beat Bryan Teal's 7.78/195.64. He fouled against Al Hanna in his third race. |

Notes: Jerry failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals (#2 alternate, but times not available). Things went even worse at the NHRA Gatornationals, where he crashed during qualifying. The car was reported to be a total loss, but it wasn't too long after the crash (May 1) that Boldenow showed up at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. He lost to Dale Pulde in the second round. He also lost to Pulde in the first round, at the IHRA World Nationals in June. On July 4, Jerry was at Union Grove for the IHRA Summernationals. It was an eight-car show, and his 6.45 qualified #4. In the first round, Danny Pickett fouled against him. In the semifinals, Larry Fullerton broke, and Boldenow advanced with a 6.67/161. He faced Tom McEwen in the final, and the "Goose" was running well as he had set Low ET(6.15)in qualifying. Jerry tried hard in the final, but his 6.47/225.00 finished second best to McEwen's 6.28/218. He did not race at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, but he was at Milan Dragway the following week(July 24)for the IHRA Northern Nationals. It was another eight-car show, and he qualified #5 with a 6.35. That gave him a first-round encounter with low qualifier McEwen. Once again, the two Corvette's lined up, and the results were the same once again. Tom's 6.24 got the better of Jerry's 6.38. Steve Gold sold the car to Ezra Boggs in late 1977. |

Notes: This was Bonin's best season since he started driving Funny Cars. It started at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where he debuted his new Firebird. He qualified #12 with a 6.37, and in the first round, picked up to 6.18/239.36 to beat Dale Emery's close 6.19/229. He then beat Ron Colson in the "Hawaiian" before losing to Raymond Beadle's 6.41 in the "Blue Max" with a quicker, but later 6.40 in the semifinals. At the Bakersfield March Meet, he qualified with a 6.35. Bonin ran a best of 6.10 before losing to eventual winner Eddie Pauling's 6.03 in the semifinals. He dominated the next event, the NHRA Gatornationals, where he qualified #1 with a 6.26/238.72 (Top Speed). He beat Dodger Glenn in the first round, and then set Low ET in round two with a 6.19/236 over Gary Burgin. In the semifinals, he dispatched Beadle with a 6.64/236. In the final, he raced veteran Roger Lindamood. Bonin took his first NHRA national event victory. Gordie then stopped off at OCIR for an eight-car show where he set Low ET and Top Speed at 6.13/240.00 before beating Dale Pulde in the final with a 6.26/236.84. He then won the Portland Funny Car Opener. There he set Low ET and Top Speed with a track record 232.95. The next day he went to Seattle and won its Funny Car Opener. Once again, he had the top times at 6.37/230.00. Bonin beat Terry Capp in the final. On April 9, he was at Irwindale's 64 car race. While he failed to reach the finals, he did run a best of 6.34/235.60. He did reach the final at the NHRA Division Six race at Firebird Raceway. There, his 6.58/227.76 times were good for both Low ET and Top Speed, but in the final, he fouled against Rob Bruins, who was driving the "Green Elephant." Gordie won the NHRA Division 6 race at Mission Raceway. He was runner-up at the third Division 6 race in Seattle. He set Low ET at 6.22 before running 6.57/219.51 in the final only to lose to Mike Miller's 6.37/231. In June, he was at National Trail for the NHRA Springnationals. Bonin qualified #9 at 6.25/233.76, and in the first round, low qualifier, Burgin, fouled away a 6.15/234 while Bonin advanced with a 6.27/226.70. A second-round 6.29/230.76 advanced over Tom McEwen's troubled 10.12. In the semifinals, he smoked the tire to a 7.09/133.18 in a losing effort to Don Prudhomme, who was long gone with a 6.17/235. He was runner-up to John Lombardo at the OCIR Nitro Championships before winning Woodburn's fourth NHRA Division 6 race. He set Low ET and Top Speed at 6.29/229.59 while beating Mike Miller in the final. He did not compete at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. On July 31, he was at Portland for a 32 car show, and while he failed to reach the final, he set Top Speed at 224.43. Up in Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals on August 7, Gordie qualified #5 in the eight-car field with a 6.36/229.59. Unfortunately, that set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Prudhomme. Don ran 6.21/234 to beat Bonin's 6.29/227. A week later (August 13), he was at Firebird Raceway for the Night Fire 500 race. All ten cars there made two runs, with the two lowest ETs meeting in the final. Gordie didn't make the final, but he did win his two races. A 7.21/215.74 beat Beadle in his first race, while he shut off when Twig Zeigler fouled against him in his second race. The NHRA Division 6 final was held at Portland International on August 19, and Gordie set Low ET and Top Speed on a first-round single with a 6.20/236.22. He then beat Miller to reach the final only to have Beadle gate him off the line, and his 6.33/225.56 lost to Raymond's 6.34/227. Bonin was at Spokane for the AHRA World Finals on August 21. He qualified #1 with a 6.34/230.17, and in round one, his 6.30/230.76 solo advanced when Jim Liberman lost fire. Gordie had another solo in round two when Capp shut off, and Bonin advanced with a 6.38/219.50. He looked like he was on his way to another win as his times were the best in each of the first two rounds, but he failed to hear the call for his semifinal race against Beadle, and the "Blue Max" was able to make a solo run into the final. At Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, he qualified #3 with a 6.106/240. An off-pace 6.62/224.43 lost to Bob Pickett's 6.36/216 in the first round. Only fifteen cars showed up at Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals, so qualifying wasn't a problem. Still, Bonin ran 6.28/234.98 (Top Speed) to qualify #5 for the show. A 6.42/222.77 advanced over Bob Papirnick in the first round, but in round two, his 6.40/230.76 lost to Tripp Shumake's 6.28/223. Irwindale held its last race ever on October 1, and Gordie was there. It was a sixteen-car field, and Bonin ran 6.69/223 in the first round, over Tom McEwen, and in round two, Prudhomme broke on the line, and Gordie advanced with an easy run. In the semifinals, he faced Lombardo and Bonin ended up having traction problems and shutting off while John ran 6.28/193 to advance. At Ontario Motor Speedway for the NHRA World Finals, Gordie ran 6.19/239.36 to qualify #5. Bob Pickett broke against him in the opening round of eliminations, and his 6.19/232 advanced. A strong 6.16/239 beat low qualifier Burgin's 6.25 in round two, and in the semifinals, a 6.22/232 beat Tommy Ivo's troubled 11.68. The final came down to Bonin vs. The "Snake." Prudhomme had run been running like a bracket racer, hitting 6.06 on all three runs in eliminations, not to mention his 6.05 in qualifying. So it looked like Bonin was done. But, both slowed to 6.3's in the final, and Bonin's 6.31/228.42 triggered the win light ahead of Don's 6.36/238. | Runner-up to Mike Miller at Seattle PDA. - Joe Moore |

Notes: AKA 240 Gordie. At the NHRA Winternationals, Bonin set Top Speed in qualifying with a 6.18/245.23 that placed him in thirteenth on the grid. It wouldn't be fair not to mention that the front end was up on that pass, and he drove it through to qualify. Few drivers would have been able to save that run. In the first round, he beat Don Prudhomme with a 6.27/242.58 but failed to get the car stopped and drove the car into the catch net. In round two, he lost to Kosty Ivanof. At the Gatornationals, he qualified #15, and in the first round, he crossed the centerline and lost to Dale Pulde. He won the NHRA Division race at Beeline. In the final, he beat Bob Pickett's 6.42/227 with a 6.22 (Low ET) at 237.46. He also ran 6.18/231 at the US Nationals but failed to qualify on a 6.10 bump! |
