Notes: Mike Ditty photo says 1978 Pomona, but this model Mustang did not return until 1979. It must be late in the year. This is the former Brad Anderson Arrow, which Sherm built. |

Notes: 62 Plymouth Back-65 Dodge I am the original owner of the Half Breed. I purchased the car in 1962 from McNeil-Stanley Chrysler Plymouth on Atlantic Blvd in East Los Angeles. My father "Pete" Everett was the Service Manager at the time and I worked the Lube Rack and new car get ready while attending college. It was a 1962 White Sport Fury Plymouth with the 410hp Max Wedge Package. In stock condition with the headers open (the cast iron headers were replaced with a set of Doug's Headers - the car was used to make the first set of Doug's headers for the Max Wedge engine) and 10 inch slicks, the car ran 13.06/106.91 at Lions Drag Strip in Long Beach, Ca. Careful inspection of the photo will show that the rear wheel openings were enlarged and recontoured to match the original look. Over the course of the next 2 years, a CT Stroker Crank was installed, increasing the displacement to 468ci and a special fabbed aluminum secondary manifold was added to the top of the cross ram manifold to accommodate a 3rd Carter 4 barrel carburetor. I have all of the old time slips and pictures and will dig them out and submit the additional info for your inspection. In 1965 I was drafted and went to Vietnam for 2 years. Leroy Hales and I went to Montebello High together and he worked at my dad's garage and gas station while attending SC College. He took over driving the car when I left. While I was gone, the engine broke and was replaced with a Keith Black Hemi, the front end was replaced with a lightweight Dodge Aluminum Front End and the roll bar was added with the top removed. This is the car seen in the pictures. I still have many of the parts from the original car (Heads, etc.) and a few years ago I purchased another white 1962 Plymouth Fury. I am slowly rebuilding it as a close clone of my original Plymouth. My dad, "Pete" passed away in May 2007. - Bill Everett |

Notes: I saw this car at OCIR in 1977. It was the lowest funny car I'd ever seen. - Bill | Was eventually sold to the team of McGuire & Wright. |

Notes: Phil was at OCIR for its NHRA Division Six opener on March 20. His 6.85/200.00 qualified #7 in the eight-car field, and in round one, his 6.91/199.55 lost to Jack Holsey's 6.61/202. He was back at OCIR on April 9 for its 64-car show. A 7.36 best failed to qualify. He also failed to qualify at the OCIR Nitro Championships run on June 25. It was just a four-car show, and his 6.84/194.38 was the first alternate. | Keith Martin lived in LA. He was from Norman, Oklahoma. His cars were "Shyster" because he was a full-time lawyer with only spare time on hand. He typically built one engine to go and one gutted engine for show. His driver had to use the one engine for the whole season because the other engine was not really a spare engine, with no pistons, cam, valves, etc. He built the transport trailer in his garage. The spare engine sat in the trailer to make it look like he had a spare engine for the competition. The others he was running against could sometimes afford two or three engines for the weekend, while his engine had to last the whole season. During the off-season, he would build up a new motor which had to be used throughout the next season without any major repairs. He quit driving himself because he was 6 foot 6 and weighed in at over 300 pounds. He just built the cars and, when he could, would attend the races to tune up the engine and do minor repairs. His daughter, Kathy, would tag along. She still has a Smokey and the Bandit Firebird with a shaker hood in her garage, gathering dust. Considering the low budget and part-time effort, he did quite well against the full-time professionals. He built a few engines for other people, including some in NASCAR. He quit racing when it just got too expensive to compete. - Albert Clark (cousin) |
