Notes: This car debuted at the Epping WWCS in August 1980. Its maiden pass was during Saturday night qualifying on a racing surface that had been wet for an hour while the rain was still falling. Classic Roy Harris! Photo from Indy 9/80, where Roy qualified #9 with a 6.067/238.72. He faced low qualifier Raymond Beadle in the "Blue Max in the first round." Luck was on his side, though, as Beadle smoked the tires in their race, and Harris advanced into the second round with a 6.28/236.22. Tim Grose smoked the tires in his second-round race, and Roy ran 6.31/233 for the win. His luck ran out in the semifinals when he lost to eventual winner Ed McCulloch. He was at Rockingham for the IHRA US Open on September 14. Roy qualified #6 in the eight-car field, but his 6.40 lost to Dick Rosberg's 6.19 in the "Fighting Irish" Firebird in the first round. He failed to qualify at the NHRA Fallnationals. In October, he was at Fremont for the Winston Record Challenge race. Unfortunately, he lost to Don Prudhomme in the semifinal, where his 6.35/214.28 fell to the "Snake's" 6.08/220. Harris ended his season at OCIR for the NHRA World Finals, where he qualified #7. He beat Tom Ridings in round one, and in the second round, his 6.21 beat Rob Williams' 6.29. He got out of shape in the semifinals and crossed the centerline while racing Ron Colson in the "Hawaiian." Roy's Indy 6.06 was his best NHRA national event ET of the year, and an earlier 240.64 from Pomona was his best speed in the Arrow). |

Notes: Michael Beach photo from Martin, MI, 1981. This one is wild, here it goes guys: old mag (I believe Hot Rod) had Jim driving for Mike very early in the year at a match race in SoCal. It specifically mentioned that the 5.85 he ran was identical to Mike's 5.85 (within a month or so of one another). Both runs were considered suspect by their competitors. | Video shows the actual run, including the scoreboard and announcer claiming the run was the quickest in history. Raced against Prudhomme's yellow Pepsi Challenger. | Jim drove Roland Leong's car at OCIR for the Super Bowl of Drag Racing event in Jan while Mike was on tour in Australia. He ran the 5.85 and made it to the final where he faced Bob Pickett. Bob won with a 6.25 over Jim's off-pace 6.99. |

Notes: Michael Beach photo from Martin, MI, 1984. This car was destroyed in a crash during qualifying at Milan for the IHRA Northern Nationals. Murf had already qualified #10 with a career best 5.97/238, but he decided to come back out and see if he could better his position. The tires broke loose at 3/4 track and the car ended up barrel-rolling down the track. The wreckage then burst into flames. McKinney was OK. NHRA best times for 1984 were 6.520/201.34 first alternate at Baton Rouge, 6.547/225.56 seventh alternate at Columbus, 6.107/231.95 second alternate at Brainerd, and 6.074/237.46 sixth alternate at Indy. |

Notes: AKA the US Male. Photo from Columbus 1988. Sherman qualified #14 at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals with a 5.78. Unfortunately, he lost to Tim Grose in the first round. He was at Atco in June for the IHRA Summernationals, where he qualified #7 in the eight-car field with a 5.96/239.80. He improved to 5.85/243.90 in the first round, to beat John Force who broke. But a semifinal, 5.93/234.98 lost to eventual winner Bruce Larson's 5.74/248. Best NHRA speed is 262.92 at NHRA Maple Grove. Did RC run 268 mph somewhere this year? |

Notes: Dudley was at Tulsa in May for its Springnationals race. His 6.35/212.76 qualified #6 in the eight-car field. He improved to 6.17/237.46 in the opening round, but it wasn't enough, as he lost to Johnny West's 6.00/238 in the "Hawaiian." Ron qualified #15 at the NHRA Springnationals with a 5.96/245.29. He lost to Billy Meyer in the first round when he crossed the centerline. At Englishtown, for the NHRA Summernationals, his career-best (to this point) 5.787/263.85 qualified #11. Unfortunately, he again lost in the opening round, this time to Mike Dunn. Shortly after that, he went to Kansas City for its Summernationals. Ron's 6.22 qualified #6 in the eight-car field, and in the first round, he lost to Doc Halladay. Photo from Indy 1987. |
