Notes: Gordie started the year in the Hawaiian, but started driving the Pacemaker Vega in March. His first NHRA national event was the Grandnational at Sanair. He qualified #8 on the bump with a 6.813/212.76. Al Segrini beat him in round one, 6.65/218 to 6.809/215.82. Gordie qualified #9 at Indy with a 6.446/227.84. He lost to Billy Meyer in round one, 6.22/217 to 6.597/212.26. Bonin qualified #13 at the Ontario Supernationals at 6.482/220.04. He lost to Ed McCulloch in round one, 6.42/216 to 6.558/226.13. Michael Beach photo from Martin, MI, 1974. Also ran 6.49 at Tri-City. We formerly listed a 6.425. We need to validate that Gordie ran that time in 1974. |

Notes: Stan was at Dragway 42 for the AHRA Grandnationals in July. He qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car show with a 6.51, but in the opening round, lost to Len Imbrogno. At the PHR Championships at Martin, Michigan, his 6.30/205.47 qualified #6, but he got out of shape and shut off in the first round, against Gary Burgin. Gary did not run any NHRA national events this year. Michael Beach photo from Martin, MI, 1980. |

Notes: The car carried Bundy's name in '81, changed to "Gold Digger" in '82-'83. John was in Atlanta early in March for an eight-car show. Unfortunately, he failed to qualify as traction was horrible. It only took a 7.48 to qualify, and the cars of Raymond Beadle and Kenny Bernstein were among the non-qualifiers. |

Notes: Jerry's early NHRA event record: 6.100/236.46 DNQ-3 at Gainesville; 6.004/244.10 Q11 at Columbus, R1 loss to John Force, 5.80/248 to 6.271/233.46; 5.900/241.02 Q14 at Englishtown, R1 loss to Johnny West, 5.82/250 to 5.916/241.54. Jerry qualified #12 at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals with a 5.864/256.04. In the first round, he could not appear, and Scott Kalitta took his place against Mark Oswald. At the NHRA Keystone Nationals at Maple Grove, a 5.915/245.70 qualified #14. Another 5.915 at 235.66 in the first round, lost to Ed McCulloch's 5.80/246. The following week (September 21), he was at Bristol for the IHRA Fallnationals. Caminito qualified #7 in the eight-car show, but in round one, he picked up to a 5.79/238 to beat Doc Halladay. In the semifinals, he lost to Dominic Santucci. On September 28, he was at the Texas Motorplex for the NHRA Chief Nationals. Unfortunately, his best of 5.853/248.96 was good for the second alternate. That was his last NHRA national event of the year. Listed times from the December 86/Jan 87 Drag Racing List. Photo from Indy 1986. | ET was probably an east coast match race; it was '86, though. - Curt Swartz |

Notes: Jerry failed to qualify for the eight-car field at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. During the week before the NHRA Gatornationals, Caminito was T-boned by Jerry Jefferson at a match race. He arrived at Gainesville with the damaged car, and chassis builder Murf McKinney came to the race to ensure the chassis had no damage. They redid the fiberglass on the right side of the car. They finished it Wednesday at 11:00 pm. Caminito then ran 5.840/250.55 to qualify #14. After all that work, he fouled away a 5.878/191.40 in the first round, against John Force. His next stop was at Englishtown's Spring Funny Car Bonanza race in April. Jerry didn't reach the final, but he set Low ET and Top Speed at 5.88/241.93. At Maple Grove for its Spring Funny Car Nationals, Caminito failed to make the finals in the 12 car show that was run "Chicago Style." He did run 5.88/234.37 on one pass, but he blew the clutch on his other pass. rnAt the NHRA Grandnatinals, Jerry qualified #13 at 10.85 in a short field. In round one, he lost to Jim Head, 5.90/241 to 6.089/236.40. Jerry was the sixth alternate at NHRA Englishtown at 6.052/239.10. He qualified #15 at Indy at 5.786/246.17 and lost to Johnny West in round one, 5.75/257 to 5.879/249.44. He was the third alternate at the Keystone Nationals at 6.114/233.10 but qualified at Ennis at 5.551/254.38. In round one, he lost to Raymond Beadle, 5.72/255 to 9.86/83. That was Jerry's last NHRA national event of the year. Photo from Indy 1987. |

Notes: Caminito's bad luck continued at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified #10 with a 5.62but in the opening round of eliminations, the car broke a couple of connecting rods, and the car caught fire. Jerry ended up with a badly burnt right hand but was otherwise ok. At Atco, for the IHRA Summernationals, Caminito qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field with a 5.98/241.28. He faced low qualifier Ed McCulloch in the first round, and gambled on the tree. It came up red, and his 5.86 showed that he had to take the chance as Ed won with a 5.53. His next stop was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. Once again, he was on the bump, and this time he lost to John Martin in the first round. He followed the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals, where his 5.89/249.79 qualified #12. Only fourteen cars showed, so some cars took it easy in qualifying as the last car in was at 7.38. Jerry got a break in the first round, when Kenny Bernstein fouled against him, but in round two, he lost to Johnny West driving the "Hawaiian." Back stateside for the NHRA Summernationals, he ran 5.70/252.10 to qualify #15. Jerry was at Maple Grove for the Super Stock Nationals. He qualified #5 in the eight-car field with a 5.80/245.23, but an off-pace 6.21/206.89 lost to eventual winner Bernstein's 5.66/248 in the opening round. | Best NHRA times are shown. He lost to eventual winner Dick Custy in the first round. Shortly after that, he was at Tri-City for an eight-car show. All cars were to make three passes. Vic ran 6.96/197.80 to beat Wilcox's 7.97 in his first race. In the second race, his 6.83/200.00 lost to Tom Hoover's 6.72/191. In his final appearance, he got a solo run, running 7.02/196.93. In August, Vic was at Englishtown for an eight-car show. In the first round, he set Top Speed with a 6.53/222.77 that beat Denny Savage's out-of-shape 8.83 in the "Chi-Town Hustler." In the semifinals, he improved to a 6.50 at 220.04 to beat Al Segrini's 6.80/211. Unfortunately, he suffered engine damage on the run and could not return for the final. Notes: Collins did not run in 1982. Collins' Pioneer Sponsorship ended late '81; he sat out '82, returned in '83 with Camaro & JVC. Photo from Milan, MI, 1985. | Qualified second at the AHRA Winternationals with a 6.88, but lost to Bryan Raines in the first round. A 6.445/222.22 failed to qualify for the NHRA Winternationals, and an improving 6.09 still was unable to make the cut at the Gatornationals. He also failed to qualify for the NHRA Cajun Nationals, running only a best of 6.35/209.78. A 6.81 qualified fifth at the AHRA Springnationals at Tulsa on May 2, but he met low qualifier (6.29), Don Prudhomme, in the first round, and his 6.63/198.23 fell to Don's 6.36/235.60. On the NHRA side of things, a 6.17/232.55 was good for second alternate at the Springnationals in June. At the AHRA Gateway Nationals, John qualified sixth with a 6.31/220.59, but he smoked the tires and lost to Tom McEwen's 6.11/227.28 in the first round. Another 6.17 at the NHRA Summernationals on July 17 again made him a non-qualifier. He followed that up with another non-qualifying attempt at the Mile High Nationals on July 30, where his 6.29/227.27 failed to make the show. A 5.97/241.28 did make the show in the sixteenth spot at the NHRA US Nationals, but he lost to Tom Anderson in the first round. He qualified fifth at the AHRA World Finals at Spokane, but fell in the first round, to a hard-charging John Force, who ran 5.79/253.52 to beat Collins' 6.17/216.34. He ended the year on a high note by qualifying #1 with a 5.91 at OCIR's final drag race on October 29, but he failed to make it into the finals. |

Notes: In July, Ron was at U.S. 30 in Gary, Indiana, for the AHRA Chi-Town Nationals. It was an eight-car field, and in the opening round, his 6.27/239.93 (the clocks were always off at Gary) lost to Gary Burgin's 6.12/251. Photo from Pop Hot Rod 1982, where the team qualified on the bump at 6.39. He lost in the first round. The former Chi-Town Hustler '77 car. Confirmed 223.88 at other tracks. |

Notes: Photo from Pop Rod Championships, US 131 Dragway, 1983. | A 6.33 failed to qualify at the NHRA Gatornationals. A quicker 6.17/238.09 at the NHRA Springnationals still failed to make the show, but it was good enough for first alternate. At the AHRA Gateway Nationals in June, he qualified fifth with a 6.30/230.18, but he lost to low qualifier (6.05) Don Prudhomme in the first round. A 6.13/238.72 qualified sixteenth at the NHRA Summernationals, but a first-round 6.11/241.28 fell to Ken Veney's 5.91/245.90. He again qualified fifth with a 6.29/230.76 at the next AHRA race, the Summernationals at Kansas City on August 1. A first-round 6.34/233 beat low qualifier (6.09) Mike Dunn's 6.58/163. In the semifinals, Tom McEwen's 6.08/237 beat Ron's 6.29/236.84. On August 21 he ran a 6.05/238.72 to qualify twelfth at the NHRA Northstar Nationals, but Mark Oswald beat him in the first round. He lost in the first round, again (to John Force) at the NHRA US Nationals, but he qualified well, running a 5.96/243.24 for the fourteenth spot. He ran at Bristol for the IHRA Fallnationals on September 25 and qualified third with a 5.90/225 and lasted until Oswald's 5.89 dropped him in the semifinals. |

Notes: Ron had a bad weekend at Gainesville in March for the NHRA Gatornationals. During qualifying, a blower exploded and blew the body off the car and high into the air. His best of 6.125/238.09 was the second alternate for the show. That was the team's only NHRA national event this year. Photo from Pop Rod 1883, Martin, MI. |
