Notes: Charlie was in St. Louis on June 22 for the IHRA Gateway Nationals. He qualified #9 with a 7.55/184, and in the opening round, he beat Bob Olson. He fouled against the eventual winner Bob Glidden in round two. The IHRA Northern Nationals was held at Milan on July 6, and Peppers ran 7.57/186.33 to qualify #12. In the first round, his 7.62/185.18 lost to Rickie Smith's 7.44/191. Shortly after that (July 20), he was at Edgewater for the IHRA Summernationals. A 7.65/182.55 qualified #13. But in round one, he lost to Darrell Alderman. He went to Martin, Michigan, on August 3 for the PHR Championships. This turned out to be a costly race for him as he blew his engine on the 7.84/179.28 qualifying pass (#14). Charlie was obviously unable to run in eliminations. Listed times from The Drag Racing List, Volume 1, Number 9, December 86/January 87. Photo from Milan, MI, 1985. |

Notes: Michael Beach photo from Martin, MI, 1975. - CS | Run at less than legal weight at a match race. | Joe was at Byron Dragway early in July for a best of three match against Wayne Gapp. He was using a 460 cubic inches engine for this event. In the first race, Gapp fouled, and Satmary ran 8.87/156.25 to win. Gapp came back to win the next two rounds and the match. But Satmary still ran 8.85/156.79 and 8.85/156.25 in the losses. The Pinto was running 8.7's in the final two races. |

Notes: In March, for the IHRA Winternationals, Smith qualified #8 with a 7.63/182; he made it to round two before losing to Billy Ewing. He set a 189.96 IHRA speed record at the Pro-Am Nationals at Rockingham. He also qualified #1 with a career-best 7.45/188 before falling victim to tire shake in round two and shutting down against eventual winner Ronnie Sox. At the IHRA Springnationals, his clutch went, and he lost in the semifinal. In Aug, at MIR for the Mountain Motor Nationals, Rickie qualified #3 with a 7.68/184, but he fouled in round two. At the IHRA US Open, Smith topped Darrell Alderman in the final for a big win. In September, at the IHRA Fallnationals, Rickie qualified #2 with a 7.48/185.15. He went on to run a best of 7.47/186.72 in eliminations. In the final, against Bob Glidden, his clutch gave out, and he had to settle for runner-up. He ended the season as the 1985 IHRA Pro Stock champion. Michael Beach photo from Milan, MI 85. |

Notes: Photo from Milan, MI, 1989. Tom was at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, but his 6.59/207.81 best was good for the eleventh alternate. He was at Bristol early in October for the IHRA Fallnationals. His 6.58/173.07 qualified #14, and in the opening round, he improved to 6.42/209.08. But it wasn't enough to beat Danny Nimmo's 6.27/220. |

Notes: Winner at NHRA D6 Nl'akapxm BC 1989 with a 6.19 230.42 over Roger Bateman. Early in August, Bucky was at Seattle for the NHRA Seafair Nationals. His 6.07/230.53 qualified second behind Chris Christensen's 6.00/234. In the opening round, his 6.14/229.41 defeated Mike Gordon's 6.27/221. Terry Mullins fouled against him in round two, and he advanced with a 6.12/229.82. Another 6.12 at 228.83 stopped Lou Gasparelli's 6.20/223 in the semifinal. He faced Pat Austin for the title. Pat qualified third and had run steady 6.0s to reach the final. But this was Bucky's day, and a consistent 6.12/228.19 scored him his first NHRA National event win over Pat's 6.15/226. Sometimes's uncle knows best! The following week (August 13), he was at Firebird Raceway for the Nightfire Nationals. It was an eight-car field, and he qualified #3 with a 6.60/212.68. He soloed with a 6.50/213.69 when Vic Phillips broke. His times continued to improve in the semifinal, where his 6.40/217.83 (Top Speed) beat John Weaver's 6.60/212. This time, his final-round opponent was Rick Henkelman. Once again, Bucky picked up the trophy, running Low ET at 6.37/216.78 to win over Rick's 6.59/206 runner-up effort. Photo from Columbus 1989 (far lane). Listed times from The Drag Racing List, Winter 89/90, Volume 5, Number 1. |

He faced low qualifier Vern Moats in the first round, where his 6.23/221.18 lost to Moats' 6.18/222. Beal ran well at the second NHRA Division 7 race at Baylands. He qualified #4 in the sixteen-car field, and his 6.47/213.77 in the first round beat Art Hendey's 6.73/199. Mike Andreotti fouled against him in the second round, and Chuck shut off to 10.60/75.75 to advance. He faced Brad Anderson in the semifinals, and Brad's 6.33/218 stopped his 6.53/213.27. Notes: Bill Matheis of Powerhouse Speed Shop was Bunny's partner. Burkett was at Darlington in March for the IHRA Winternationals. She won her first-round race with a 6.35/216, but in round two, Al DaPozzo's 6.38/218 nipped her 6.39/217. The following week (March 22), she was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Carol qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field with a 6.48/213, but she lost in round one. Maple Grove held its Spring Funny Car Nationals, and Burkett reached the final, running a 6.48/215.31 best. She improved to 6.42/216.86 in the final but lost to Pete Gallen's quick-leaving 6.47/216. On May 17, Burkett was at DeSoto Memorial for the NHRA Division 2 race. She qualified #2 in the eight-car field with a 6.46/220.58. Another 6.46 at 215.31 beat Dal Denton in the first round, but in the semifinals, her 6.43/213.77 lost to a quick-leaving John Powell, who won with a 6.45/206. At the NHRA Springnationals, Burkett qualified #7 with a 6.48/211.86. Unfortunately, a first-round 6.55/212.21 lost to Arnie Karp's 6.54/214. Bunny ran 6.337/225.22 at NHRA Indianapolis IN 9/87 to Qualify #7; she would Defeat #15 Qualifier Terry Mullins in Round 1 6.384/224.38 to Mullins' Losing 6.445/216.19. She would lose to #11 Qualifier Fred Hagen in the Second round (After it was run twice because the Christmas Tree Malfunctioned the first time) when she was late on the tree with .714 Reaction time to Hagen's .490 RT & her 6.405/222.88 would lose to Hagen's 6.425/222.93 Holeshot. The photo from Columbus 1987 shows her #4 1986 NHRA finish, but she was the IHRA World Champion in 1986. |
