Notes: Ran this car from 1981/83. Top Alcohol Dragster that he purchased from Jim Johnson (Colorfast/Flo-Rite dragster) out of Edmonton, who gave him a ton of advice as Dad stepped up to Alcohol. Dad loved driving this car; it was fast and went straight and smooth. He won the 1982 AHRA World Finals and came runner-up to Ken Sitko in 1983 at the World Finals. This photo from the AHRA Winternationals in 1983. This car was originally debuted in 1974 as a top fuel streamliner (with wheel pants on the front) by Vel’s/ Parnelli Jones and driven by Danny Ongais for Firestone. It was then sold and driven by Maynard Garritty in Top Fuel as well. After that, it was sold to Jim Johnson, who lengthened the car to accommodate the 3-speed Lenco in the Pro Comp ranks. The best time of 6.59 is a guess. We need to validate. | This is the former Dan-Cap Top Fuel with the slight curvature on top of the body, same front solids. - Joe Moore |
