Notes: Bill raced at Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals but failed to reach the finals. He failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals (7th alternate but times unknown). Things went better at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where his 6.08/242.58 was the quickest Donovan-powered car to qualify (#10). His 6.30/233.16 advanced when Gary Beck shut off in the opening round. In the second round, Pryor's 6.19/240.64 defeated Clayton Harris' 6.32/232.55. In the semifinal, his off-pace 6.56/215.31 still won over a tire-smoking Johnny Abbott at 6.69/225.56. He faced Kelly Brown in the final, and both cars slowed from their earlier times, with Brown's 6.26/244.56 getting the victory over Bill's 6.60/218.44. He won the NHRA Division 3 race at Edgewater in May. Over 30 Top Fuel cars were attempting to qualify at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. Pryor ran 6.04/217.39 to qualify #12. In the first round, his troubled 6.371/223.32 lost to eventual winner Don Garlits' 6.091/238.72. Shortly after, he went to Detroit for the North American Grand Nationals. All ten cars ran round one, with only the quickest four advancing. Bill's 6.37/205 over Bill Goudreau advanced, but while beating Lou Novotny in the semifinal with a 6.69/174.08, he had the blower explode and was out for the rest of the day. Bill was the fourth alternate at NHRA Denver with a 6.176 in late June. On July 8, he won the NHRA Division 3 race at Union Grove, beating Connie Kalitta in the final. Only two Donovan-powered cars qualified at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. Pryors' 6.03/236.84 was the quickest, getting the #12 spot in the show. Both Donovans lost in the opening round of eliminations. Pryor's 6.13/225.56 fell to Beck's 5.95/242.48. Even though the handwriting was on the wall, and the days of the Donovan were numbered in fuel racing, Bill still managed to win the next NHRA Division 3 race held at Martin, Michigan. He qualified #3 and then ran 6.36/193.96 to defeat Don Kohler in round one. Lou Novelli fouled against him in the semifinal, and Bill made an easy pass. A 6.45/183.04 got him the victory over Wayne Ernest in the final. He followed the NHRA tour into Canada for the Grandnationals. His 6.13/218.97 qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field. He broke on the line in the first round against Kalitta. Bill ran 5.953/245.23 to qualify #18 at Indy. He beat Garth Widdison in round one, 6.043/233.76 to 9.406/90.81. However, Dave Uyehara ended his day in round two, 5.881/244.56 to 6.519/165.13. The team was the eighth alternate at Seattle (times unknown but no quicker than 6.04). Bill qualified on the bump at Ontario, 6.216/199.11, and lost to Dwight Salisbury in round one, 6.229/232.50 to 6.349/218.97. The team went on to win Division 3 in 1979, his third divisional crown. Photo from 1979 Union Grove, Wi. | FTQ at the Fallnationals; "scattered" a motor according to ND. So, that's why I didn't see 'em Saturday. - Joe Moore | Bill won Division 3 again in 1979, the year that the team finally cracked into the national top 10 with an impressive sixth-place finish behind a handful of top talent: Rob Bruins, Kelly Brown, Garlits, Muldowney, and Bob Noice. - Phil Burgess, Dragster Insider, 9/30/08 |

Notes: Paul was the second alternate at NHRA Columbus in June at 5.362/254.09. At NHRA Sanair, he qualified #8 at 5.238/268.41. Shirley Muldowney drove around a solid holeshot to take a close 5.24/268 to 5.343/259.29 win in round one. At New York International on July 1, Paul was at the IHRA Empire Nationals. Qualifying was not much of an issue as only eight cars showed for the eight-car field. Paul ran 5.41 and then picked up to 5.30/256.54 in the opening round over Mike Brotherton. He smoked the tires against eventual winner Gene Snow in the semi-final. Paul qualified #14 at the NHRA Summernationals in Englishtown. He ran 5.203/268.73 in qualifying and then recorded a stout 5.180/272.23 that lost to Dick LaHaie's 5.07/275 in round one. 22 IHRA competition number. That was Paul's last NHRA national event of the year. We had long listed 5.165/279.06 as Paul's bests for 1990 (IHRA times?); we need to confirm. Photo from 1990 Grandnationals, Montreal. |

Notes: Hillbillies on Nitro. Steve opened the season at Gainesville, where he was the first (and only) alternate at 4.910/275.34. The team qualified on the bump at Richmond as there were only 16 cars present, 8.791/89.90. In the first round, Steve lost to Joe Amato, 4.670/311.13 to a vastly improved 5.076/249.69. Steve was also the first and only alternate at Atlanta, running 5.092/285.08. Steve qualified #14 at Columbus at 5.082/287.47. He broke against Cory McClenathan in round one. The team also qualified #14 at St. Louis, running 4.850/295.14 for the slot. Kenny Bernstein ended their day in round one, 4.795/289.94 to 4.958/295.66. Steve was the fourth alternate at Indy at 4.899/291.70. Steve got his first round win of the year at the Matco Tools Supernationals, run at Englishtown in September. He qualified #8 at 5.218/272.94 and ran 11.265/87.38 to coast to a first-round win over broken Jim Bailey. Larry Dixon took Steve out in Round Two, 4.689/315.05 to 5.032/271.62. That was the team's last NHRA national event of the year.rnrn Photo from 2000 US Nationals. |

Notes: 260" wheelbase. Won Division 1 in 1975 and 1977. Not sure on the year of this photo (early, we think). Made a big splash this year with 5.91/242.58 at Englishtown and a 5.92/241 at Indy. Best numbers were the 5.910/242.58 at E-Town. |
