Notes: Jim ran 5.085 at 297.71 at Memphis in Paul Smith's car. We assume his other best times for 1997 were in this Winnebago car. We need to confirm everything and then assign the best times for the proper cars. Photo from 1997 US Nationals, where Jim was the first alternate at 5.181/286.25. That was Jim's first NHRA national event of the year. He qualified #10 at Maple Grove at 5.160/294.11 and beat Ron Capps in round one, 5.459/263.85 to 5.99/244. He lost to John Force in round two, 5.07/303 to 7.157/118.56. Jim then ran the Memphis race, qualifying #12 with the 5.085/297.71 and losing to Chuck Etchells in round one, 5.09/304 to 5.446/207.08. He qualified #12 at Ennis at 5.079/291.73 but lost to Force in the first round, 5.00/311 to 5.158/249.37. He qualified #11 at the Matco Supernationals at 5.154/291.16 and lost to Dean Skuza in round one, 5.17/302 to broke. That was Jim's last NHRA national event of the year. |

Notes: Richard qualified #8 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.48/271.41. A 5.51/272.47 beat Gary Densham in the first round, but a 5.50/272.97 lost to Glenn Mikres' 5.33/279 in round two. He qualified well at the NHRA Arizona Nationals with a 5.39/263.46 for the #6 spot, but he lost to Del Worsham in the opening round. At Houston, for the NHRA Supernationals, his 5.43/269.38 qualified #9. In the opening round, he got revenge over Worsham, but the car broke against Chuck Etchells in round two. He barely made the field at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Hartman's 5.72/264.31 qualified on the "bump." He defeated low qualifier Jim White in round one with a 5.48/264.23. In the second round, his 5.54/262.77 lost to eventual winner Mark Oswald's 5.42/248. He went to Rockingham in April for the NHRA Winston Invitational. It was an eight-car show, and his 5.44/270.02 qualified on the "bump."In round one, he again dumped low qualifier White. It was a close race, but Richard's 5.48/267.85 beat White's 5.50/273. In the semifinal. He lost to John Force's 5.39/262 with a 5.57/236.46. Atlanta was the next stop on the NHRA calendar for the Southern Nationals. Richard qualified #7 with a 5.33/270.92. Notes: Photo from 1990 Nationals. Scott qualified #5 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.38/269.94. A first-round 5.39/268.49 advanced when Jerry Caminito fouled, but in round two he slowed to 5.44/250.62 and lost to Bruce Larson's 5.31/271. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he qualified #10 with a 5.42/269.38, but he lost to Dale Pulde in the first round. Things didn't go so well at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals and the best time Scott was able to run (6.72/135.48) failed to qualify. At Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, things went better but not much. He qualified #15 with a 5.64/257.21, but he lost to John Force in the first round. Another first-round loss came at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals where Kalitta qualified #11 with a 5.56/262.00 before losing to McCulloch. |
