Notes: McCahill was at OCIR for its Grand Premiere race in January. Eight cars were there, and all were to make two passes, with the two Low ET cars meeting in the final. In Billy's first race, he got out of shape and crossed the centerline in his race against Tom McEwen. In his second race, he had issues and shut down, losing to Jim Dunn's ten-second pass. McCahill did not reach the final. | When McCahill red-lighted at the Grand Premier, McEwen went off and on the throttle to avoid the wreck. It was something to see at night, from the r/h fence off the starting line. (McCahill's lane). No-show at the Winternationals following an ND announcement. Swept-back headers and exhaust fire. - Joe Moore | Video link shows the car at AHRA Tucson 1983. |

Notes: McCahill was in Tucson in the middle of January for the AHRA Winternationals. His 6.41 qualified #5 in the eight-car field. Unfortunately, that set up a first-round showdown with low qualifier Don Prudhomme. Billy got out of shape and crossed the centerline while eventual winner Prudhomme advanced. Billy was at Carlsbad in March for an eight-car show. In the first round, his 6.36/220.52 (Top Speed) beat Sherm Gunn's 6.38. He got the "odd-lot" solo in the semi-final and made an easy pass. In the final, he faced Henry Harrison, and McCahill smoked the tires and shut down, losing to Harrison's 6.78. 1700 lb. match racer. | Yep. 3/4 Steve Quercio/Carlsbad match race advertised earlier in ND with a Pomona picture of the LA Hooker Omni. Force actually drove the Hooker at this event, partially primered from a guard rail at Pomona. McCahill went from KW-semi rig to ramp truck, but made it work. - Joe Moore |
