Notes: One of the backflip funny cars that Romeo Palamides built, see Beswick for another. Listed times from early in 1968. | Don Schumacher's new ride for '68 was this 120" Romeo Palamides built, rear-engined Charger. The body was full sized built by Fiberglass Ltd. It used a 426 Hemi filled with M/T rods, Forgedtrue pistons, and a Crane cam. The heads were reworked by Gary Brown. Cragar supplied the blower drive and manifold and the GMC 6/71 was prepared by Don Hampton and used a Pete Robinson case. Up top sat a Hilborn injection unit. The TorqueFlite transmission transferred the power back to a Mopar rear with 3.54 gears. An early run on 45% nitro got Don an 8.12 time slip. | Also ran 8.19 at Minnesota Dragways. |

Notes: Gene raced at the Irwindale Grand Premiere and hit 6.67/205.94. He was out for most of the first six months of 1975 after back surgery but returned in June 1975 to win at IHRA Bristol with a best of 6.36/223.88, defeating Denny Savage in the Chi-Town Hustler in the final. Finished third in 1975 IHRA points (tied with Denny Savage). | Gene was at Edmonton International on July 30 for its Funny Car Spectacular race. There were 24 cars present. All were to run three rounds of racing, with the winner being determined by wins. In Snow's first race, his 6.54/194 beat a badly out-of-shape Bill Spevacek. In his second race, he beat Ken McLean with a 6.39/215. His third race didn't go as planned as Raymond Beadle got out of shape and crossed the centerline, sideswiping Gene's Vega. Shortly after, he was in Seattle for the Seafair Funny Car Championships. It was a big 32-car show. Snow's 7.09/149 in the opening round of eliminations beat Bryan Raines' 7.14/194. But in the second round, his 6.53 lost to Ed McCulloch's 6.38. |

He beat Bob Mayer in round one, 6.852/210 to 7.07/149, but he smoked the tires in round two where his 6.91/223.22 lost to Paul Smith's 6.69/214 in the "Fireball Vega.” At Green Valley on May 5 for the AHRA Grand Am Nationals, he qualified third with a 6.51 but lost to eventual winner Don Prudhomme in the semifinals. A 6.618 qualified Charlie in the dreaded ninth spot at the NHRA Springnationals. He met the number one qualifier, Prudhomme, in the first round. Don's 6.42/215 beat a tire-smoking 7.70 by the Mike Burkhart car. Charlie also ran 6.50 at Green Valley. Therwhanger set a new track record at Wichita with a 6.55. |

Notes: I stopped by Gary Phillips' Shell station in Jan or February 1977 and the car was 'up north' getting the new Monza shell and Circus paint. He seemed excited at having a new body on the car. - David Hapgood | Won NE Funny Car Nats over Larson, 6.81/211 to 6.84/233. Ran 6.60 at Englishtown. |

Notes: West started the 1988 season at Firebird Raceway's Super Bowl of Drag Racing. He qualified #5 in the eight-car show with a 5.82/247, setting up a first-round race with low qualifier John Force. He lost the race, running a 5.93/243.24 to Force's 5.40/268. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, he again lost to Force in the first round. He qualified #13 with a 5.68/254.45. His 5.98/234.37 in the first round lost to Force's 5.49/267. Shortly after that, the team made a stop at Baylands Raceway for a four-car match run at the East/West Meet. West beat Mike Dunn's 5.67/253 in his first race with a 5.64/249.30. He ran another 5.64 at 245.90 in his second race but lost to Force's 5.61/252. The final was another race between him and Force. Once again, John got the win, running a track record 5.51 at 248 to beat the "Hawaiian's" 5.82/221.13. At the NHRA Gatornationals, West did much better in qualifying, turning a 5.45/268.57 (career-best) for the #5 spot. Unfortunately, he still couldn't get out of the first round, as this time, Jim Head's 7.29/138 beat his 9.67/87.83 in a troubled match. He qualified for the NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta with a 5.87/258.10 before losing in round one. The next stop for the team was at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. West ran 5.70/257.36 to qualify #10. He slowed to 5.86/247.72 in the first round and lost to Jim Head's 5.68/253. The month of May ended with the team at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. Only 13 cars showed, so qualifying wasn't much of an issue. Still, West ran 5.72/259.74 for the #10 spot. He continued to have problems getting past round one as this time, he fell to Kenny Bernstein. At Columbus, his 5.77/258.59 qualified #15 for the NHRA Springnationals. Once again, he took a loss in the first round, this time to Ed McCulloch. He finally got around the first round at the NHRA Grandnationals. Only 14 cars showed for the race, and his 5.67/259.74 qualified #9. Typically, he would have run the low qualifier in a sixteen-car field, but because the field was two short, he ran the second qualifier McCulloch in round one and won. He then sent Jerry Caminito home in round two with a 5.70/251. His run ended in the semi-final, where a 5.68 was not enough to beat Don Prudhomme's 5.55. Johnny ran 5.35/270 at the Englishtown Funny Car Nationals. His best NHRA national event times were 5.427 at Maple Grove and 268.65 at the World Finals at Pomona. |

Notes: Norm was VERY protective of this car! I put my hand on the roof to lean in and look into the cockpit at Union Grove, and he came out of the trailer and barked at me! He came over with a rag and quickly wiped my handprint off! Good PR! - Tim Simplot | Norm Wilcox started the '76 season at Fremont for the Nitro Bowl race in January. All the cars made three runs. Norm's 6.83 at a shut off 115.97 beat Ron Williams in his first race while a 6.51 in his second beat Bob Pickett in the Mickey Thompson Grand Am. He had some mechanical problems on the run and was unable to run a third race. The "Hawaiian" team did not race at the AHRA Winternationals or the NHRA Phoenix Winter Classic. |
