Notes: Gold plated wheels red with gold lettering also. Lawton was in Connecticut in June for its first sixteen-car show of '73. In the opening round, his 7.23/197.36 beat Tom Sneden in the Bob Banning Dodge. But in round two, the Pinto lost fire on the line. |

Notes: Roy was at Maple Grove early in June for the Pennsylvania Dutch Classic. He had problems in round one, but his ailing 8.45 still won when Gary Henderson's Duster broke. He beat a wheelstanding Sammy Miller in the semifinals with a 7.03/191.48. He went up against "Jungle Jim" Liberman in the final. It was Liberman who had helped Roy get his ride in the "Frantic Ford." A final round 7.09/198.23 finished runner-up to Jim's 6.64/217. Later that month, he was in New England for a ten-car show. Unfortunately, he lost to Tom Sneden, driving the "Bob Banning" Dodge car in the first round. On the 24th, Roy was back at Maple Grove for the third NHRA Division 1 race. He qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field with a 7.33 and lost early in eliminations. He did well at Connecticut's Summer Funny Car Championships in July. He beat Jim Maybeck in the opening round with a 7.03/191, but he lost in round two. He had a little luck on his side as Liberman had broken after winning his second-round race, which reinstated the "Frantic Ford" for the semifinals. Harris ran his best time of the day in the semifinal, a 6.96/196.50, but he lost to Pete Hill's 6.90/218. He competed at the CARS Magazine Championships but tossed a blower in the first round while losing to Charlie Therwhanger. His next stop was at the Dixie Classic at Suffolk. A 6.88/213 in the first round, beat Jake Crimmins, but he lost in the next round. |

Notes: There were lots of Pintos running around the country's dragstrip's in '74. But in the Pro classes, almost all were in Pro Stock. There were very few Pinto Funny Car's built. Joe Mundet and Al Hanna of Connecticut teamed up on this one which was first class all the way. Revell sponsored the car which was called the "Revell Eastern Raider.” It used a 120" chassis from Rollie Lindblad. The Pinto body came from J&E Fiberglass. The team used two engines, a stock-stroke 426 Hemi and a 484 stroker from Keith Black for the meets with the big money on the line. The 38% overdriven GMC 6/71 was prepared by Fred Spell. Up top sat an Enderle fuel injection that was fed 92% nitro by a Hilborn fuel pump. The heads were done by Bob Beaulieu. The power was put through a Lenco transmission to a 4.10 rear. | Al qualified #10 at the NHRA Gatornationals with a 6.829/209.79, but his 6.976/211.26 lost to Don Prudhomme’s 6.85/170 in round one. Al did not qualify at the Summernationals (no time), at Indy with his best national event ET of the year at 6.780/207.37, and at the World Finals (no time). Al also ran 6.80 at Budds Creek, MD. This '74 Pinto was destroyed after going off the top end at Englishtown. He ran Indy and Ontario in their new Mustang II that was featured in the April '75 issue of DRUSA. |
