Notes: After running a very successful unblown injected 354 '55 Chrysler-engined B gas dragster in '59, they mounted a blower on a '58 Chrysler 454 motor in '60 to run in A/GD. They broke an axle on their first outing at San Antonio on Jan. 3 but still took a class win, coasting across the finish at 120 mph. They took Top Eliminator at the season-opener at Caddo Mills on Mar. 13. By August, their partnership may have dissolved as most articles after that didn't mention Mabry and Hunt was driving his own dragster, but that needs confirmation. Notes: Chrisman was at Lions on Jun 20 when he made a pretty amazing run. As he was nearing the lights, the pressure plate blew, which threw off both chains. The car still ran 9.04/154.63.; At the start of the year, Wayne Reed, from Long Beach, joined the others, bringing with him a new motor. On Jan 18 at Lions, they were breaking Reed's new engine, only recording best times of 10.27 and 148.27 mph, but still managed to win Top Eliminator. On Jan 25 at Lions, the engine was doing better, and they clocked 9.63. Photo: George Klass Collection - MB

Notes: Set both ends of the record at the start of NHRA National Record certification: Atco, NJ, 7/13/60 at 9.066/168.85.; He regularly raced at York U.S. 30-almost weekly except for occasional forays elsewhere. At York, on June 4, he turned 8.95 at 169.00 mph. The following week at York, he took Top Eliminator at 169.811 mph with a national record time of 8.84. This accomplishment and beating Tommy Ivo at a match race at York on July 3 with a time of 8.87 at 169.00 mph brought him a measure of national recognition. Minnesota Dragways paid him to appear to race against Bruce Norman and the Big Wheel dragster on July 31. A week later, at Petersburg Airport in Virginia, Tucci was racing the A/Comp Austin Bantam coupe of the Lickliter Brothers. Tucci took the win, but things went awry with his opponent's vehicle behind him. A clutch explosion started several things happening that resulted in the coupe being unable to steer or stop. It plowed into the rear of Tucci's slowing car. Tucci suffered severe spinal injuries, paralyzing him from the waist down. Although confined to a wheelchair, Bilbow built another dragster that he drove with Tucci serving as his crew chief. At the end of the year, they took the new dragster on a West Coast barnstorming tour. Photo: George Klass Collection - MB

Notes: Said to be the first major non-automotive sponsor in drag racing. - BP; On Apr. 8, this car debuted at Pomona as the Armstrong & Williams B/D, with Hal Williams driving. The engine was an Ardun-Merc. On May 6, again at Pomona, Maurice Richer had joined the team, and the Ardun-Merc was replaced with a 341ci Chrysler Hemi. It ran as the Armstrong-Richer & Williams Nesbitt's Orange Special. But after that race, Williams dropped out of the picture. Armstrong and Richer traded driving throughout the '56 season. They both did very well. Armstrong's finest moments included winning Top Eliminator at Pomona at the Chrysler-engined dragster's first outing on May 6. He took Top Eliminator at Pomona in July at the Southern California Championships on July 1. He won Top Eliminator at San Gabriel on July 4. He set a track ET record at San Gabriel on Oct. 7. Notes: After his spectacular 1958 season, setting a world record twice for gas dragsters, Brown raced less frequently in 1959. He began the year at San Fernando on May 3, turning 160.42 mph. It was not accepted as a world record as he got to the track too late to run in eliminations, the requirement for it to be officially recognized. Dick Harryman, from Granada Hills, who built the engine, continued getting even more horsepower out of the motor. On July 5, he took Top Eliminator at San Fernando with a 9.26 at 156 mph. At San Gabriel on July 11, he got Top Speed with 157 mph. Newspapers also reported that he was running a sidewinder dragster in July. He died at Lions on Sep. 12 while testing Ronnie Scrima's dragster. Photo: George Klass Collection - MB

Notes: They built a new '57 engine (Drag News, 1/9/60, reported that it was just one of the two motors) for their 2-engined dragster to begin the season. They put Algon injectors on both motors. They ran at Lions with the new set-up on Jan. 3, taking Top Eliminator with 9.20 at 161.87 mph. They ran successfully in three other races at Lions before listing the dragster for sale in the 4/16/60 issue of Drag News. They advertised its sale with or without an engine as they were building a new 3-engined 4-wheel drive dragster. Photo: George Klass Collection - MB

Notes: On Aug. 23 at the Mar-Car 1,000-Foot Invitational at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds, 23-year-old Willie Snyder was beaten during early rounds of eliminations by Howard Johansen's twin-Chevy dragster. He turned 153 mph. Snyder and Lee Pendleton were in their second year running the old Green Monster No. 6 they had bought from the Arfons brothers. The following week on Aug. 28, the opening day of the 3-day ITA drag racing championships at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds, Willie Snyder ran off the strip at 138 mph. He barely missed a telephone pole but got back on the track safely. The timing distance for all racers was 1,000 feet. On his final run that day, he turned 8.42 at 152.80 mph. Bilbow took over the driving duties, but Tucci, who used a wheelchair, did his tuning. In one of Bilbow's first outings at York U.S. 30 on Sep. 10, he clocked 9.27 at 163.636 mph. Two weeks later, at York, he got Top Eliminator with 9.18 at 166.66 mph as one of the country's top ten gas dragsters, Bilbow and Tucci decided to take the dragster out to Southern California for a few weeks. They raced at Colton, Fontana, and Lions. At Fontana, Bilbow set a strip Top Speed record of 173.74 mph at 9.31, their most successful run on the tour. Photo: George Klass Collection - MB
