Notes: Jerry started the season by qualifying #11 with a 7.39/187.65 at the Winternationals. He improved to a 7.38/187.22 in the first round, that beat Bruce Allen. In the second round, he ran a 7.40/186.14 that lost to Warren Johnson's 7.35/187. The next race was at Houston for the Supernationals. Eckman just made the field with a 7.37 for the bump spot (#16). He lasted until the second round where despite running a strong 7.32 he lost to Allen's 7.30. The Gatornationals didn't go so well as he failed to qualify. He rebounded by qualifying #9 in Atlanta for the Southern Nationals, but that set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Bob Glidden which he lost. He failed to qualify at the next two races, the Mid-South Nationals and the Cajun Nationals. At the Springnationals, as mentioned above, he qualified #11. He lost in the first round, to WJ. It was then on to Canada for the Grandnationals where he ran a 7.41/185.95 to qualify #9 again and setting up another first-round meeting with Glidden. In that race, a 7.45/185.45 lost to Bob's 7.38/185. At the Summernationals, Jerry qualified #10 with a 7.41/186.25. He lost to Darrell Alderman in the first round. He went to Maryland International for the US Pro Stock Open the next day (July 10). A 7.56/183.15 qualified #8 in the sixteen-car field. In the first round, he ran a 7.50/183.15 to beat Joe Sway's 7.62/181. But in round two he fell to WJ's 7.48/182 with a 7.55/183.00. Eckman did really well at Denver for the Mile High Nationals. He didn't qualify that well with a 7.91/173.31 grabbing the #12 position. But in the first round, he beat Gene Fasching, and in round two he beat Kenny Delco's 8.08/172 with a 7.93/172. In the semifinals, he knocked off Rickie Smith with a 7.92/172 to Smith's 7.94. But in the final, he needed a tenth, a 7.93 fell to Glidden's 7.83. It was a shot in the arm that the team needed since they had not been beyond the second round all season. The next race was the California Nationals; Jerry qualified #10 with a 7.37. He advanced past the first-round with a 7.45/185.37 when Don Beverley broke. A round two 7.45/185.52 beat Alderman's quicker 7.44/186, but in the semifinal, he ran a consistent 7.46/184.08 that lost to a WJ holeshot 7.48/185. The NHRA tour shifted to Seattle for the Seafair Nationals where a 7.42/185.60 qualified on the bump. In the first round, both he and Butch Leal ran 7.41 with Leal getting the win. The team was down at the Northstar Nationals when a best of 7.54/182.33 was only good for the sixth alternate. The bad luck continued at Indy for the US Nationals when a best of 7.442/186.29 failed to qualify ((9th alternate) D.W. The next event was the Keystone Nationals and for the third straight race, he failed to make the show. A best of 7.44/185.49 was twelfth alternate. He wasn't running all that bad, but the bump at Maple Grove was a 7.40. Things didn't go any better at the next two races, the Chief Nationals and the Fallnationals, where he failed to qualify at both meets. He did make the field at the season-ending World Finals when a 7.38/186.72 grabbed the #9 position. He lost to Larry Morgan in the first round. | Rick Howard photo from 1989 NHRA Budweiser Springnats, Columbus, Ohio. (Qualified 11th at 7.42/184.84. Lost to Warren Johnson in round one, despite improved speed of 185.75).

Notes: What a difference a year makes. At the '89 Winternationals, Don qualified #1 with a 7.33, but at Pomona for the '90 event, his best of 7.40/187.50 was good for the first alternate. He failed to qualify at the next few NHRA races, the Arizona Nats, where another 7.40 at 186.10 was the second alternate, and at the Super Nationals at Baytown (where his 7.40/186.48 was the twelfth alternate). Another 7.40 at 186.02 (second alternate) missed the show at the Gatornationals. He was the fifth alternate at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational with a 7.40/186.64, and he failed to make the cut in Atlanta for the Southern Nationals, where he was the eighth alternate at 7.36/187.96. His best times of the year were 7.310/188.20 at NHRA Ennis Fall.

Notes: Frank qualified #10 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.26/189.63. He lost to Bruce Allen in the first round. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he ran 7.29/188.71 to qualify #9. In the first round, he improved to a 7.26/189.75 to beat Bob Glidden's 7.34/189. He lost to Jerry Eckman in the second round when he fouled away a 7.33/188.44. He was disappointed at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals when his best of 7.27/188.83 failed to qualify (second alternate). At the NHRA Gatornationals, he just made the field, running 7.23/190.83 for the "bump" spot. In the first round, a 7.21/190.71 lost to low qualifier Scott Geoffrion's 7.16/192. He was at Rockingham in April for the NHRA Winston Invitational. He qualified #14 with a 7.28/189.83, but he again lost in the first round, this time to Warren Johnson. Iaconio qualified #7 at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals with a 7.26/189.51. An off pace 7.49/172.64 lost in the first round, to Lewis Worden's 7.28/188. After that, it was off to Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, where his 7.35/189.35 best was good for the fifth alternate. The seventh NHRA race of the season was the Springnationals in June. Frank qualified #13 for the show with a 7.33/188.71, but he lost to WJ in the first round. Frank must have been getting sick of losing early by this time, but the rut continued in Canada at the NHRA Grandnationals. He qualified #10 with a 7.28/190.43, but once again, he lost in the first round, when he slowed to a 7.67/147.29 that lost to Jim Yates' 7.24/191. His best NHRA ET was 7.190 at Seattle. Frank also went 191.24 at Seattle and Maple Grove but ran it at Sonoma first.

Notes: Dester's best of 7.42/186.14 failed to qualify at Pomona for the Winternationals, only being good enough for the third alternate. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he was the eighth alternate with a 7.55/182.62 best. He made the show at Houston, where his 7.32/185.87 qualified #13 for the NHRA Supernationals. Unfortunately, another 7.32 at 186.88 lost to Bruce Allen's 7.27/189 in the opening round. The NHRA Gatornationals was a brutal show to qualify in, and Dester didn't. His 7.49/182.88 best, while only a tenth off the 7.39 "bump," was good for the twentieth alternate. He did not go to Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational but was at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, where he was the eighteenth alternate with a 7.54/181.67. The Houston times were Dester's best of the year.

Notes: Lucinda didn't attend the first two NHRA events of the season, but she was at Houston for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals in March. She qualified #14 with a 7.24/190.79, but lost to Jerry Eckman in the first round. McFarlin did not run another NHRA race until the Mid-South Nationals where she qualified #15 with a 7.31/189.59. That was pretty impressive as she out qualified the likes of Bob Glidden, Rickie Smith, Frank Iaconio, and Joe Lepone just to name a few. In the opening round, her 7.34/188.95 beat Don Beverley's 7.44/191. But in round two she lost to Harry Scribner.

Notes: Runner-up to Bob Glidden at Houston Supernationals 3/89. Finished number 7 in the world in 1988, but finished out of the top ten in 1989. Morris started the NHRA season by qualifying #6 at the Winternationals with a 7.37. Another 7.37/185.68 beat Joe Lepone's 7.39/186 in the first round. He improved to a 7.35/186.76 in the second round to beat Larry Morgan's 7.35/186. In the semifinal, he fell off to a 7.66/183.37 that lost to Frank Iaconio's 7.39/185. He bettered that finish at the next event, the Supernationals, where he runner-upped to Bob Glidden. Bob's 7.25/190 Low ET and Top Speed of the meet stopped his 7.31/187.69 in the final. Morris qualified #3 with a 7.31. At the Gatornationals, with 50 cars attempting to qualify, Morris was #6. He lost to Rickie Smith in the first round. He took another first-round loss in Atlanta for the Southern Nationals where he qualified #10 with a 7.41/184.88 and lost to Warren Johnson. Things didn't go much better at the next NHRA event, the Mid South Nationals at Memphis. He qualified #10 again with a 7.37/186.06 and once again lost to WJ in the first round, only this time Morris fouled against him. He got past the first-round at the Cajun Nationals after qualifying #10 with a 7.47/183.55. He beat Joe Lepone in the first round, before losing to Larry Morgan's 7.51 with a 7.54. A best of 7.44/184.50 failed to make the field at the Springnationals. 7.428 184.99 NHRA Indianapolis IN 9/89 (2nd Alternate)

Notes: Schmidt didn't race at NHRA's first two races of the year, but he was at Houston in March for the Supernationals. He qualified #15 with a 7.33/187.38, and in the opening round of eliminations, his 7.35/183.52 fell to the eventual winner Warren Johnson's 7.32/188. The following week (March 11), he was at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. Steve qualified #12, and a 7.42/187.20 in the opening round defeated Tim Nabors. He had one of the few 500 cubic inch cars that lasted until round two, where he lost to Rickie Smith's mountain-motored Firebird. Gainesville was his next stop for the NHRA Gatornationals. Unfortunately, he was the third alternate with a 7.40/186.60 best. He did not compete at the NHRA Winston Invitational at Rockingham, but he was at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. A 7.32/187.85 qualified #12, and his 7.40/186.02 lost to Mark Pawuk's 7.37/187 in round one. Qualified 16th at Columbus at 7.45/184.76. He lost to Larry Morgan in round one. Steve's best times of the year came in qualifying at Ennis Fall, 7.283/188.24. Rick Howard photo from 1990 NHRA Budweiser Springnats, Columbus.

Notes: Jim had been running Fords in Pro Stock for several years, but early in '90, he could only run 183 in his NHRA combination. He decided to pull the plug, and he bought Butch Leal's Willie Rells built Firebird. He did not race at NHRA's first two events of the season, but he was at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals; he failed to qualify as his 7.346/186.33 was only the fifth alternate, but his choice turned up to be wise as his first time out with the Firebird saw him run almost a tenth and a half quicker than his best had been with his Fords. At Gainesville, for the NHRA Gatornationals, he ran 7.37/186.25 to qualify #10. An opening round 7.38/185.68 lot to eventual winner Kenny Delco's 7.28/188. He went to Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational and qualified #14 with a 7.36/185.37. His 7.78/178.04 advanced when Bob Glidden fouled away a 7.26/189 against him in the first round. In round two, his 7.49/186.95 lost another converter from the blue oval, Rickie Smith's 7.34/187. He continued to run well at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. A 7.32/187.30 qualified #13. A first-round 7.43/185.10 lost to Joe Lepone's 7.39/187. Jim's best times were from NHRA Atlanta and Sonoma, respectively, although he also went 7.329 at Ennis.
