Notes: Chuck attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but his 7.444/184.76 was good for the tenth alternate spot. He tried again at the Motorcraft Nationals, where his 7.813/177.16 was twelfth alternate. Chuck did better at Houston for the Slick 50 Nationals, where he was eighth alternate with a 7.226/190.23. Echmalian skipped several events before appearing at the Texas Motorplex for the Chief Nationals. He qualified on the "bump" with a 7.252/189.47, but a first-round 7.305/189.23 lost to Warren Johnson's 7.15/193. At Pomona for the season-ending World Finals, he really picked up the pace, running a 7.195/191.57 to qualify #7. He ran 7.197 at 190.67 in the first round, but a red light accompanied it, and Lewis Worden got the win at 7.193/191.44. |

Notes: Jerry was the sixth alternate at the NHRA Arizona Nationals with a 7.35/188.04. At Houston, for the NHRA Supernationals, a great 7.15/192.06 "only" qualified #14. Tuff show! A 7.25/189.71 beat a troubled Kurt Johnson in round one. In round two, he fouled against Paul Rebeschi. Gainesville did not go well for the NHRA Gatornationals as his 7.18/190.55 was only the fifth alternate. He did not race at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. He did go to Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, but he didn't drive his car there as he was driving Rickie Smith's second Firebird instead. Haas was the first alternate there with a 7.24/191.20. He sat out quite a few races before he returned to the tour at Sonoma on August 1st for the NHRA California Nationals. Jerry's 7.24/191.65 qualified #12. His 7.33/190.07 in the opening round fell to Mark Thomas' 7.30/189. He also qualified at Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals, where his 7.23/191.32 got the "bump." He faced low qualifier Warren Johnson in round one, and his 7.25/191.28 lost to WJ's 7.14/193. |

Notes: Ingersoll was one of 43 drivers that showed up at Pomona and attempted to qualify for the NHRA Winternationals sixteen car field. He ended up at the sixteenth alternate with a 7.56/185.87 best. He was at Darlington in March for the IHRA Winternationals. Under Billy Meyer's direction, the IHRA "Mountain Motored" cars were being phased out. Thirty-six cars attempted to qualify, and only three big-engined cars made the show. Buddy's 7.45/186.72 qualified #12. He lost to one of the three "Mountain Motored" drivers in the opening round, Jerry Haas. The following week (March 20), Gainesville continued to have a large turnout of cars as 55 of the factory hot rods showed up for the NHRA Gatornationals. Unfortunately, Ingersoll's 7.442/186.95 best was the seventh alternate. Those were his best times of the year. Buddy ran 7.488/184.53 at IHRA Ennis TX 4/08/88. |

Notes: This car was featured in the February '90 issue of Super Stock, and the article claimed that Buddy had run an NHRA legal best of 7.31/188. (That run did not occur in 1989, as his best times were 7.376 at Ennis and 186.14 at Houston). The team ran a best of 7.33 a year later, so we are unsure where the cited 7.31/188 numbers took place. | Ran 7.479 183.23 NHRA Indianapolis IN 9/89 (20th Alternate). - Danny White |

Notes: Brad attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but a best of 7.28/189.51 left him as the fifth alternate for the show. He was the fifth alternate at the next NHRA event as well, when his 7.35/187.18 failed to qualify for the Motorcraft Nationals. Brad made the field at the next race, the Slick 50 Nationals at Houston, where he qualified #15 with a 7.157/190.75. A first-round 7.24/188.56 lost to eventual winner Bob Glidden's 7.16/192. Those were his best times of the year. He skipped the following few NHRA National events before showing up at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. However, a 7.32 best left him as the seventh alternate for the show. His next NHRA event was the Western Nationals held at Topeka. There, he was the eleventh alternate at 7.42/185.22. He also made it to Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals, where he failed to qualify and was the last alternate (tenth) at 7.91/174.89. The SPring Houston numbers were Brad's best of the season. |

Notes: Ken was in Seattle early in August for the NHRA Seafair Nationals. His 7.42/186.02 qualified #15, and in the first round, he caught a good light, and his 7.46/185.60 beat Mark Pawuk's better 7.44/185. In round two, an off pace 7.55/185.37 lost to Bruce Allen's 7.37/187. He was the eighth alternate at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals with a 7.55/183.29 best. At Indy, he made the show for the NHRA US Nationals, running 7.41/186.41 for the #14 spot in the field. In the opening round, he fouled away a 7.44/185.64 against Warren Johnson. WJ ran 7.39/186 to advance. The next NHRA event was the Keystone Nationals held at Maple Grove. Ken just made the show, running 7.40/186.25 to sit on the "bump." Another 7.40 at 185.87 beat Gordie Rivera's 7.42/184 in round one. But in round two, his 7.44/186.18 fell to Allen's 7.36/186. |

Notes: Photo from 1988. Leal was one of the master "leavers" in the sport. You had to be on your game when you came up against him on the lights. Butch started the season by qualifying #9 at Pomona for the Winternationals with a 7.38/187.81. He lost in the first round, with a 7.40/187.96 to Don Beverley's 7.35/186. At the Supernationals, a 7.34 qualified #6 and he lasted until round two before losing to Bob Glidden. He qualified well again at the Gatornationals with a 7.37/187.85 qualifying #8. Once again he made it into the second round before losing to Frank Iaconio. At the Southern Nationals, Leal qualified a little farther down the list with a 7.42/186.10 being only good for the #13 spot. He lost to Reid Whisnant in the first round. He qualified much better at the next NHRA event, the Mid-South Nationals at Memphis, where a 7.35/187.22 qualified #6. He beat Joe Folgore in the first round, but pushed the tree against Warren Johnson in the second round and fouled away a 7.48/187. At the season's sixth race, the Cajun Nationals, a 7.44/184.55 qualified #4. Butch beat Beverley in the first round, and a 7.51/184 advanced past a fouling Kenny Delco in round two. In the semifinal, he used a 7.49/183 to beat Larry Morgan's 7.52. In the final, he was up against Bruce Allen and he ran a consistent 7.51/183.48, but lost to Allen's strong 7.45/184. After a runner-up finish, it was strange to see Leal barely qualify with a 7.44/184.53 for the bump at the Springnationals. He lost to Don Coonce in the first round. The tour traveled to Canada for the Grandnationals where Leal used a 7.39/186.02 to qualify #4. A first-round 7.41/184.61 beat Joe Lepone, but an off pace 7.54 lost to Ken Koretsky's 7.45 in the second round. The next stop for the NHRA tour was at Englishtown for the Summernationals. Butch ran a 7.41/187.11 to qualify #9 and setting to a first-round meeting with low qualifier Glidden. In that race, Leal beat Bob with a holeshot aided 7.46/185. Unfortunately, he tried the same thing against Lepone Jr. in the second round and cut the tree too close and fouled. He then traveled to the thin air of Denver for the Mile High Nationals. He qualified #6 with a 7.86/174.45, but he lost to Rickie Smith in the first round. At the eleventh race of the season, the California Nationals, a 7.36/188.24 qualified #5. A first-round 7.38/187.53 beat Iaconio and in round two he lost to another holeshot artist in "Trickie" Rickie Smith who used a 7.43/185 to beat Leal's quicker 7.41/186.83. Seattle was the next stop for the Seafair Nationals and once again Leal qualified well with a 7.38/186.56 getting the #8 spot. He ran even better in the first round, when his 7.37/186.10 beat Jerry Eckman's 7.41/185. In round two, a 7.40/186.37 beat Morgan's game 7.43/186, but in the semifinals against WJ, butch fouled away a 7.48. At the following race, the Northstar Nationals, he used a 7.48/183.89 to qualify #11 and he beat Whisnant in the first round, but lost to Iaconio's holeshot 7.50/184 to his slightly quicker 7.49/184.54 in round two. 50 cars showed for the 16 spots at Indy for the US Nationals and Leal qualified #12 with a 7.41/186.06. A first-round 7.46/185.41 beat Kenny Delco's 7.45/185. In round two, Beverley beat him with a 7.43/185 to his 7.49/185.07. He attempted to make the field at Maple Grove for the Keystone Nationals, but a best of 7.41/186.10 was only good for third alternate. Things went better at the Texas Motorplex where a 7.33/187.26 qualified #10 for the NHRA Chief Nationals. A first-round 7.38/187.38 lost to Morgan's 7.37/188. |

Notes: Photo from 1989 Gatornationals. Morgan really picked up his pace in the '89 season. The year started at Pomona for the Winternationals where he qualified #2 with a 7.33/187.89. A first-round 7.36/187.26 beat Reid Whisnant's 7.39/186. In round two, both he and Morris Johnson Jr. ran 7.35's, but Morris got the win. At the Supernationals at Houston, a 7.29/187.26 got the pole and in the first round, he beat Mark Pawuk with a 7.30. And in the second round, he used a 7.34 to beat Warren Johnson. In the semi final against Johnson Jr., he had his line lock fail and he rolled through the beams and fouled. He didn't run that well at the Gatornationals, qualifying #12 with a 7.38/187.03 and losing to Frank Iaconio in the first round. The next event was the Southern Nationals in Atlanta. Morgan qualified #3 with a 7.35/187.65 and beat Don Beverley in the first round. In the second round, he beat Kenny Delco's 7.47/184 with a 7.38/186.87. He lost a close semifinal dual with Bob Glidden with Bob's 7.40/186 beating his 7.41/186.95. He made it into the semifinals at the next two races as well. First was the Mid South Nationals at Memphis. Larry qualified #4 with a 7.34/188.40. He beat Don Coonce in the first round, and in round two a 7.38/188 beat Nick Nikolis. Unfortunately, he napped in the semifinal, running a 7.35 and losing to WJ's 7.39. The next race was the Cajun Nationals where he qualified #6 with a 7.45/184.72. He beat Jerry Haas in the first round, and a second round 7.51/183 beat Johnson Jr.'s 7.54. In the semifinals, a 7.52 lost to Butch Leal's 7.49. He skipped over to Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals where he got yet another semifinal finish. The streak of semifinals came to an end at the Springnationals. In qualifying he ran a 7.42/186.02 that gave him the dreaded #9 spot. It set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Glidden. Larry lost the first-round race to Bob's 7.39/186. The NHRA tour traveled to Canada for the Grandnationals where Larry ran a 7.37/186.45 to qualify #2. In the first round, he lost to Beverley's 7.39/185 with a 7.44/183.15. Morgan then went to Milan, Michigan, for the IHRA Northern Nationals. He lasted until round two where he was put out by the same guy who stopped him in the semifinals of the last IHRA race, Darrell Alderman. The following week he was at Englishtown for the Summernationals. He qualified #6 with a 7.39/187.38, but lost to Ken Koretsky in the first round. The next stop was at Denver for the Mile High Nationals. Larry qualified #2 with a 7.84/176.12 (Top Speed). He beat Iaconio in the first round, before snoozing against Rickie Smith in the second round. Smith's 7.95/173 beat his much quicker 7.84. At the California Nationals, he ran a 7.37/187.81 to qualify #8. A first-round 7.38/187.14 beat Whisnant, but in round two he slowed to an off pace 7.66/178.74 that lost to WJ's 7.53/185. The next event was at Seattle International for the Seafair Nationals. Larry qualified #4 with a 7.36/186.99. He again beat Whisnant in the first round, with a 7.40/186.41 to Reid's 7.42/185. In the second round, a 7.43/186.64 lost to Leal's 7.40/186. Larry continued to qualify well at the Northstar Nationals where he qualified #4 with a 7.46/183.78. He beat Lee Dean in the first round, and a 7.46/184.75 beat Beverley's close 7.47/184. He ran another 7.46/185.03 in the semifinal, but it wasn't enough as Bruce Allen took him out with a close 7.45/185. The next race made his year, the NHRA US Nationals. He qualified #3 with a 7.35/187.03. In the first round a 7.40/186.87 beat Pawuk, in round two a 7.36/186.56 advanced when Gary Brown fouled, and a semifinal 7.40/186.41 beat Allen's 7.43/185 to set up a final round meeting with Glidden. Larry won the race with a 7.36/185.79 over Bob's 7.42/187. It was Morgan's first win of the year and since it came at Indy it was worth waiting for. He then went to Norwalk for the IHRA World Nationals and won that too. He beat a fouling Pat Musi for the win. At the next NHRA event, the Keystone Nationals at Maple Grove, he ran 7.33/187.30 to qualify #2. Both he and Joe Lepone ran 7.34's in the first round, but Morgan got the win. Another 7.34/186.64 beat Delco's 7.38/186 in round two. Unfortunately, a quicker 7.33/187.14 lost to Allen's holeshot 7.37/186 in the semi final. |

Notes: Morgan qualified #8 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.22/192.30. In the opening round of eliminations, his 7.26/190.75 lost to Bruce Allen's 7.25/190. He did much better at the NHRA Arizona Nationals. There a 7.25/190.27 qualified #7. In the first round, he improved to 7.23/190.15 to beat Jim Yates. Another 7.23 at 189.95 defeated Don Beverley's quicker 7.21/192 in round two, and Larry's 7.22/189.95 in the semi-final advanced when Kurt Johnson could not show after he had crashed while winning his second round race. He faced Mark Pawuk in the final, and Mark's 7.20/191 beat his 7.26/189.15 runner-up effort. The Pro Stock cars were flying at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, and Morgan ran a 7.14/192.71 in qualifying for the #12 spot in the field. He cut a great light in the first round, and his 7.20/190.19 held on to win over David Rampy's better 7.16/191. He pulled another holeshot win in round two, where his 7.20/190.92 beat Rusty Glidden's 7.18/191. In the semi-final, he got out on Rickie Smith, and Larry's 7.19/191.04 beat "Trickie Rickie's" 7.18/190. He faced his good friend, Bob Glidden, in the final, and somehow Morgan picked up to his best time of the weekend, a 7.14/192.63, but it wasn't enough as Glidden won with a 7.13/193. Lost quickest side-by-sider in history to Bob Glidden at Houston Slick 50 race, 7.134 to 7.140. Did Larry run a 7.096 in 1993? (Rick Howard photo from 1993 Oldsmobile SpringNats, Columbus, where Morgan was the first alternate (DNQ) with a best of 7.30/190.59.) |

Notes: Daryl Thompson was at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, but his 7.309/189.59 best was good for the fifth alternate. He then traveled to Gainesville for the Gators. His 7.362/188.83 was the 11th alternate. Those were Daryl's only two NHRA national events in 1992. |

Notes: Photo from 1992 Gators. Confirmed 7.131 at Houston 93 and 192.67 at Gainesville 3/93. Where is the 7.129 at 193.22 from? | Jim was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals where his 7.23/190.83 qualified #11. He picked up to 7.21/190.31 in the first round, but lost to a quick-leaving Mark Pawuk who won with a 7.22/191. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he qualified #10 with a 7.27/189.19. Jim's off pace 7.35/179.17 lost to Larry Morgan's 7.23/190. He then went to Houston where his 7.13/192.14 qualified #7 for the Slick 50 Nationals. In the first round his 7.24/189.91 beat Scott Geoffrion, but in round two Yates' 7.21/191.53 lost to eventual winner Bob Glidden's 7.16/192. Gainesville was the next stop on the NHRA schedule for the Gatornationals. There Jim ran 7.15/192.67 to qualify #10. He lost a close round one race to David Rampy when Yates' 7.25/189.87 lost to Rampy's 7.24/190. He was at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. A 7.17/192.30 qualified #11. In the first round, he pulled a holeshot on Bruce Allen and his 7.19/193.05 won over Allen's 7.18/193. In round two, both he and Rickie Smith ran 7.20 (Yates at 192.38) and Jim got the win light. In the semifinals, he fell off to 7.22/191.93 in a loss to Glidden's 7.17/193. Yates debuted a new Firebird at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, but it needed more track time as his best of 7.27/189.19 failed to qualify and was good for the sixth alternate. The car was able to make the field at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals in May. Jim's 7.26/189.75 got him the #15 spot. Unfortunately, a 7.36/189.43 in the first round, lost to Warren Johnson's 7.21/192. The following week (May 23), 31 cars attempted to qualify for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown. Once again, Yates qualified #15 this time with a 7.18/192.02. In round one he made an out of shape 7.39/189.67 pass that lost to Kurt Johnson's 7.26/191. He failed to qualify at the NHRA Springnationals where he was the seventh alternate with a best of 7.31/188.67. Things didn't go any better at the NHRA Western Nationals where he was the ninth alternate with a 7.40/186.72 best. Early in July, he stopped off at Maryland International for the Mountain Motor Nationals. He showed up running his 500 cubic inch NHRA combination. He failed to qualify and was the first alternate for the sixteen-car field with a 7.39/186.33. It was still pretty impressive against the 800 cubic inch cars. He was also the first alternate at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals with a 7.71/177.86. Jim got back into the show in a big way at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals where he qualified #4 with a 7.21/191.36. But in the first round, he fouled away a 7.27/189.95 against Morgan. Jim went to Woodburn for the Pro Stock Invitational. There were eighteen cars there, and they each ran two runs with the two lowest ETs meeting in the final. Yates did not run quick enough to reach the final. Seattle International was the next stop for the NHRA Northwest Nationals. Poor Yates, he was the first alternate again with a 7.23/189.91 best. It was better than at Brainerd where he was the second alternate for the NHRA Northstar Nationals with a 7.32/188.83 best. Things were looking a little shaky going into the US Nationals at Indianapolis. Jim was more than a little worried about qualifying. But he did good, running 7.23/191.24 (#7) to get into the top half of the field. He beat Vince Khoury in the first round, with a 7.25/189.99, but a consistent 7.24/189.99 in round two lost to Geoffrion's 7.18/191. |
