Notes: From Chapman Automotive in Chicago came the Chicago Patrol Mustang. Doubling as a promotional liaison for the Chicago Police Department, the car debuted in early 1975 with Allen Gillis wrenching and former Chi-Town Hustler shoe Ron Colson at the helm who soon vacated the cockpit to vagabond flopper shoe Pat Foster. - 70sfunnycars.com | Ron did not qualify at the Gatornationals and Springnationals before turning the wheel over to Foster. |

Notes: Did not NHRA in 1978. Where did Roy run the 6.20/227. Was that 1978 or 1979? | Roy was at Englishtown on May 7 for the NHRA Division One opener. In the first round of eliminations, his 6.63/203.33 lost to Bruce Larson's 6.50/220. He was at Cayuga for the next Division One race on May 21, but in the first round, both he and his opponent, Ron Colson driving the Hawaiian" broke, and they were both out of further competition. In June, he was back at Englishtown for the Crazy Eddie Night of Thrills race. In his first race, Dodger Glenn's 6.63/209 beat his 6.69/207.81, and in his second race, he got out of shape and shut off to 9.63 in a loss to Tommy Ivo's 6.35. |

Notes: Oglesby was at Darlington attempting to qualify for the eight-car field for the IHRA Winternationals. His 7.83/205 best was good for the first alternate. He got into the show when #8 qualifier Murf McKinney had some problems and could not race. Frank took his place in the show and nearly pulled off the upset. In the opening round, Oglesby's 6.96/211 beat Bob Gottschalk's 7.18. A semifinal 6.60/218 beat Denny Savage's 6.59/218. He went up against Dale Pulde in the final. It wasn't much of a race between the two as while Frank was slipping and sliding to 12.39/65, Dale was winning with a Low ET and Top Speed blast of 6.35/229. At the AHRA Ozark Nationals, Frank's 7.34/172.08 qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field. He improved to a 6.95/197 in the first round, but it wasn't enough to get past John Collins, who beat him with a 6.87/191. Shortly after that (July 23), he was at Milan Dragway for the IHRA Northern Nationals. Unfortunately, his 6.62 best (first alternate) failed to qualify for the eight-car with a 6.59 "bump." Frank was in Atlanta in October for the IHRA Winston Nationals. He lost to eventual winner Pete Williams driving the "Chi-Town Hustler" in the first round. Frank did not race in any NHRA national events in 1975. We need confirmation of the 6.40/238 times. | Spring 1977 SS&DI: John H. Johnson, Jr., son of Ebony Magazine Publisher John Johnson, temporarily threw in with Oglesby on his car. No national tour or even updating the car, probably local expenses, but this is still a highly unlikely venture. I saw a picture of the car. - Joe Moore |

Notes: The Grand Am was getting a repaint by Bill Carter before the start of the season. While the team did not race at the AHRA Winternationals, Pulde qualified #2 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 6.35/222.77. He beat Mike Mitchell in the first round, with a 6.44/217.39, but in round two, he smoked the tires and shut off to 9.79/79.29 in a loss to Dale Emery's 6.46/223 in the "Jeg's" Camaro. Early in March, he was at Amarillo for a best of three match against Gene Snow. The Pontiac won all three races with times of 6.80,6.71 and 6.76. Snow was not far off as his best was 6.72. Pulde's best speed was 203. The team also did not race at the NHRA Gatornationals. On March 23, the M/T car was at Irwindale's Fox Hunt race. It was an eight-car field, and Pulde's 6.66 qualified #6. He the Leroy Goldstein, who was driving the "Mr. Ed" Satellite, had a really close first-round battle that saw Dale's 6.93/215.82 defeat Leroy's similar,6.93/210. He slowed to 7.08/191.89 in a loss to eventual winner Bob Pickett's 6.69/217 in the "Lil Demon" in the semifinal. He won the Seattle Opener in April, stopping Twig Zeigler's 6.48/219 in the final with a 6.49/220. In June, Pulde was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. He qualified #11 and an off-pace 7.42/157.61 in the opening round lost to Kosty Ivanof's 6.61/192. The following week (June 14), he was at Byron's Manufacturer's Meet. It wasn't a good outing. His 6.85/191.08 fell to Tom McEwen's 6.86/201 in the first round, and in the second, the car caught fire in his race against Denny Savage. A valve cover gasket had failed, and oil got onto the headers causing the fire. Dale got it stopped ok, and there was little damage other than scorched paint. Not long after that, he was in Connecticut for an eight-car show. A 6.73/209.30 beat Fred Goeske's 6.90/210 in the opening round, but the car broke and could not run after that. They did not run at either the NHRA Summernationals or the Grandnationals, but they were at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals. Pulde ran 6.44/220.04 to qualify #7. Despite improving to 6.36/220.04 in round one, he lost to Pat Foster's 6.31/221 in John Lombardo's Vega. The next stop was at Ontario Motor Speedway for the NHRA World Finals. Until this time, the car was not setting the world on fire as far as its performance went, but this race changed all that. Dale ran 6.38/224.43 to qualify #6. In the first round, he improved a bit, running 6.33 at just 201.79 to beat Pickett's 6.87/175. Everything changed in round two; his outstanding 6.16/233.76 (Low ET and Top Speed) dumped Don Prudhomme's 6.49/178. This changed everything for Shirl Greer, who had been fighting with Prudhomme for the points championships. Pulde's beating the "Snake" gave Greer the hard-fought title. In the semifinal, Dale banged out another stout number, a 6.17/233.76, but he was late off the line, and he finished second best to Dave Condit's 6.19/226 in the "Plueger and Gyger" Mustang. Condit would go on to win the race. A week later (October 20), Pulde went to Fremont for its National Open. It was an eight-car field. The M/T Pontiac was running well there as well as he set Low ET and Top Speed in the opening round with his 6.38/228.21 beating Prudhomme's 6.41. Beating the "Snake" two weeks in a row was pretty much unheard of. Pulde lasted to the final, where he was to face Roger Garten in the "Warhorse" Mustang. But Dale had a supercharger explosion on the line, and Garten won the rave with a 6.61. Irwindale held its Team Funny Car Championships the next week, and Pulde ran well. A 6.42/205 beat Snow in the opening round. He then lost to Tom Hoover in his second race. Garten fouled against him in his third race. Set new world record for funny cars at 1974 Supernationals / World Finals at Ontario: 6.16/233.76. - RT | Yellow, red, black versions. Also was painted in red this season (raced at Indy '74 in that livery). - CS | Ran 6.44 at Fremont, 6.35 at Pomona, 6.36 at Indy. |
