Notes: McClenathan qualified low at Pomona for the NHRa Winternationals with a 4.77/300.40. In the first round, he slowed to 4.96/289.38 in a loss to Joe Amato's 4.75/298. Cory also qualified low at the NHRA Arizona Nationals with a 4.75/304.87 (Top Speed).In the opening round, his 4.90/296.15 defeated Tommy Johnson Jr's 5.00/279. In the second round, his 4.82/297.61 took out Scott Kalitta's 4.83/298. He then set Low ET in the semi-final with a 4.74/298.70 over Scott's dad, Connie Kalitta, who followed him through at a career-best 4.80/298. He faced Amato in the final, and Cory picked up the win with a 4.98. He "only" qualified #5 at Houston for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals with a 4.79/298.11. He beat Pat Austin in the first round while setting Top Speed at 304.98. In the second round, his 4.84/296.73 fell to eventual winner Don Prudhomme's 4.87/285.McClenathan qualified on top again at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 4.80/294.59. He was upset in the opening round, where his 4.97/288.92 lost to Jim Head's 4.88/293. In April, he was at Rockingham for the NHRA Invitational race. This was just an eight-car show, and his 4.89/293.82 qualified #7. In the first round, he beat Pat Austin's 4.94/294 with a 4.90/290.88. Johnson smoked the tires against him in the semi-final, and Cory advanced with a 4.95/287.72. He faced Prudhomme in the final, and despite a quicker 4.90/295.08, he lost to Don's quick-leaving 4.94/288. Jim Hawkins' DragStats confirm ET and speed. Notes: Shorty body. Marvin really upped his act for '77. After a few years of just "being there," this season, he ran hard and was definitely noticed. The year started with Schwartz running 6.36 to qualify #3 at Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals. He beat Tom Dumbell in the first round, with a 6.67/198.22, but in the second round, he got crossed-up and shut off against Rance McDaniel. He failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals and at the Gatornationals, but at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals, he qualified #6 in the eight-car field. Marvin beat John Speelman in the first round before losing to eventual winner Paul Longenecker's 6.54 with a 6.99. In June, he was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. A strong 6.070/221.69 qualified #6 in the sixteen-car show, but he was shut off on the line with a fuel leak in round one. He then went to Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals, where he qualified #11. An opening round 6.14/220.04 beat Clayton Harris's better 6.07/233, and a second-round 6.20 beat Lee Weller's 6.28 in the "Jim and Allison Lee" car. In the semifinals, he had problems and slowed to a 9.32 loss to Longenecker's 6.10. Early in July, he went to Union Grove to attempt to qualify for the eight-car field at the IHRA Summernationals. Unfortunately, his 6.29 best just missed the 6.28 "bump." He also failed to qualify at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals (fourth alternate but no times reported; the third alternate ran 6.31). Shortly after, he was at Suffolk for the NHRA Division Two race. Only six cars showed, and his 6.46 qualified #4. He lost to low qualifier and eventual winner Don Garlits in the opening round. Marvin also ran a 6.260/227.84 eleventh alternate DNQ at NHRA Indianapolis. That was his last NHRA national event of the year.

Grant was at Englishtown on May 4 for the NHRA Division One opener. He qualified #1 for the eight-car field with a 5.98/240.00 (Low ET and Top Speed). But he was upset in round one, where Bob Simmons stepped up to a 5.99/227 to beat his hard-charging 6.27/240.00. Stoms failed to qualify at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals with a 6.17/220 best. In July, the team ran a strong 5.910/242.58 #qualifier at NHRA Englishtown. Grant beat Paul Longenecker in round one, 6.28/210.77 to 6.77/163, but lost to Richard Tharp in round two, 6.03/243 to 6.27/214.79. Grant qualified #3 at Sanair at 6.15/233.76. Notes: Tom and Grant came out for their last NHRA national event season in 1987 with appearances at Englishtown and Maple Grove. They were the third alternate at E-Town at 5.643/244.49 and did not get to race. They were the second alternate at Maple Grove at 5.993/190.47 but did make it into the show. There, they lost to Darrell Gwynn, 5.30/259 to 5.804/233.03. After this season, Tom went to work on Wall Street. Notes: Ray attempted to qualify at Pomona for the Winternationals, but a best of 5.88/238.09 was good for the fifth alternate. He also failed to qualify at the Bakersfield March (May) meet with a 5.80/233.16 best, the first alternate. A 5.71/238.91 qualified #11 at Baton Rouge for the Cajun Nationals, but even though he improved to a 5.64/242.58 in the first round, he lost to Joe Amato's holeshot 5.66/255. At the Springnationals, Ray qualified #12 with a 5.70/226.24, and in the first round, a 5.78/203.90 beat Hank Endres' 5.78/203. A second round 5.73/233.22 beat Jody Smart's 5.79/246. Stutz smoked the tires in the semifinals to a 9.14 loss to Amato's 5.60/253. The team continued to improve, and it showed at the Summernationals, where Ray qualified #13 with a 5.569/242.58. Notes: Dave was at Sacramento on June 18 for the NHRA Division Seven race. He qualified #3 for the twelve-car field with a 6.01/233.17. An opening round 6.02/233.17 beat Jim Murphy's 6.32/208. In round two, he soloed with a 5.94/232.56 when Shorty Leventon failed to show. In the semifinals, he picked up to 5.90 (Low ET) at 236.23 to beat the always tough James Warren, who lost with a 6.21/182. He faced Larry Sutton in the final and ran another 5.90 at 235.61 for the victory over Larry's 6.23/212. The team debuted on the NHRA tour at Indy in a big way. They qualified #1 at 5.840/246.57, which held up as Low ET and Top Speed. Dave lost a close one to Don Garlits in round three. He ran 5.96/245.23 at Seattle for Low qualifier, Low ET and Top Speed. He was runner up there to Rob Bruins. Dave was the sixth member of the NHRA 250 mph Club on October 7, 1978, at the Ontario World Finals with a 5.820/250.00 #2 qualifying effort. He shared Top Speed with Gary Beck, who had run 5.763/250.00 before him. Rob Bruins took a close 5.95 to 5.98 win over Dave in round two. This 250 mph run is often mistakenly credited at Ontario 1979.
