Notes: Ed qualified #4 at the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.73/253.52. In the first round, his 5.82/240.64 lost to Dale Pulde's 5.69/250. Luck was on the "Ace's side at the NHRA Gatornationals. He didn't qualify very well, with a 5.98/233.16 (#14). He went on to win the race by beating Brad Tuttle in the first round, where they both ran 5.74 (Ed at 257.58). In round two, his troubled 6.67/197.36 advanced when Mark Oswald boiled the hides in the "Candies and Hughes" car. His tire-smoking, off-pace 6.22/234 beat Scott Kalitta in the semifinals, putting him in the final against another long-time veteran, Tom McEwen. The "Mongoose" had to be considered the favorite based on his 5.67 in the semifinals. Unfortunately, McEwen broke, and the race never came off, so Ed singled for the title with an 11.25/69.63. Due to the Gatornationals being rain-delayed from March 16 to 23, Ed could not run at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals as they were booked on the same day. He did make IHRA's second race, the Bayou Nationals, on April 13. He made it into the final before losing to Mark Oswald in the "Candies and Hughes" car. A week later, he was at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. Ed qualified #7 with a 5.86/256.41. He won, but once again, good old racing luck played a part. He beat McEwen in the first round, and in round two, his 6.02/242 got around Billy Meyer's 6.12/244 in a tire-smoking contest. In the semifinals, he advanced with a 5.95/252.10 when the "Blue Max," with John Lombardo on board, broke a transmission. In the final, the "Ace" lined up with Jim Head. Jim had been having his share of problems, running 6.22 and 8.38 in the previous two rounds. The two left together in the final, and Ed got the victory with a 6.00/247.52 over Head's right there 6.00/250. It was a short field at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun National in June. The sixteenth qualifier ran 11.84 and still made the show! McCulloch qualified #14 with a 6.54/168.28. He slowed to a 6.65/162.68 in the first round, which lost to Kalitta's 5.80/252. Crewchief Bernie Fedderly was still having trouble dialing in the car at the NHRA Springnationals on June 15. A best of 6.00/231.12 qualified #12, but Ed lost to McEwen in the first round. A week later (June 22), the team was at St. Louis for the IHRA Gateway Nationals. Once again, McEwen beat him, but this time it was in the semifinals. Only twelve cars showed for the eliminator at the NHRA Grandnationals, so qualifying was easy. Ed qualified #9 with a 5.92/249.03. His first-round 5.94/250.69 lost to Johnny West's 5.78/234 in the "Hawaiian." July opened with the team at Milan, Michigan, for the IHRA Northern Nationals. A 5.91/247.93 qualified #3 in the eight-car field. Ed got a measure of satisfaction in the first round, when his 6.01/245.90 beat a tire-smoking McEwen. But in the semifinals, he lost to Oswald. At Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, Fedderly tuned the car to a 5.88/244.69 in qualifying (#13). But in round one, the "Mongoose" McEwen stopped him. Ed qualified really well at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. His 5.87/234.19 got the #4 spot in the thin air. Unfortunately, he again lost in the first round, this time to Steve Hodkinson. By this time, the team needed something good to happen. And it did. They rolled into Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals in the middle of August. Ed qualified so-so with a 5.88/249.30 for the #8 spot in the show. He beat Della Woods in the first round, with a 5.96/241.93. A 5.86/254 beat West in round two, and his 5.98/252 beat a tire-smoking Oswald in the semifinals. That put him in the final with his nemesis McEwen. Ed had problems and shut off to a 22.44/30.82 while Tom motored to the victory with a 5.81/254. Still, it was a good showing for the "Miller American" team. There was one more stop before Indy, which was at Norwalk for the IHRA World Nationals. Ed qualified #6 in the eight-car show and beat Head in round one, before losing to eventual winner Kenny Bernstein in the semifinals. Then it was on to Indy for the NHRA US Nationals. Ed always ran well at Indy, but not so much in '86. He qualified on the "bump" with a 5.88/245.73. In the first round, he survived a tire-smoking battle with Craig Epperly that saw Ed's 6.41/243 beat Craig's quicker 6.34/220. In the second round, McCulloch ran 5.92/226.52, but it wasn't enough, as he lost to Oswald's 5.64/260. The following week (September 7), he was at Rockingham for the IHRA US Open. He qualified #4, but he lost in round one. The team then went to Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals. Ed's 5.80/251.04 qualified #6. Another 5.80 at 246.30 beat Jerry Caminito's 5.91/235 in the opening round. In round two, eventual winner Oswald ran 5.65/262 to beat McCulloch's 5.85/235.17.

Notes: Glenn qualified #1 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.33. He made his way into the final by having a first-round tire smoking battle with Wyatt Radke that he won with a 7.89/220.53 to Wyatt's 8.07/106. In the second round, another 5.33 at 279.24 beat Richard Hartman's 5.50/272 and in the semifinals, he set Low ET and Top Speed with a 5.289/284.00 that beat Mike Dunn's 5.39/266. In the finals he ran John Force and Glenn had problems and slowed to a 5.87/182.70 that finished runner-up to Force's 5.31/239. Glenn lost to Mike Dunn in the second round at the NHRA Arizona Nationals where his 5.35/280 lost to Mike's 5.36/274. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, a 5.30 qualified #5, but he again lost in round two. This time his 5.35/285.26 lost to Force's 5.27/275. Earlier, Mikres had set Top Speed of the meet at 286.25. The team didn't qualify as well at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals only getting the #12 spot in the field, but Glenn beat Jerry Caminito's 5.85/197 in the first round, with a 5.42/261.62. A second round 5.49/266.82 lost to Mike Dunn's 5.34/264. Best NHRA times were the 5.289/286.25.

Notes: Won Winston Invitational in 1992. Made history in round one at Ennis, when Mark Oswald powered to the best Funny Car speed ever, 5.163/293.06, in beating Dale Pulde. Mark also went 5.161 at Seattle and 5.188/290.79 at Maple Grove. We think he drove the Petosa Bros. car exclusively starting in Gainesville (he definitely drove it there). The team qualified well at every event but suffered terrible consistency problems on race day, leaving them first or second-round losers for most of the year. We need to confirm that he did not run the In-N-Out Cutlass at any of the other late-season NHRA events.

Notes: Rookie Year, NHRA Champ in 1992 (winning 5 straight races). Also first funny car in the 5.0 zone with a 5.077 qualifier at Maple Grove 9/92, followed by a 5.076 in eliminations. | Cruz started the season by qualifying #2 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.20/287.08 (Top Speed). He beat Gordon Mineo in the first round, with a 5.22/286.89, but in round two, his Cutlass broke against Mark Sievers. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he qualified #4 with a 5.34/279.06. A 5.33/269.78 beat Jerry Caminito in round one, but in round two his engine let go on the line against Johnny West. After breaking in the second round at the first two NHRA events, Pedregon did much better at Houston for the Supernationals. In qualifying, his 5.34/268.41 got him the #8 spot. He improved to 5.29/252.52 in the first round, over Chuck ETchell's quicker 5.26/272. Another holeshot in round two made his 5.18/276.66 a winner over John Force's 5.15/287. Then he really opened some eyes when he reset the NHRA National Record 5.10 at 272.89 in the semifinals to beat A Hofmann's 5.23/273. This put Cruz in the final against veteran, Mineo. A 5.14/284.62 backed up his 5.10 for the record and it was enough to give Pedregon his first NHRA Funny Car Eliminator victory. There was no sneaking up on the field for the NHRA Gatornationals after that, performance. At Gainesville a 5.26/275.98 qualified #4. His 5.20/285.08 beat Paula Martin's 5.37/271 in round one, while a second round 5.21/285.71 beat ETchell's quicker, but later 5.17/281. In the semifinals, crew chief Bernie Fedderly dialed in a little too much horsepower for Cruz's race against Force. As a result, Pedregon smoked the tires to a 5.31/242.78 loss to Force's 5.20/286. There were no points on the line at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational in April. Cruz set a track record 5.26 at 277.26 in qualifying #1 for the eight-car field. Unfortunately, the gremlins persisted and Pedregon broke in the first round. Atlanta was the next stop for the NHRA Southern Nationals. Once again, Cruz qualified #1 with a track record 5.15 at 282.57. It was strange to see his former crew chief, Fedderly helping Force's team for the first time. Pedregon advanced past Freddie Neely in the first round, with a 5.55/239.04 before smoking the tires in round two and losing to Force. He was low man at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals with a 5.26/272.97. His 5.30/269.38 beat Norm Wilding, but he lost to Whit Bazemore in round two. It was then off to Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. He qualified #2 with a 5.24/277.69 behind Etchells' 5.23. But in round one, he set Low ET and Top Speed with track records of 5.17/288.00 to beat Jim Epler. A 5.21/286.62 beat Tom Hoover in round two while a semifinal 5.29/283.19 took out Del Worsham's close 5.31/275. This set up a final against Hofmann. Cruz fouled against Al in the final and shut off to a 6.57/132.29 while Hofmann got the victory with a 5.31/263.

Notes: Cruz Pedregon started the NHRA season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He set Low ET and Top Speed in qualifying #1 with a 4.935/307.06. An opening round 5.08/296.06 beat Gary Densham, and in round two, his 5.12/299.10 took out Dale Pulde. He faced John Force in the semifinals, and Cruz smoked the tires and lost to John's 5.25/298. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, his 5.17 qualified #4, but he fouled against Kenji Okazaki in the first round. Only sixteen cars showed at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, so qualifying wasn't an issue - Pedregon's 5.16/300.30 got him the #8 spot in the field. In round one, he beat Whit Bazemore with a 5.21/268.89, followed by a second round 5.11/297.02 that advanced over a fouling Al Hofmann. But in the semifinals, he and Force had a good race that saw Force's 5.08/300 outrun Cruz's 5.13/301.30.
