Notes: We need to confirm best times. | The car has Hilborn injectors feeding a wild Chevy that gets valve action from an Engle #251 stick with buckets by JE of the forged variety. Stock Chevy rods ride on the crankshaft Co. 3 and 3/4 arm pumping to a 9:1 ratio. Headers are owner built, mag is one of Joe Hunt's Vertex. Charlie bombs out in "Plain Vanilla" an 1185 pound stomper that seems plain only after it tears out of the gate. The frame is 1 and 3/4 mild steel tube. The T rides on H&M rear Pirelli rubber front, all four on Halibrand mags. Carter cross-form chute aids rear-only binders from a 49 Lincoln. Ross steering controls torsion bar front suspension on 96" in wheelbase rig witch is driven by 4.30:1 rear end through a Weber 11-inch dual-disc clutch assembly. - Jeff McDowell |

Notes: The "Boyd and Griffith" team was one of 27 Top Fuel teams attempting to qualify at Austin, Texas, on May 18 for an eight-car Texas Pro Fuel Circuit race. Unfortunately, the team had a supercharger explode in qualifying, and they failed to make the field. On June 9, they were at Tulsa for another Texas Pro Fuel Circuit race. It was a sixteen-car field, and 26 cars were trying to get in this time. Griffith's 7.41/197.36 qualified #4. The team lost early in eliminations. Wayne was at Amarillo in July for the Texas Championships. It was an eight-car field, and his 7.59/205.46 qualified on the "bump." In the opening round, his 7.74 lost to eventual winner Jimmy Nix's 7.42. Shortly after that (July 20), the team was at Green Valley Raceway for a sixteen-car show. A 7.26 qualified #3, but Wayne lost early in eliminations. Is this Louis Boyd of Boyd's Machine? He also ran 6.99 at GVRC. Wayne qualified #7 at the US Nationals at 6.884/225.56. He beat Gerry Glenn on a holeshot in round one, 7.00/218.44 to 6.97/227. In round two, he lost to Tom Hoover, running 7.18/209.30 to Tom's winning 6.91/191. Is this Louis Boyd of Boyd's Machine? |
