Notes: Won NHRA Pro Stock Open at Dover Drag Strip in April 1970 with a best of 10.15/138.50. One of the original '68 Hurst Hemi SS/B cars. | Miller started the '70 season at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals run near the end of January. He ran well, lasting until the second round before losing to eventual winner Ronnie Sox. Ed qualified #13 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 10.40. He lasted until the second round before losing to Sox. At Gainesville, for the NHRA Gatornationals, his 10.04 qualified #5, but in the opening round, he was upset by Herb McCandless. Herb’s 10.24 beat Miller's 10.25. He won the AHRA Grand American at Lions on March 8, stopping "Dyno Don" Nicholson in the final, and running quicker than the AHRA ET record and setting the AHRA MPH record at 9.93/139.75. In April, he went to his first NHRA Pro Stock Circuit race at Dover Dragstrip. He ran an opening round 10.37/136.03 to beat Allen Phillips in the "Baltimore Bandit" and a semifinal 10.15/134 advanced when Ken Montgomery missed a shift. He faced Bob Banning Jr. in the final. Bob got a huge jump off the line and led by almost a full car length. But Ed had the power to pull past and his 10.20/138.50 got the victory over Bob's 10.60/132. Shortly after that, he was at Rockingham for the AHRA Pro-Am Championships. Things didn't go so well there. While he was doing a burnout to prepare for his first-round match against Don Grotheer, the car went into a wheelstand. When the car landed, it busted its oil pan and he was unable to run. The next AHRA Grand American race was run at Frontier Raceway. Miller’s 10.48 beat Harry Kalwei in the first round, before losing a close race in round two where his 10.49 finished second best to Jim Hayter's 10.48. His next stop was at York US 30 for the Super Stock Magazine Nationals. There was a large turnout of cars (44), and they ran them all. Ed lost to Nicholson in the second round, but he got back in on the "break rule.” But he didn't hang around for long, as in the next round, he lost to Dave Lyall. Ed’s best NHRA times were 10.047/137.82 at the Gatornationals.

Notes: Rich qualiified #10 at the NHRA Summernationals at 9.723/139.53. He beat Joe Satmary in round one, 9.79/139.10 to 9.91/138. Ronnie Sox beat him in round two, however, 9.58/144 to 9.94/133. Rich qualified #2 at Sanair for the NHRA Grandnationals with a 9.630/140.00. He was still over two-tenths behind low qualifier Bill Jenkins at 9.41. But Rich fouled in the opening round, tossing away a 9.68/139.96 against Carmen Rotonda, who advanced with a 9.81/138. Shortly after that, he was at Maple Grove for an eight-car show. He qualified #1 with a 9.77 and then ran 9.68 (Low ET) at 139.75 to beat Al Joniec's 9.87/139 in the opening round. A semifinal 9.69/139.75 beat Richie Zul's 9.87/138 and moved him into the final against Ken Montgomery. The two had a good race, but the Vega was too strong, and Mirarcki won with a 9.69/140.18 over Ken's 9.78/140. Another victory came at the fourth NHRA Division 1 race held at Cayuga. There Rich's 9.67/141.06 in the final stopped Ray Allen's 9.73/139. Rich had a great US Nationals at Indy. He qualified #8 at 9.741/139.53. In round one, he beat Don Lorentzen, 9.80/139.75 to 10.16/134. He then took out Bobby Yowell, 9.74/139.53 to 9.82/141. In round three, he took the measure of Carmen Rotonda, 9.78/139.10 to an 11-second shut-off. And in the semis, he took an amazing win over Don Nicholson, 9.78/139.53 to 9.70/140. We need confirmation of whether this was a massive holeshot or if Don fouled. In the final, Rich finished runner-up to Ray Allen, 9.48/141 to 9.80/139.31. Rich was #6 of the Eastern Qualifiers at the Amarillo World Finals in October, hitting a 10.21 in the high altitude. He beat Shay Nichols in round one, 10.08/138.67 to 11.35/91. In round two, he lost a close one to Jim Hayter, 9.92/137 to 9.99/139.10. At Ontario, for the NHRA Supernationals, he was the second alternate with a 9.72. Rich also ran 9.69 at York this year.

Notes: Don ran this car at a weight break for long-wheelbase cars. With few Ford choices at that wheelbase, he (and Bob Glidden and a few others) went back to the 1970 body style. "Dyno Don" was at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals. He qualified #5 and lasted until the second round, where he faced Bob Glidden's similar '70 Mustang. Glidden won their race and went on to win the event. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, the exact same thing happened. Nicholson qualified #6 with an 8.959/152.28. A first-round 9.001/153.32 advanced when Doug Wood fouled away a 9.27/148, but once again, he ran into Glidden in the second round. The results were the same, with Don's 9.021/150.75 losing to Bob's 8.78/153. Once again, Glidden would go on to win. Don raced his Mustang II at Gainesville and Columbus but returned with the Mustang at Englishtown. He qualified #6 at 8.960/151.51. A Warren Johnson holeshot ended his day in round one, 9.08/150 to Don's 8.99/152.54. Don qualified #2 at Indy with an 8.839 at the Top Speed of the Meet at 155.32. He beat Jerry Haas in round one, 8.942/150.50 to 9.03/148, and Kenny Hahn in round two, 8.930/150.75 to 9.17/147. Don got the best of Bob Glidden in an excellent third-round matchup, 8.99/151.00 to 9.05/150. Unfortunately, Don's Mustang broke in the semis, sending Richie Zul to an 8.97/151 win. Don skipped Seattle but raced at the World Finals. An 8.986/150.25 qualified #8. He lost to Jack Schorr in a first-round upset, 9.06/148 to 9.159/152.03.

Notes: Former Billy Stepp car. | Carmen Rotonda qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals with a 10.02. Unfortunately, he lost to Bill Bagshaw in the first round. He then went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals where on his info sheet, it was claimed that he was driving a Duster. He qualified #22 with 10.010 in the 32 car field and lost early in eliminations.

Notes: Joe ran at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals in January In the first round, he put a holeshot on second qualifier Wayne Gapp and held on for the win. In the second round, his 9.27 lost to Wally Booth's 9.17. At the NHRA Winternationals at Pomona, he qualified #9 with a 9.03/151.26. He lost early. Joe ran well at the AHRA Grandnationals at Dragway 42, West Salem, Ohio, in May. He qualified #4 in the eight-car show and then beat Floyd Williams' Pinto in the first round, with a 9.04/152.82. In the semifinals, he needed only a 9.15 to advance when Booth fouled. In the final, he ran Ken Dondero in Bill Jenkins' Vega. An 8.94/154 by Dondero gave Satmary's 9.12/153.32 the runner-up spot. Joe barely made the field at the NHRA Springnationals with a 9.15/148.27 for the #15 spot. A first-round 9.19/147.78 lost to Booth's 9.11/149. Joe failed to qualify at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, but he made the show at Maryland International for the US Pro Stock Open. Unfortunately, he fouled in the first round. At the PHR Championships, Satmary qualified in the dreaded #9 spot with a 9.02. That made him run low qualifier, Bob Glidden, in the first round. Bob ran 9.02 to beat Joe's 9.24.

His 9.94 qualified #7 in the sixteen-car field, but he lost early in eliminations. On August 19, he was at Thompson raceway for an eight-car show. Unfortunately, he fouled away a 9.84/141 in the first round, against Ron Hutter, who advanced with a 10.23/140. Eddie was at Marion Country on August 29 for the AHRA Grandnationals. It was the beginning of rules to make certain cars competitive. In '71, Chevy's were given a weight handicap.

Notes: Reid’s 9.50 was at NHRA national record set at Suffolk. Also ran 9.540/144.92 at Tulsa. Ran 9.584 and 9.586 at 144.69 for a new NHRA MPH record at Phenix City, AL. | After two years of almost total dominance of Pro Stock racing, the Mopar Hemi was now faced with the new challenge of the small block Vega of Bill Jenkins. The Vega of Jenkins was a completely new type of Pro Stock car using a custom chassis whereas the other cars were still based on factory chassis. The Mopars were still a force to be reckoned with, but the clock was now running out for them. Reid’s Duster was a strong runner in '72. His season started at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals. There, he qualified #4 with a 9.70 and lasted until the second round before losing to the eventual winner Butch Leal. He then went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where he qualified #8 in the 32 car field. He lasted until the third round where his late 9.82 lost to Don Grotheer's 9.93. Early in March, he was at Lakeland for the IHRA Winternationals. A 9.62/143.76 qualified #2 behind Ronnie Sox's 9.56/144, but he broke a clutch against Joe Weis in the first round. Shortly after that, he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where he qualified #5 with a 9.59. A slightly better 9.58 in the opening round beat Dick Landy's 9.87 and in round two, he did what few people would do in '72: he beat the "Grump.” His 9.63/140.18 held off Jenkins' 9.77/141. The Vega had blown a head gasket on the run. After that, you would think that Reid would go on to win, but unfortunately, he broke against Melvin Yow in the semifinals. On April 9th, he was at the NHRA Division 2 Opener at Phenix City. Reid set Low ET and Top Speed at 9.63/144.00 (track speed record) on his way to a final round showing against Yow. At the second Division 2 race held at Suffolk in May, Reid failed to reach the final, but he did reset the NHRA Pro Stock record to 9.50. He also had Top Speed at 144.23. Reid was overdue for a win; it finally came on May 20 at the Division 2 race at Blaney Dragstrip. He also reset the NHRA Pro Stock speed record to 144.69. In the final, opponent Joe Fisher broke and Whisnant ran 9.57/144.23 for the victory. His next stop was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. He only qualified #11 and that set up a first-round race with Sox who qualified #3. Sox’s 9.71 beat Reid's 9.78 to send him home early. The following week (June 18), he was at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals. There were 32 cars attempting to qualify for the sixteen-car field and Reid qualified #9. That was not good as he faced low qualifier Jenkins in round one. Reid tried hard in their race, maybe a little too hard, as he missed third gear and lost to Jenkins' 9.68/144. Another win came at the Warner Robins National Open on June 25. There, a final round 9.73/138.88 beat Bruce Walker's 9.85/138. At Englishtown, for the NHRA Summernationals, a 9.70 qualified #9 in the 32 car field. He beat Dutch Irrgang in the opening round, but in round two, he came up against Jenkins again and his 9.72/140.84 lost to the Vega's 9.52/137.
