Notes: In April, Kosty was at Epping, New England, for a best of three match race against Tom Prock, driving the "Custom Body" car. He won all three races with times of 6.39/218.44, 6.38/207.37, and 6.70/185.56, as Prock could do no better than 6.68 on this day. He was at Englishtown for its Spring Funny Car Bonanza race, but he blew his engine on an 8.50/119.36 run in the first round. He won the race as Al Bergler had broken on the line, but he could not show for his semifinal race against eventual winner Tommy Ivo. He raced at Maple Grove for the Duitch Classic but got out of shape in the first round and shut off against Pee Wee Wallace. Kosty won the Gold Cup Championships race held at Empire Dragway in August. It was an eight-car show, and in the opening round, his 6.74/191.90 beat Bruce Larson's 6.93/203. Another 6.74 at 195.22 in the semifinal defeated George Johnson's 6.82/204. He stepped it up in the final, setting Low ET at 6.54/191.08 while beating Dodger Glenn in the "Frantic Ford." |

Notes: Former Mazmanian Cuda, still has some remaining lettering from Mazmanian on front and rear fenders. | East Coast Drag News race promo from 3/26/72 cited a 216 mph Atco track record and a 222.22 speed and a defeat of Don Prudhomme at the CARS Magazine meet at Atco. We need to confirm those were in 1972 and need to confirm it was the funny car and not an earlier dragster. |

Notes: Joe's last year of competition until the 2000s. It also had a very clean white-on-red panel paint job. Jacono was at Suffolk in April for an eight-car show. His 6.79/189.07 advanced in the first round when Jim Wemett's car broke. In the semi-final, he shut down to 13/52.17 with problems against Arne Swensen's 6.75/200. Joe was at Empire Dragway in August for its Gold Cup Championships. It was an eight-car show, and in the first round, his 6.96/177.16 lost to Dodger Glenn's 6.56/218 in the "Frantic Ford."He was back at Suffolk in September for the Dixie Drag Classic. In the opening round, his 6.62/196.96 beat Tom Prock in the "Custom Body" car. An off-pace 7.40/129.31 in the semi-final lost to eventual winner Pee Wee Wallace's 6.57/216. |

Notes: Cecil Lankford and David Sien had raced a Hardy-built Camaro in '71. For the '72 season, they switched to a 120" Don Hardy chassised Mustang. The body was built by Fiberglass Ltd. Brand X #2. Dragway 42 hosted the IHRA Summernationals on August 20, and Lankford qualified for the show, but he fouled against Shirley Muldowney in the first round. Cecil was at Rockingham on September 18 for the IHRA US Open Championships. In the opening round of eliminations, his off-pace 7.09/206.42 lost to Ron Potter's 6.95/195. |

Notes: All fiberglass 109" Larson-built rectangular tube chassis. Larson ran this car on gas, alky, and fuel. These are fuel stats. He ran the car from 1966/68, then debuted his Camaro. Sold this car to Jim Maybeck, who ran it as the "Screaming Eagle" A/XS in 1968. Then Maybeck turned it over to Al Hanna late in 1968. The best times I've found for this car in 1966 on fuel are 9.2/150.00 at Englishtown, per 11/04/66 Drag Times. A 4/3/70 National Dragster Pro-File says the car went 8.50s at 167 in 1966, though they were notorious for having the years wrong. - JB (Note: Picture shows his rebodied '67 car, not the '66 as noted above. He ran each in successive years. - RT) |

Notes: Runner-up to Harlan Thompson at New England Funny Car Nats with a 6.84 at 233. Also ran 225. | Bruce won the season opener at New England in April. He stopped Gary Burgin's 7.08 in the final with a 6.67. Bruce was at York's Funny Car Nationals held on April 30. Sixteen cars ran the first-round, with the eight lowest ET's advancing into round two. Unfortunately, Larson did not run quick enough to advance. In May, he was at Maple Grove for the Dutch Classic. An opening round 6.82/205 beat Ray Sherman and in the semifinals, his 6.51/208 beat Arne Swensen's 6.56/209. Once again, he faced Burgin in the final, and this time, the roles were reversed as Larson went into a wheelstand and shut down to 7.06/206 while Gary got the victory with a 6.55/211. Early in July, Larson beat Al Hanna driving the "Eastern Raider" in a best of three match at Oxford, Maine. Larson attempted to qualify at the NHRA Summernationals, but his best of 6.600 was good for the fifth alternate spot. He competed at the Cayuga Canadian Gold Cup Championships, where he reached the final. His day there started with a 6.85/203 that beat Bill Leavitt. A 6.66 (Low ET) at 205 in the semifinal beat Gary Burgin, who got out of shape. In the final, he faced Tom McEwen, and the "Goose's" 6.67/221 took the win over Larson's 6.79/203. Shortly after that, he was at Atco for its Fuel Funny Car Championships. Fourteen cars were there, and they were to make two runs each, with the two Low ET cars meeting in the final. Larson ran 6.64/210 to win his first race, and in his second, a 6.51/217 that beat Norm Wilcox in the "Hawaiian" qualified him for the final. The other car that qualified for the final was Don Prudhomme, who had run 6.26 and 6.22. I have no times for that final, but somehow Larson ended up in the victory circle. Bruce was the 10th alternate at NHRA Indy with a 6.400/227.27. |

Notes: Lunati was at Connecticut in May for a best of three match against Bill Lawton. He lost the match but did make a good showing. He was back in Connecticut on June 11 for a best of three match race against the "Ramchargers." Lunati held the track speed record going into this match at 170.45. The report did not mention who was driving the Dart as both Jim Thornton and Mike Buckel were both behind the wheel at various times during the year. The week after this match, Jim was driving. In their first race, Joe's 8.56/159.01 beat the "Rams" 8.80/166. But in the next two races, the Dart was able to beat the Camaro and win the match while resetting both the ET and speed record at 8.42/174. Lunati was runner-up to Doug Thorley in Funny Car Eliminator at the '67 NHRA Nationals. Turned 8.200/179.28 to the winner's 7.83/192.30. - RT |

Notes: Jack qualified 5th at the 1974 March Meet with a 6.58/218.96; he lost in the first round, when his parachute fell out after his burnout. Jack also ran a 6.57 at Fresno Dragway during the 12th Annual Winter Race of Champions to qualify #2 in the eight-car field. His opponent, Dave Condit, shut off in the opening round, and Jack's wheelstanding 11.58 advanced. In the semifinals, he smoked the tires and lost to Mert Littlefield. |

Notes: Tony debuted at Houston in October 1988. He qualified at the Supernationals with a 5.535/253.02 but lost to Mike Dunn in round one, 5.59/241 to 5.818/166.82. That was his only NHRA national event in 1988, but he had a successful 1989 season. Tony died in a car crash a couple of years later. Photo from Columbus 1989. |
