He campaigned the first 427-cid Z-11 '63 Chevy available in Washington, D.C., under the name Strip Blazer I and improved from his 409 best of 12.26 to 12.01 his first time out at 75/80 Drag-A-Way. Later that year, he defeated both Dave Strickler's A/S Chevy and Bill Jenkins' S/S entry. Notes: The "Ramcharger" Dart was not a flip-top FC. The roof lifted off for access to the cockpit. The Dart body appeared stock but was actually narrowed six inches. Mike was at Cecil County on April 16 for a best-of-three-match race against Don Gay and his "Infinity" GTO. The first race was a classic, as Buckel's 8.37/168.85 narrowly beat Gay's 8.45/163. Unfortunately, the Pontiac blew its transmission, so it was out of competition. Jim Liberman was there as a backup car in his new Nova, so he filled in. In the next race, Mike's 8.63/168.85 easily beat the Nova's ailing 9.53/145. The third race saw Jim pick up half a second to 9.03/159, but it still wasn't enough to win against Mike's 8.53/168.53. | One of their injected Darts (I believe this one) had a removable roof. Notes: Photo from 1967. Ran 7.88 at Irwindale Dragway AHRA Winternationals. | At the Pro Circuit Fueler race at Pomona on January 23, Bob qualified #9 with a 7.90/199.54 in the sixteen-car show. That was pretty good considering that there were 34 cars trying to make the field. He lost early, but it was a good showing. He ran even better at the AHRA Winternationals at Irwindale on February 13; there he lasted until round three (32 car field). He fouled against eventual winner Bob Hightower. A 7.60/202.24 qualified #5 at the UDRA Winternationals at Lions, but he failed to reach the final rounds. |

Notes: Al built his own 122" chassis for this car. The 426 Hemi was mostly stock with the addition of an Isky cam and kit. Hilborn injection was also used. A Torqueflite transmission delivered the power back to a 3.90 rear. Early runs for the car were in the high eights and low nines. Time cited in 10/01/67 Milwaukee Journal article.
