Notes: Ronnie Hunter was driving K.S. Pittman's Firebird at Green Valley on June 16 for a best of three match race against Roger Lindamood's "Color Me Gone" Challenger. In the first race, Hunter’s 7.70 got the win. In the second race, Hunter had problems and shut off on the line and Lindamood made a solo pass, but crossed the centerline. He was still awarded the win. In the third race, Lindamood sewed up the match as he soloed again after the Firebird broke on the line. |

Notes: King debuted the new Monza at Epping on April 17 for its first FC Tourney race of the season. In the opening round, his 6.98/170 lost to Kosty Ivanoff's 6.32/205. In the second round, he improved to 6.60/200 to beat Les Cassidy's 7.08/168. Also 6.64 at Epping 1977. In this incident, pictured, King lost the reverser and was driving the car back to the starting line. When he swung around to return to his lane, he whacked the throttle and drove into his competitor's truck. |

Notes: Dean was driving one of at least six Chevy-powered FCs attempting to qualify at Beeline Dragway's 32 car field for the AHRA Winternationals. Unfortunately, none of them made the show. LaPole ran well at Dragway 42 in May for the AHRA Grand American race. He qualified #6, and in the first round, his 6.77/199.11 beat Don Prudhomme's 7.03/177. He came out and ran 6.78/193.96 over Dale Emery's 7.12/162 in round two to show it was no fluke. He still ran well in the semifinals, but his 6.81 lost to eventual winner "Jungle Jim" Liberman's 6.64. In July, he was at Englishtown for an eight-car show. His 7.17/160.42 in the opening round beat Pee Wee Wallace but as the speed on the pass shows, he hurt the engine and was unable to return for the semifinal. The quickest pure Chevy in history. Also 6.40 at St. Louis 1973, but a long-forgotten 6.36 at 217.28 from OCIR. The car broke on the pass and did not make eliminations, so the 6.36 time did not make the press. David Ray provided us with the time slip for proof. |

Notes: Larson competed at the Spring All-Pro Funny Car Championships held at Maple Grove in April. It was an eight-car show, and in the first round, of eliminations, his 6.84/201.34 beat Bob Beaulieu's 6.83/192. In the semifinals, his 6.63/217.91 lost to the eventual winner Gary Burgin's 6.48/201. Suffolk held an eight-car show shortly after that where Bruce competed, but he lost early in eliminations. On April 29, he was at York US 30 for its eighth annual Funny Car Nationals. In round one, Bruce's 7.61 beat Pete Hill's 7.74. But in round two, he lost to Dodger Glenn, who was driving the "Frantic Ford." Luckily for Larson, Roy Harris had won his second-round race but had hurt some parts and could not return for his semifinal race. The break rule was in effect, and since Larson was the low Et loser from round two, he was brought back into the field for the semifinal. Once again, he had to race the "Frantic Ford," and this time, he won with a 7.00. He faced Dick Rosberg in the final, and Bruce set Low ET with a 6.30 to get the victory. Bruce was at Englishtown on May 7 for the NHRA Division One opener. He ran well, stopping Harris' 6.63/203 in the first round, with a 6.50/220.04 before falling to the eventual winner Jake Crimmins' 6.47/213 with a 6.55/215.31 in the semifinals. He won the Factory Funny Car Showdown at Atco. Times there were not that great. A 7.18/216.34 beat a blower-popping Les Cassidy in the first round. Glenn got sideways in the semifinal, and Larson advanced with a 7.21/171.75. The final didn't look good for Larson as he faced Burgin, who had set Low ET at 6.44. But both drivers smoked the tires in the final, and Larson's 7.56/199.11 got the win over Gary's 7.84/214. He was at Englishtown on June 21 for the Crazy Eddie Night of Thrills race. Larson's late 6.37/222.77 lost to Tommy Ivo's 6.42/193 in his first race, and in his second race, a quicker 6.56 lost to Al Hanna's 6.60. Bruce won the NED Gold Cup Championships at Empire Dragway in New York in July. A final round 6.68/215.31 beat Tom Prock. In August, he was at the New England Championships, where he lasted until the semifinals before losing to Pete Williams in the "Chi-Town Hustler."Atco held its Funny Car Championships shortly after on a Wednesday. It was an eight-car field, and in the opening round of eliminations, Bruce's 6.88/206.42 beat Roy Harris'quicker 6.78/208 in the "Brutus" Mustang. In the semifinals, Larson's 6.57/205.01 lost to Jim Adolph's 6.56/191. He then went to New England for the NHRA Division One final. But in round one, his 6.59/218.44 lost to Gary Burgin's 6.32/224. |

Notes: Leach ran Race Car Dynamics. This car was destroyed at Fremont early in the year. Steve was at Fremont in April for the NHRA Division 7 race. It turned out to be a very bad day for him. He smoked the tires and got crossed up, then had the blower explode, which destroyed the body. He then crashed the car into the guardrail, which wrecked the chassis. He was OK, but the car was toast. | Steve made it back to the World Finals driving something! He did not qualify and we don't have those times. |
