Notes: Former Don Prudhomme, former Sam Miller. After running a Rat-motored Corvair in '70, Poffenberger stepped up and bought Don Prudhomme's '70 'Cuda for the '71 season. Early in the season, Ken had Sam Miller driving it while he was getting it sorted out. Sam ran 7.15 on one of its first runs. Miller took out the lights at Englishtown and the car was repainted with flames. The car used a two-speed Lenco and a 4.88 Dana rear. The motor was a stock-stroke 426 Hemi with M/T rods and pistons. Isky supplied the cam and the Cragar blower manifold held a 28% overdriven Larry Bowers built blower. Enderle was used for injection. Ken took over the driving chores and set Cecil County's mph track mark at 207.85. He also held the track record at New York National at 213.20. Article on the car states that his best ET at the time was a 6.93 turned at New York. |

Notes: Gene was at Blaney Drag Strip on September 5 for an East Coast Fuel circuit race. It was an eight-car show, and in the first round, his 8.34 beat Charles Lee's Javelin. In the semifinal, he ran another 8.34 to beat Jim Wigglesworth. That moved him into the final against the Opel "Mini Brute" driven by Dan Smoker. Unfortunately for Gene, Dan got the win with his own 8.34. On October 18, he was at Keystone Raceway for another east Coast Fuel Circuit race. He became the first Chev-powered car on the circuit to run a "7" when he ran 7.99/176.78 in qualifying. | Former Jungle Jim 1969 car. Altizer ran the East Coast Fuel Funny Car Circuit. - RT |
