Notes: RT (Bob) Melville. We need confirmation of this 6.03 at 241. These are probably a combination of the times Gary ran in 1984 and 1985. |

Notes: John qualified #12 at Pomona at 6.563/225.56, then went to the semis on race day, hitting a nice 6.510/198.67 in the process. John lost to eventual winner Dale Emery in the Jeg's Camaro. That was his only NHRA national event this year. |

Notes: Times and info from National Dragster, 8/23/74. | This team spent most of its time on the match race trail. They figured there was not a lot of money to be made at NHRA events and preferred booked in shows. Colson really ran well at Rockingham in May for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. He qualified #1 for the sixteen-car field with a 6.62/214.79. During eliminations, he set Low ET at 6.50 and in the final, beat Raymond Beadle who was driving for Don Schumacher. The final wasn't pretty as his 7.28/226.70 (Top Speed) beat Beadle's equally troubled 7.38/220 for the victory. The team was at Bristol in June for the IHRA Springnationals where 35 cars attempted to qualify for the sixteen-car show. Ron’s 6.57 qualified #5 and he improved to 6.51/222.77 in the first round, to beat Beadle's 6.78/193. But in round two, eventual winner Billy Meyer ran 6.37/218 to beat Colson's 6.53/218.97. Colson got some revenge on Meyer at the next IHRA event, the Northern Nationals held at Mid-America Dragway on June 30. There, he stopped Billy in the final although Meyer sort of handed the win to the "Chi-Town" bunch when he had to shut off on the line when his headers fell off. Colson ran 7.31/216.86 for the win after earlier posting Top Speed at 222.58. The "Chi-Town Hustler" team always made a point in running at the PHR Championships at Martin, Michigan. The race was run with all cars running the first-round and the eight lowest ETs advancing into round two. In the qualifying round, Colson ran 6.63/217.39. This was enough to advance into the second round where both he and "Jungle Jim" Liberman got out of shape. Ron’s 7.26/189.87 beat Jim's 7.81/197. The semifinals saw Colson run 6.49/211.26 to stop Jim Nicoll at 6.90/154. This moved him into the final against Don Prudhomme. Don was running really well with times of 6.52, 6.30, and 6.35 to reach the final. Colson's crew chief, Austin Coil, must have added some clutch for the final as the Charger went into a huge wheelstand that crashed down hard, busting their oil pan. Prudhomme was long gone with a 6.49 for the victory. Ron also ran well at the IHRA US Open. He qualified #8 and made his way to the semifinals, where a motor blowing 6.56 beat Denny Savage's 6.85 in the "Hawaiian.” Unfortunately, the team was unable to repair in time and Savage was reinstated for the final. Colson also had problems at the IHRA All-American race at Bristol. He qualified for the show, but broke a set of titanium pistons. Alternate Larry Gould took their place in the field. |

Notes: Dave was at Irwindale on June 5 for the NHRA Division Seven race. In the opening round of eliminations, his 6.67/214.28 lost to eventual winner John Lombardo's 6.61. Condit and the Hooker set Low ET at the Orange County PDA Meet in August at 6.51. Fifth alternate at NHRA Indy at 6.49/219.51. Qualified #6 with a 6.271/231.36 at Ontario 10/11/75. Lost fire in round one, and lost to Denny Savage. Hometown confirmed. Did this car go 6.21 somewhere this year? We previously listed that. |

Notes: Densham qualified for the sixteen-car field at Irwindale's Grand Premiere on January 12. Unfortunately, his first-round 6.99 lost to Gordon Swearingen's 6.94 in Jim Terry's car. Gary attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but his best of 6.667/216.34 was good for the first alternate. Gary was runner up to Twig Ziegler at Division 7 points meet at Bonneville on 8/18/74. He also ran 6.85 at Pomona WCS. |

Notes: Burned to the ground at OCIR. | Gary started the '81 season by qualifying #3 at the AHRA Winternationals with a 6.87/211. He beat Jim Moore in the first round, with a 6.79/215, but in the semifinal against Gordie Bonin he smoked the tires and shut off. He failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He was at Famoso for the annual Bakersfield March Meet where he used a 6.630/218.44 to qualify #14 in the field. A first-round 6.52/224.42 beat a tire-smoking Bonin, but in round two, he had trouble and shut down to a 10.98 loss to Dale Armstrong. The following week (March 15), OCIR held a race that had 14 FCs trying to qualify for the eight available spots. Densham just made the show with a 6.44/227.27 that held up for the "bump." He lost early, however. He had a best of three match race against Bryan Raines at Las Vegas where he took the match by winning two straight with times of 6.47 and 6.70. At the NHRA Western Regional at OCIR, he ended up as first alternate for the eight-car show with a 6.56. He wasn't alone in his non-qualifying as Kenny Bernstein and John Force among others were behind him. |

Notes: Gary ran one NHRA national event this year, the World Finals. He qualified #16 at 6.115/233.16 and ran a consistent 6.153/233.16 in round one, but that was not enough to get around Kenny Bernstein at 5.93/246. | Former Loper/Shumake Omni, new that Spring, before Loper got out. - Joe Moore |

Notes: Gary attempted to qualify at Pomona for the Winternationals, but a best of 6.411/231.36 failed to make the field. | Pete Jackson injector installed later in '83, Henry Velasco the CC last part of the year. Ran a series of 5.97s/5.99s for early alternate at Indy (ultimately, first alternate at 5.975/245.23), 5.904/238.09 at the '83 Finals with the roof hatch flying off halfway down. (Lost on a holeshot to Denny Savage in round one, (6.188/231.95 to Gary's 6.150/231.95). In January '84, ND reported Densham winning a Sacramento match race win at 6.02/241, with the drive line breaking up, causing injuries. Densham/ND said he "could wear a narrower shoe" after the incident. - Joe Moore | Photo from 1983 US Nationals. |

Notes: Jim started his season at Fremont for the Nitro Bowl race. In the first round, his off-pace 7.08 lost to eventual winner Tom McEwen's 6.52. He then went to OCIR for its season opener. A first-round 6.48/213.27 beat Raymond Beadle's troubled 7.24/144 in the "Blue Max." Unfortunately, he lost to eventual winner John Lombardo in the next round. He was the fourth alternate at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 6.43/208.81 best. His next stop was at the Bakersfield March Meet. Jim's 6.49/195.22 stopped an out-of-shape Ed McCulloch in round one, but he lost to Gordie Bonin in the semifinals. The NHRA Division Seven Opener was held at Fremont, and Jim ran 6.65/203.61 to qualify #10. In the opening round, an off-pace 7.93 lost to "Jungle Jim" Liberman's 6.24. On March 30, OCIR held its annual "Fox Hunt" race. Twenty-seven cars showed to qualify for the 16-car field, and Dunn failed to qualify. In April, Ontario Motor Speedway held a four-car match race. Dunn was one of the cars competing. In his first race, both he and Jake Johnston shut down early, with Jake's 6.51/174 winning over his 7.00/156. In his second race, his 6.77/176 fell to Don Prudhomme's 6.40/200. Jim's only other NHRA national event was in Seattle, where he qualified #15 at 6.546/214.28. He lost to Tom Hoover in round one, 6.38/220 to 6.70/178.92 | In the later part of the year (SIR 64), they ran a 417, which was lettered on the upper part of the body, as in this OCIR picture. Aluminum heads and the whole nine. In '77, D&V went to a late model, listed in the Fallnationals program as a Milo. - Joe Moore |
