Notes: Died at Indy when he hit the guardrail at 169.49 mph. Confirmed 8.24 at Lakeland and 169.49 at Indy in 1967. Drag World's August 25 issue claimed bests of 8.21/170. 1967 (Drag World 8/25/67); Heinelt had been touring the country with Coleman's Holman & Moody-prepared injected Mustang funny car since at least late May. Some newspapers reported that Heinelt died driving a supercharged Mustang funny car at Indy so it is unclear what car he was driving when he had his fatal crash.
