Notes: Listed times from The Drag Racing List December 86/January 87, Volume 1, Number 9. Jack attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but his best of 5.96/250.00 failed to make the show. He also failed to qualify at the NHRA Gatornationals with a 5.84/240.89 best. Jack qualified on the "bump" spot at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals with a 5.84/244.96. Unfortunately, he broke a transmission in the first round, against Dan Pastorini. Revelle went to Kansas City for the ADRA Summernationals. He ran a career-best (to that point) 5.73/252.80 to qualify #5 in the eight-car field. But his opening round 5.75/250.00 lost to Dick LaHaie's 5.59/255. |

Notes: Denny had won the NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster world title in '87. He was hoping to repeat in '88, and while it didn't happen, he did have a successful year. He dropped to fifth in the final season-long standings, but he did win the NHRA All-Stars race at Atlanta as well as four Division 5 races to win that Division title. On the IHRA side of things, he won the IHRA US Open and finished second to Bill Baney in its points chase. Lucas ran a heavy machinery repair shop that he closed every year from April to November so that he could race. Photo from 1988 NHRA Springnationals Columbus, OH. Olds from Sonny's, 698 ci Donovan Olds from Scott Shafiroff, 665 ci S. A.R. Olds from Sonny's). Set track record at Huntsville AL, 4.33 ET (Nitrous record). | Bill was still running his Nitrous combination at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. His 6.87 qualified #13 and in the first round, a 6.92/198.15 beat Jason Petersen's 7.17/196. He had a manifold explosion in round two, but his 7.85/120.69 advanced over Gary Grahner. The team repaired in time for his semifinal race with Scotty Cannon, but a 6.84/195.60 wasn't enough to beat eventual winner Cannon's 6.72/200. Kuhlmann then went to Huntsville Dragway for the 1/8 mile IHRA Bama Nitrous Nationals. There were 35 cars attempting to qualify for the show and Bill's 4.37/162.33 qualified #2 behind Cannon's 4.32/167. Bill improved to 4.33/165.10 in his first-round win over Norman Estes' 4.56/158, but a round two 4.65/159.01 lost to Fred Hahn's 4.59/157. |
