Notes: Hank qualified #8 for the sixteen-car field at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals with a 5.71/248.75. A 5.72/252.59 beat Gene Snow's 5.82/234 in the opening round, but a second-round 5.79/251.46 fell to eventual winner Larry Minor's 5.78/251. He then went to Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals. Endres qualified #11 with a 5.72/250.69, but he lost to Don Garlits in round one. He really ran well in qualifying at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, where he ran 5.52/259.74 for the #5 spot in the show. That was ahead of Gary Beck, Garlits, Connie Kalitta, and a host of others. Alas, in round one, Beck stepped up from his 5.60 in qualifying to run 5.49/257 to defeat Endres' 5.70/256.77. Maple Grove was the next stop on the NHRA tour for the Keystone Nationals. Hank qualified #5 once again with a 5.45/262.31. He became just the fifth Top Fuel driver to run a 5.3 time (behind Beck, Garlits, Darrell Gwynn, and Eddie Hill) with a first-round 5.386/247.52 that beat Kalitta. But he smoked the tires hard in round two, and his 8.04/94.27 lost to Gary Ormsby's 5.64/255. At Texas, for the NHRA Chief Nationals, Hank ran 5.44/261.55 to qualify #7. He beat Jack Revelle in the opening round with a 5.56/260.34. In round two, a 5.48/262.31 defeated Earl Whitting before his 5.56/256.26 lost to Gwynn's 5.27/276 in the semifinal. Endres qualified #1 at Phoenix for the NHRA Fallnationals with a 5.497/250.08. Unfortunately, the car broke on the line in the first round against Hill. The NHRA season came to an end at Pomona for the World Finals. A 5.436/261.29 qualified #6. In the opening round, both he and his opponent, Ormsby, had trouble getting traction, and Gary's 6.39/203 beat Hank's 6.44/223.54 in a Top Fuel race similar to the1960ss when the Top Fuel cars blazed the tires the whole length of the track. |

Notes: Gary debuted this streamlined car at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. The first time out, the blower exploded and messed up the bodywork. His 6.47/152.54 obviously failed to qualify. His 5.65/263.62 at Gainesville qualified #14 for the NHRA Gatornationals.In the opening round, Ormsby's 5.69/215.31 fell to Connie Kalitta's 5.50/257. Heavy streamliner body. The concept was sound, but horsepower couldn't match the weight. Used the 1985 chassis. Mag grounded to the carbon fiber body, causing an explosion at the first race. Gary had best times of 5.445/263.77 at the Summernats, 5.455/262.85 (Low ET) at Columbus, and 5.455/265.48 at Ennis. Gary qualified #13 at the World Finals at 5.639/257.80. He won the first round in an upset of Hank Endres but lost in round two to Joe Amato. |

Notes: John was at Beeline on January 21 for the AHRA Winternationals. He lost with a 7.68 in the first round, to Darrell Greenmeyer. At the NHRA Winternationals at Pomona in Feb, John qualified #25 in the 32 car field with a 7.21/215.83. In the first round, he ran a 7.27/188.66, but lost to eventual runner-up, Dwight Salisbury's 7.05/210. Tulsa held a Texas Pro Fuel Circuit race in June. It was a sixteen-car show that had 26 cars trying to make the field. John ran a 7.40/189.86 to qualify #3. He went on to win the race, stopping Bennie Osborn in the semifinal and in the final, he ran a 7.24 to win over Dwight Salisbury. Wiebe was at the next Texas Pro Circuit race at Odessa Raceway on June 15. This time it was only an eight-car show and John's 7.51 qualified #4. He was shut off on the line in the first round, with a fuel leak. In November of '68 this car was for sale in National Dragster with a claimed best ET of 6.88. Confirmed 6.945/209.13 at NHRA Indianapolis 9/68. |

Set 4.893 National Record and low qualifier at 92 Winternationals. | The season didn't start so well for Pat. He was at Firebird Raceway's Test and Tune event in Jan, and on his very first pass of the new year, the car went into a wheelstand and landed hard. It sheared the left A-Arm, and the team spent all day Saturday repairing it. On Sunday, Austin came back out and ran 5.15 and 5.03/279.67. Pat qualified #1 at the Winternats with a 4.89/291.54. He ran a 4.90/291.07 in the first round, over a broken Bruce Walker and a second-round 4.92/289.48 beat Bobby Baldwin before he lost to Jim Head in the semis. At the next event, the Arizona Nationals, he continued to qualify well with a 4.96/291.35 (Top Speed) qualifying #2. In the first round, he beat Kenny Bernstein with a 4.99/287.90 and a 5.08/286.07 took care of Head in the second round. In the semifinal, Pat left first running a 5.07/287.44 that beat Mike Brotherton's quicker 5.04/281. In the final, he met Doug Herbert and won with a 5.06/286.25. At the NHRA Supernationals, he qualified #10 with a 4.96/295.27. |
