Notes: The T-Bird debuted at the Grandnationals in Sanair at the end of June. Only fifteen cars showed, and Ron's 5.82/252.38 qualified #7. In the opening round, he had problems and shut off against Mark Oswald. The following week, he was in Milan, Michigan, for the IHRA Northern Nationals. The car was still unlettered and wearing black primer. He qualified #14 and ran an easy 5.97/249.30 in the first round to advance when Kenny Bernstein could not show due to a fire he had in qualifying. In the second round, Ron lost to Tom McEwen. At the NHRA Summernationals, Correnti qualified #13 with a 5.81. He had problems in the first round against Dale Pulde and shut off. His next stop was at Bandimere for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. Ron qualified #13 with a 6.13/241.93 in the thin air. In the first round, he lost to Rick Johnson in the "Hawaiian." This car's career ended at Edgewater during the IHRA Summernationals in August. It caught fire during qualifying, and the T-Bird body was destroyed. Ron was not hurt. IHRA number was 154. We formerly listed 5.71 for this car, but 5.779/253.52 were his best NHRA national event times at the World Finals. We are removing the 5.71 until we get confirmation.

Notes: Jeff was runner-up to Jim Dunn at the Irwindale Grand Premiere. He qualified #12 for the sixteen-car field. In the opening round of eliminations, his 7.08 beat Sush Matsubara's off-pace 7.29. In round two, Mert Littlefield's 7.11 fell to Jeff's 7.07/194.80. He lost to Dunn's 6.91/193 in the semifinal with a 7.44/142.29. The final was supposed to be between Dunn and Butch Maas, who was driving the MT Pontiac. But Maas blew his engine on his burnout for the final. Courtie replaced him and attempted to run Dunn in the final without the aid of a burnout. He went up in tire smoke while Dunn ran 6.92 for the victory. He failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. On March 10, he was at OCIR for an eight-car show. His 6.80 qualified #5. He shut down against John Lombardo in the first round, as the car was going into a wheelstand. The body flew off the car at about 150 and was wrecked. Jeff brought the chassis to a safe stop. Jeff traveled across the country to run at his only NHRA national event, the Springnationals in Columbus. He was the third alternate at 7.015/198.23. He drove a Cuda. Was it his car or a borrowed ride?

Notes: Courtie was at Irwindale in March for the Coca-Cola Funny Car Championships. It was a 32 car field, and in the opening round of eliminations, his 6.92 lost to Jim Dunn's 6.80. Jeff was at Seattle for the Seafair Funny Car Championships in August. It was a 32 car field that was to have all cars run three rounds, with the two lowest ET cars meeting in the final. Courtie won his first race with a 7.01/193 when Raymond Beadle, driving the "Blue Max," broke a rear end. In his next race, both he and Jim Dunn overpowered the track and smoked the tires. Jeff came out on top with an 8.35. The third round didn't come off as the track had an 11:00 pm curfew. Courtie's ETs were not low enough to advance to the final.

Notes: Courtie started his season at Irwindale for the Grand Premiere race. He qualified #15 with a 7.19, and in the opening round, his car lost fire against Raymond Beadle in the "Blue Max." In March, he was at Fremont for the NHRA Division Seven Opener. Only Fourteen cars showed, and Jeff qualified last. He went up in smoke in round one, and lost to Gary Densham. On April 17, he was back at Irwindale for the Coca-Cola Championships. Both he and Dave Condit smoked the tires in their first-round race, but Jeff recovered first, and his 7.38/170 won. He shut off with problems in his second race, losing to Neil Leffler. Jeff was at OCIR for the PDA Championships on July 31. All eight cars ran two rounds of racing. Jeff ran times of 6.91 and 13.66. | In '76, when NDs were the size of books, Courtie won the June Nitro Championships, out-coasting Brad Anderson's Dart. Anderson would have gotten him cold if nothing went wrong. Both SIR 64-FC regulars. One of the cars at the Fremont D7 featured in "American Nitro." - Joe Moore

Notes: Phillips and Shores spent $35,000 to build this car. It used a 118" Logghe chassis, and the engine was a 426 Hemi built by Ed Pink. It used a half-inch Moldex stroker crank as well as M/T rods and Forgedtrue pistons. Crower supplied the cam. The blower drive and manifold were from Cragar, and Marc Danekas prepared the GMC 6/71. The 87% nitro mix was fed to the engine by Enderle injection. A Lenco two-speed transmitted the power back to a Dana rear with 3.90 gears. The Vega body came from J&E Fiberglass. | Early in the season, Paul Smith drove this car before moving into the seat of the "Sir Wells" car. After that, Tom Crevasse jumped behind the wheel. To say that the car ran well was an understatement. He won the Warner Robins National Open in May. Tom had a close first-round race where both he and Frank Oglesby ran 6.81, but the "Fireball Vega" got the win. Larry Fullerton's "Trojan Horse" broke in the semifinals, and Tom ran an easy single. In the final, he faced Smith. Tom was up to the task, running Low ET and Top Speed with a 6.61/218.44 while Smith slowed to 8.72/86.77 after losing his blower belt. Things didn't go too well at the NHRA Springnationals. The car went into a ball of flame during qualifying. Tom was OK, but the car was badly damaged. Atlanta held a 14 car show later in the month, and Crevasse was there. He soloed in the first round, when Ed O'Brien had a leak on the line. But shortly after that, it rained, and the race was canceled. On July 29, he was at Tri-City Dragway for the fourth NHRA Division Three race. In the first round, he defeated Steve Tansy with a 6.75/212.76, but his late 6.68/219.51 in the semifinal lost to Dale Emery's 6.74/218. Tom did not race at Indy for the NHRA Nationals; instead, he was at Connecticut for its East Coast Mini-Nationals. It was an eight-car show, and he lost to Lew Arrington in the opening round. Shortly after that, Crevasse raced at another eight-car show at Atco. He set Low ET and Top Speed in the first round, with a 6.56/225.00 that beat a tire-smoking, Pete Hill. In the semifinal, a 6.59/217.91 beat Roy Harris in the "Frantic Ford." He faced Arrington in the final. But there was a major screw-up, as the light went green as soon as Arrington staged. Crevasse had not even had a chance to stage the "Fireball Vega." The two drivers split the purse. Tom won the final NHRA Division One race at Atco on September 15. In the opening round, his 6.65/221.13 beat Dave Condit's 6.98/192 in the "LA Hooker." He set Low ET and Top Speed in the semifinal, where his 6.48/227.27 beat Arnie Swensen's Mustang. He faced Charlie Therwhanger, who was driving Mike Burkhart's Vega in the final. Tom's 6.59/223 got the win. The following day, he was at New England Dragway for its Funny Car Nationals. This was a 32 car show, and after winning the first-round easily, his 6.54 in round two lost to Pee Wee Wallace's 6.55. Shortly after that, Tom was at Suffolk for the Dixie Classic. In round one, his 6.69/216 defeated Joe Jacono's 6.99/202. In round two, his 6.64/215 lost to Bill Leavitt's 6.55/201.

Notes: Jake was runner-up to Leroy Goldstein, driving the "Candies and Hughes" car at the second NHRA Division 2 race at Suffolk in May. He was also runner-up to Don Cain at the second NHRA Division 1 race at Sanair. In that final, both he and Cain had problems, and his 24.00/28.46 lost to Cain's 17.96/39.64. That's got to be some kind of record for the slowest fuel funny car final. Jake then went to Englishtown for its FC Spectacular race. His 6.65/216.86 qualified #1, but he got out of shape against eventual winner Lew Arrington and shut down early. He was back at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals but failed to make the show. In late July, Jake was at Tri City Dragway for the fourth NHRA Division 3 race. He qualified #5 in the eight-car field with a 6.66, but an opening round 6.80 lost to Ron O'Donnell's 6.52. The next stop was at Epping, New England, for a sixteen-car show. He lost in the first round but came back out and made two more runs, a 6.81/207 and a 6.72/202. Shortly after this, he returned to Englishtown for a ten-car show. Unfortunately, an off-pace 7.16/197 lost to Gary Bolger's 6.79/216 in the "Golddigger" in the first round. Crimmins also competed at the Dixie Classic at Suffolk, but a 7.02 in the first round lost to Roy Harris' 6.88 in the "Frantic Ford." At the NHRA Division 1 final, Jake lost to Tom Sneden in the first round. He was running well at the New England Funny Car Nationals. A 6.87/211 beat Pee Wee Wallace's 6.96/203 in round one, but he lost to Dave Mudrack driving the "Warhorse" in round two. Iron Block.

Notes: Jake's first time driving for "Jungle Jim" came at Englishtown in March. Liberman was supposed to appear, but he was sick, so Jake filled in. He did really well, running 6.74/219.51 in a first-round win over Arne Swensen in Jake's former ride. An off-pace 7.26/208.81 was still enough to beat a tire-smoking Tom Prock in the semifinals. In the final, he stepped up to 6.59/216.34 to beat Al Segrini's 6.71/218. He was at Englishtown for the Memorial Day Classic. It was an eight-car show, and in the opening round of eliminations, his 6.63/210.77 beat Joe Jacono's 6.80/199. In the semifinal, his 6.69/200.00 fell to Kosty Ivanof's 6.57/191. Also 6.8/206 first-round win over Paul Smith at IHRA Rockingham Pro-Am Nats 1975.

Notes: In August, Jake was driving the "Jungle Jim" Monza at Martin, Michigan, for the PHR Championships. Twenty-one cars were attempting to qualify for the eight-car field and his 6.56 qualified #7. But in the first round, he got out of shape against Tom Hoover and shut down. Shortly after that, he was at Atco for its FC Nationals. It was a sixteen-car show, and in round one, his 6.67/211 beat Larry Fullerton's similar 6.67/211. Notes: Crimmins really dominated the NHRA Division One opener held at Englishtown on May 7. He qualified #1 for the eight-car field with a 6.85. He set Low ET and Top Speed in his opening race with a 6.44/222.77 that beat Dodger Glenn's 6.93/211. Bruce Larson came as close as anyone would as his 6.55/215 lost to Jake's 6.47/213.77 in the semifinals. In the final, he easily beat Les Cassidy for the victory. Jake was at Englishtown in September for the US All-Pro Funny Car Championships. Eight cars were to make two runs each, with the Low ET cars advancing into the final. Crimmins' first pass was 7.05/195.65, while he improved to 6.79/205 on his second. Neither run was anywhere near strong enough to reach the final.

Notes: Jake was at Englishtown for the NHRA Division One race. In the first round, his 6.55/211.26 beat John Speelman's 6.70/207. In the semifinal, he improved to 6.46/218.44 to defeat low qualifier Roy Harris' 6.64/159. He faced Jim Adolph in the final, and Jake got the victory over the "Shady Glenn" Volare. It was rumored to be a former Barry Setzer Vega chassis. With the Mustang shell, this was the former Gary Richards Eastern Raider. Jake did not run any NHRA national events in 1979. | Crimmins parked the car mid-1979 due to lack of funding. - David Hapgood

Notes: Gene was at Miami-Hollywood in February for its Winter Championships. The car was running an injected 427 wedge. It was a twelve-car show, and in the opening round, his 8.65/163.33 beat Jack Broulliard's Camaro. In round two, his 8.57/155.97 beat Ed Skelton. Al Fontanini failed to fire against him in the semi-final, so he advanced at 11.34. He faced the "Mimi-Brute" of Jack Ditmars in the final, and his 8.48/163.63 finished second best to the Opel's 8.36/172. The car was a Hilborn injected funny car. Gene never ran a blower. He also ran this car with an injected Ford SOHC.

Notes: A Rat-motor holdout. Vega's body was built and painted by Don Kirby. The team previously ran a BBC-powered AA/FD. The car was featured in the 11/72 Drag Racing. Gary was at Beeline Dragway in January for the AHRA Winternationals. He had one of the several Chevy-powered FC's that attempted to qualify for the 32 car field. None of them made the show. He also tried to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but he failed to qualify there as well. Cromwell was at the Seattle Northwest Open on April 29. He could not qualify for the sixteen-car field, but Jerry Ruth hurt the engine in his Mustang and could not compete. This allowed Gary to take his spot in the field. His 7.06/199 beat Jim Adolph's troubled 8.01 in the "Rat Trap" in the opening round. Unfortunately, the Chevy powerplant broke against Kenny Goodell in round two.
