Notes: Jim Blake ran his first-ever NHRA National event on July 25 at the Mile High Nationals. A best of 6.20/237.80 was the third alternate for the show. He followed the NHRA tour to Sonoma for the California Nationals where he improved to a 5.90/247.45 best that was good for the second alternate. He did not attempt to qualify for any other NHRA events until October when he showed up at the Texas Motorplex for the Chief Nationals. Jim's 5.692/260.49 failed to qualify (second alternate).

Notes: Blake was at Memphis in the first week of May for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. This was his first NHRA National event since he had run at the '94 Chief Nationals. His 5.73/260.94 qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field, and in the first round, his 5.67/217.49 upset low qualifier Cruz Pedregon. He lost to eventual winner Gary Clapshaw in round two. Jim's best times for 1995 were run at Denver in the high altitude at 5.274/268.41 (qualifying third), although he ran a few other NHRA races nearer to sea level. Blake was at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals. A 5.46/256.11 qualified #14, but he broke in the first round against Whit Bazemore. He also went to Maple Grove in September for the NHRA Keystone Nationals. He qualified on the "bump" with a 5.47/254.52, but a cracked crankshaft kept him out of eliminations. His next stop was at Topeka for the NHRA Craftsman Nationals. Unfortunately, he was the slowest of the 21 cars that showed, and his 5.56/268.17 failed to qualify.

Notes: Blake also raced at Denver for the NHRA Mile-High Nationals. Jim was at Maple Grove in September for the NHRA Keystone Nationals. He ran a career-best 5.227/284.45 to qualify #5. The old Daytona body cracked on the pass and needed to be patched before his first-round race against Gary Bolger. In their race, Jim got out first, but the car suddenly moved towards the wall. Blake backed out of it but then noticed that Bolger was smoking the tires. Gary shut down while Jim got back on it and almost caught Bolger. Gary's 5.744/192.30 advanced. Blake's ride wasn't over; he flew through the traps at 5.773/245.63 and then could not get it stopped. He went off the end of the track. Jim also ran 5.337/280.54 at the Chief Auto Parts Nationals. Did he run 284.64 away from the NHRA circuit this year?

Notes: Purchased from Steve Gold. Ezra qualified #15 at the AHRA Winternationals with an 8.03/191. He lost to Dave Hough in the first round. A 6.416/226.13 qualified him #16 at the NHRA Winternationals, but he was shut off on the line in the first round, with a fuel leak. Boggs was at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Division Four final. Jim Adolph set Low ET and Top Speed in qualifying #1 with a 6.42/205.01. Only six cars showed, and in the first round, his 6.67/198 beat Ezra Boggs' 7.03/208 in the "Moby Dick" Corvette | Also 7.03 DNQ at the Gatornationals and a 6.440/215.82 DNQ at Indy Nats.

Notes: Jerry failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals (#2 alternate, but times not available). Things went even worse at the NHRA Gatornationals, where he crashed during qualifying. The car was reported to be a total loss, but it wasn't too long after the crash (May 1) that Boldenow showed up at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. He lost to Dale Pulde in the second round. He also lost to Pulde in the first round, at the IHRA World Nationals in June. On July 4, Jerry was at Union Grove for the IHRA Summernationals. It was an eight-car show, and his 6.45 qualified #4. In the first round, Danny Pickett fouled against him. In the semifinals, Larry Fullerton broke, and Boldenow advanced with a 6.67/161. He faced Tom McEwen in the final, and the "Goose" was running well as he had set Low ET(6.15)in qualifying. Jerry tried hard in the final, but his 6.47/225.00 finished second best to McEwen's 6.28/218. He did not race at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, but he was at Milan Dragway the following week(July 24)for the IHRA Northern Nationals. It was another eight-car show, and he qualified #5 with a 6.35. That gave him a first-round encounter with low qualifier McEwen. Once again, the two Corvette's lined up, and the results were the same once again. Tom's 6.24 got the better of Jerry's 6.38. Steve Gold sold the car to Ezra Boggs in late 1977.

Notes: This car started as Tommy Smallwood's 'Kingfish' in 1968, was run later in '68-early '69 by Don Schumacher. Schumacher ran this car as a second team car for much of 1969, driven by Ron O'Donnell. Later in 69 bought here by Bud Richter. Eventually, '68 Cuda body gave way to a '70 Cuda body. The car was then sold to Frank McDonald, who ran it in the early-mid 70s. Bolger won over an eight-car show at US 131 on August 30. A first-round 7.41/198.66 beat Larry Christopherson's Nova. In the semifinals, Roger Lindamood lost a transmission, and Gary eased it through to an 8.25/148.27. In the final, he beat Bryan Teal in Nelson Carter's car with a 7.81/195.64. At the time it was claimed that Jerry Cunningham was the car owner.

Shortly after this, he won over an eight-car field at Lebanon Valley. A track record 6.92 at 208 in the final beat Mart Higginbotham. He was at Cecil County for the Maryland State Funny Car Championships, but a 7.26/180.00 in the opening round lost to Bruce Larson's 7.28/200. In June, he was at National Trail for a four-car round-robin race. Bolger ran 7.39/201.34 in the first round, to beat Tony Wahlay's 7.44/199. In round two, Gary's 7.35/204.54 fell to Bobby Rowe's 7.21/205 in the "Super Duster." In the final round, Gary made history as he was the first to run a "six" at National Trail. His 6.85/211.26 easily beat Wahlay's 7.77/188. This was one of the last races for the Charger as the new Mustang was just about finished. ET from Match Race, Columbus OH 6/71.

Notes: The "Gold Digger" used a 120" Logghe chassis. The 426 Hemi used a Reath crank and now displaced 480 cubic inches.MT rods held ForgedTrue pistons, and the cam of choice was Howards. A Gary Dyer prepared GMC 6/71 sat on top of a Cragar intake manifold, and Cragar also supplied the blower drive. The fuel was fed by Enderle injection. A Lenco two-speed was used, and the whole car weighed in at 1,850 lbs. The Mustang body came from Fiberglass Ltd. Gary qualified #9 at NHRA Gainesville at 6.80/214.79. He lost to Pat Foster in round one, 6.64/204 to 6.75/215.31. He qualified #5 at the Springnationals. His times were not listed, but #4 was a 6.80, and #9 was a 6.92, so he was between those two. Gary beat Steve Tansy in round one with a shutting off 11.11 after Tansy broke. Pat Foster got him again in round two, 6.73/215 to 6.87/212.26. The team debuted a new Dodge Charger at IHRA Dragway 42 and then ran NHRA Indy. According to the team, the Mustang's best numbers were 6.64/224. They also ran 6.64 at Tri-City and 6.65 at a match race at National Trail on April 12. We need to validate the 224; the best validated speed is the 215.31 from Gainesville. (See the other entry for the Charger).

He then followed the NHRA tour to Atlanta for the Southern Nationals, where he qualified #13 with a 5.57/241.80. He lost to Tom Hoover in the first round. Memphis was NHRA's next stop for the Mid-South Nationals. Gary's 5.52/253.30 qualified #12 for the show. Unfortunately, Bolger lost to Al Hofmann in the first round. At the NHRA Springnationals, Gary qualified #15 with a 5.55/246.71. But his problems in the first round, continued as although he ran an improved 5.48/255.82, he lost to eventual winner Mike Dunn's 5.37/261. He stopped off at US 131 for an eight-car show run "Chicago-Style," with all eight cars making two runs with the two Low ET's meeting in the final. Gary smoked the tires in his first race against Hoover and slowed to an 8.81/92.24 loss. In his second race, a 5.68/258.15 (Top Speed) beat Pat Walsh and advanced him into the final against Hoover, who had run a 5.62 best. Hoover smoked the tires in the final, and Bolger got the victory with a 5.62/244.60. He did not follow the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals, but he was at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, where he qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field with a 5.53/262.00. Another 5.53 at 261.24 in the first round, lost to low qualifier Jim White's 5.39/273 in the "Hawaiian." Bolger also bypassed the next three NHRA events before appearing at Brainerd for the NorthStar Nationals, where his 5.58/259.59 qualified #9. He finally got past the first-round when his 5.51/264.08 beat Freddie Neely. In the second round, he fouled away a career-best 5.44 at 263.00 against McCulloch, who advanced with a 5.43/264. He went to Indianapolis for the NHRA US Nationals, but his best of 5.72/218.87 failed to qualify. He then went to Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals. There, a new best of 5.34 at 259.06 qualified #9. In the opening round, he beat Gordon Mineo's 5.62/236 with a strong 5.38/253.09. Unfortunately, he lost to eventual winner White in round two. Bolger also qualified for the NHRA Heartland Nationals, where his 5.48/258.99 held on to the #16 spot. He improved by a tenth in the first round, where his 5.38/265.09 lost to White's 5.20/286.

Things were much better at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, where a 5.32/251.80 qualified #9. A 5.34/264.78 in the first round, lost to Gordie Bonin's 5.21/289. Bolger had a good showing at the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified #13 with a 5.41/264.86. A first-round 5.35/262.54 beat Pulde's 5.82/240. In round two, a 5.32/268.57 took out Whit Bazemore's 5.50/209. Unfortunately, he spun the tires in the semifinals and lost to Al Hofmann's 5.17/284. At the NHRA Winston Invitational, Gary had some good luck/bad luck going on. First, he failed to qualify for the eight-car show running a best of 5.54/264.08 for the first alternate. Then Bazemore blew an engine in his already qualified car, and the resulting fire kept him out of eliminations. Bolger took his place in the field and then promptly smoked his tires in his first-round race against Hofmann. Atlanta was NHRA's next stop for the Southern Nationals at the end of April. Gary qualified #11 with a 5.34/272.39. He beat a tire-smoking Del Worsham in the first round with a 5.41/268.89. In round two, his 5.40/264.47 lost to Tom Hoover's 5.28/269. Gary followed the NHRA tour to Memphis for the Mid-South Nationals, where his 5.63/257.65 qualified #14. He improved to 5.39/264.39 in the first round to beat Hofmann's 5.50/269, but the car hurt some parts, and Bolger could not make his second-round race against Hoover. It was then on to Englishtown for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals. A 5.31/269.05 qualified #12, but a better 5.29/266.19 in the first round lost to Cruz Pedregon's 5.14/277. At Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals, Gary qualified #12 with a 5.36/269.29. A 5.41/250.62 in the first round, lost to Hofmann's 5.30/280. Shortly after that, he was at Topeka for the NHRA Western Nationals. He qualified #14 at 5.54/241.61, and a 5.66/237.21 fell to Hofmann's 5.33/281 in the first round. On July 10, he was at Martin, Michigan, for a four-car show. He lost to Bazemore in the final. At Denver, for the NHRA Mile High Nationals, Gary ran 5.61/247.18 to qualify #10. In round one, his 5.68/235.97 lost to John Force's 5.45/266. The following week, the team was at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals. Bolger's 5.51/235.41 qualified #12, and in the first round, he lost a blower belt, and his 5.55/214.38 fell to Etchell's 5.47/270. The next stop was in Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals. A 5.30/262.69 qualified #12, and this time his 5.34/268.73 lost to Mark Oswald's 5.21/284 in round one. DNQ for "main show" at Indy. Gary was 18th overall with a best of 5.35/264.00. Qualified 6th for Big Bud Shootout. Lost to Chuck Etchells in round one. Rick Howard photo from 1993 US Nats (Big Bud Shootout), Indy.

Notes: Bolger qualified #9 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.25/269.29. In the first round, his 5.24/280.54 beat Gary Densham's 5.28/285. In the second round, he pulled an upset as his 5.31/278.12 defeated low qualifier John Force's 5.39/278. His run ended in the semi-final, where his 5.32/278.72 fell to Chuck Etchells' 5.12/285. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he qualified #4 with a 5.19/279.50. In the opening round, he slowed to 5.36/269.38 in a loss to Etchells' 5.20/290. Houston was not kind to the team as Bolger had all kinds of problems, and his 7.36 best failed to qualify. It was his first DNQ since the '93 NHRA U.S. Nationals. His first run was 10.38, and he followed that with times of 12.52, 8.69, and finally, the 7.36. Things went much better at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. A 5.24/270.83 qualified #8. Once again, Etchells beat him in round one. The next stop was at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. Bolger ran 5.26/280.63 to qualify #5 in the eight-car field. This time he lost to Al Hofmann in the first round. At Atlanta, he qualified #7 at 5.27/282.84 but getting past that first round continued to be tough as he lost to Densham this time. Memphis was next on the NHRA calendar, and Bolger qualified #12 for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals with a 5.38/277.52. Force stopped him in round one. Photo from US 131 Dragway, Martin, Michigan.

Notes: Bolger started the season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #8 with a 5.27/284.36. In round one, a better 5.24/284.53 fell to Dale Pulde's 5.23/276. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, a 5.33/284.27 qualified #14. In the opening round, he picked up to a 5.24/283.55 to beat Richard Hartman, but he lost to Whit Bazemore in round two. Car owner Dale Creasy installed a computer in the car for the first time at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Qualifying there wasn't much of an issue as only 16 cars showed. Still, Gary's 5.31/272.56 was the slowest of the bunch. In the opening round of eliminations, Bolger's 5.63/200.57 fell to low qualifier Al Hofmann's 5.13/295. The next NHRA event was the Slick 50 Nationals held at Houston. A 5.30/283.55 qualified #15, and Gary lost to Tim Wilkerson in the first round. The team did not compete at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational event. Once again, only 16 cars showed in Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. A Super Stock-like time of 10.95/72.45 qualified #14 (two cars were slower!). But once again, he lost in the opening round, this time to Gary Densham. Early in May, the team was at Richmond for the NHRA Virginia Nationals. A strong 5.18/278.20 qualified #9. After that, things went wrong. He beat Dean Skuza in round one, with a 5.53/206.18, but that came with the engine blowing and causing the car to turn into a fireball. The body was completely destroyed. Gary was alright, but the car was done, and there was no way it could be repaired for a round-two battle against John Force. Gary didn't miss a beat and was back behind the wheel at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. There he qualified #12 with a 5.29/275.48. Unfortunately, he lost to Tony Pedregon in round one. Bolger failed to qualify for the Big Go with a best of 5.28/287.53 but managed to qualify for the Big Bud Shootout. He lost in round one, to John Force (photo). Gary's best times of the year came in a round two loss to John Force at Topeka, 4.94/308 to 5.099/292.49. Rick Howard photo from 1996 US Nats, Indy.
