Notes: Injected fuel. 1964 Chevelle with 1965 front end. Ran car into early 1966. | Durham kept pace with the funny car revolution of 1965, updating the Chevelle with 1965 sheetmetal and ading injectors and nitromethane. Those changes netted bests of 9.56 and 150 mph. - From "#48: Top NHRA Drivers of All Time" |

Notes: 348" smallblock (289) Hilborn-injected Ford on 90% nitro, C-4 auto trans. Car was reported by Jeff Foulk to be undergoing a 100 percent correct restoration in 2010. This car got major press when it was the subject of a five-page feature in the 2/69 issue of Super Stock & Drag Illustrated. "SS&DI Drives a Fuel Funny Car" regaled readers with the (successful) efforts of SS&DI editor Jim McCraw to earn his NHRA Funny Car Competition license. - RT |

Notes: Dated photos confirm this car ran under the banner of "Fred Gibb Super Camaro Dealers" in the summer of '69. 7.37 Green Valley ick Harrell was the model drag racer of the 1960s. His race cars were immaculate his car haulers were kept clean, and Harrell's interaction with sponsors and fans was second to none. Known as "Mr. Chevrolet," Harrell was one the most successful racers in AHRA drag racing history. Dick raced a series of stockers, super stockers, and factory experimentals until reaching the funny car ranks. Many felt his best funny car was the Fred Gibb-sponsored 1969 Camaro. Don Hardy built the car in his Floydada, Texas, shop. The Camaro featured a 427 Chevrolet Rat for power backed by an automatic transmission. The car won many match races during 1969, running a best of 7.35 at 200 MPH plus. Info provided by James Ibusuki. - BS | On February 16, Harrell ran 7.81 for the Miami-Hollywood track record. Also ran 7.58 at Bristol. - Ron Howard |
