Notes: The former Don Gay "Infinity" GTO. Stokes & Marinan stretched the front end and plunked in an injected late hemi. The car was a popular fixture on the Upper Midwest funny car circuit. Complete car less engine/trans could be had for $2,200 or best offer per classified "for sale" ad in a March 8/1969 issue of Drag News. Best times of 8.5/163.0 were as cited in the ad; "Infinity" lineage confirmed by owner Stokes there as well. Original car is said in online forums to have been located, with a planned restoration to the Blue Bandit configuration. - RT |

Notes: Having purchased and raced the previous Don Gay "Infinity" '66 GTO as Blue Bandit II, Stokes subsequently purchased Gay's '68 Firebird funny as well. Again, a hemi (early or late vintage unknown) supplanted Poncho power. No indication from photos that this Blue Bandit iteration carried a "III" on the shell. - RT |

Notes: A Romeo Palamides-constructed, rear-engine entry commissioned after Stokes' mini-Charger was totalled in an accident. The Duster hit the wall on its initial US 30 (Gary, IN) outing. The body was replaced, but there were no subsequent runs. The car was reportedly stored and sold five years later. |

Notes: Won Division 4 in 1967. Fred Rowsey bought the Banzai car (and name, I assume) from Eddie Bauman in 66. He and George Cox ran it for a while before Fred bought a new never-run Woody chassis from Grantham in Arizona, whose first name escapes me. Anyway, Fred called it Banzai II for 67, bought a couple of complete KBs, and hired John Wilson to tune and run the car, which is about the time I got hired by John at GCP, the fuel company Fred bought from Neil, who owned the Texas Shark car. Later that summer, Fred and John had a disagreement and Split ways, putting George Cox back in the seat and as the tuner. - Bob Gibson |

Notes: The Speed Sport modified roadster campaigned by Lyle Fisher, Gary "Red" Greth, and Don Maynard, one of the more popular cars of its era, produced record-setting performances from 1956 through the early 1960s. Powered by a 354-cid rear-mounted Chrysler Hemi, the 1,500-pound roadster stunned observers with a speed record of 160.14 mph at the 1957 ATAA World Series at Cordova, Ill., and finished the year with a clocking of 169.11 in Tucson, Ariz. Other records include an 8.03/175.78 in March 1960. An 180.72 backed up by a 179.28 on October 2/1960. And the Drag News 1320 Standard Modified Fuel Roadster speed mark of 183.67 eight days later in Alton, Ill. The Speed Sport roadster remained competitive well into the mid-1960s, qualifying for Top Fuel at the 1963 AHRA Winternationals and making its final appearance at the 1964 Bakersfield March Meet.
