Notes: Ken started the '87 NHRA season by qualifying #10 at Pomona for the Winternationals with a 7.53/184.69. He lost to Warren Johnson in the first round. At the Gatornationals, a 7.53/184.53 qualified #15, but again he lost in the first round, this time to Darrell Alderman. He attempted to make the field at Atlanta for the Southern Nationals, but his best of 7.59/182.03 was good for the third alternate. The next event was the Cajun Nationals at Baton Rouge. Delco qualified #14 with a 7.65/182.01, and in the first round, he beat Lee Dean. He had problems in round two and shut off against Bruce Allen. That was the last race of the Camaro before Kenny went to the Trans Am for Columbus. If anyone knows the best ET/MPH for Kenny in this Camaro for 1987, please let us know. - Rob McCabe |

Notes: Listed times from Drag Racing List December 86/January 87, Volume 1, Number 9. | Jerry started the '86 NHRA season by qualifying #6 at Pomona for the Winternationals with a 7.589/181.08. A first-round 7.63/176.47 beat Roy Hill's 7.69/179, but in round two he fouled away a 761 in a loss to Nick Nikolis' 7.60. He did the same thing at the Gatornationals; a first-round 7.59/177.86 beat Ken Dondero's 7.69/179, but in the semifinals, he fouled away a 7.61/179.35 against eventual winner Don Campanello who ran 7.63/180 for the win. The next event was the Southern Nationals at Atlanta in April. Jerry qualified #8 with a 7.61/180.57. He beat Kenny Delco in the first round, before losing to Butch Leal in round two. It was off to Baton Rouge for the Cajun Nationals. Once again Eckman had no problem qualifying in the top half of the field with a 7.60/182.66 (#6). Unfortunately, he lost to Reid Whisnant in the first round. On June 15 he was at National Trail for the Springnationals where he ran 7.61/179.42 to qualify #8. A first-round 7.70/178.74 beat Campanello's 7.84/176. In round two, he was sharp on the tree turning a 7.69/179.53 to beat Dave Hutchens' quicker 7.66/176. In the semifinal, Jerry's 7.71/179.96 lost to Leal's 7.63/182. The NHRA tour then shifted to Canada for the Grandnationals where Jerry ran 7.64/181.37 to qualify #7. | At the NHRA US Nationals Eckman ran 7.559/185.45 to qualify #10 in the 16 car field. In round 1 Eckman Faced #2 Qualifier Bruce Allen where Eckman's 7.592/181.34 was no match for the eventual Runner Up Allen's 7.492/183.48. |

Notes: Teamed with Rod Shop. Listed times from Drag Racing List Volume 1, Number 9. Photo from Indy 87. | Leal qualified #3 at the season opening Winternationals at Pomona with a 7.582/182.55. In the first round, he ran another 7.58 at 179.28 to advance when Stan Mizell broke on the line. In the second round, Ken Dondero fouled against him and Leal went into the semifinals with a 7.62. He faced Frank Iaconio in that semi final race and Leal fouled away a 7.63 that let Iaconio's 7.64 go on into the final. At the Gatornationals, a 7.53/184.95 qualified #3. He beat Dave Hutchens in the first round, with a 7.55/182.70 and in round two, a 7.56/183.00 beat Dempsey Hardy. Butch got a jump on Bruce Allen in the semifinals, winning with a 7.54/183.22 over Allen's 7.52/179. In the final he faced Don Campanello. Unfortunately, Leal beat himself when he fouled away a 7.54/183.29 giving Campanello his first NHRA win. The next stop on the NHRA tour was at Atlanta for the Southern Nationals. Butch qualified #4 with a 7.56/183.89 and in round one, he beat Reid Whisnant. In the second round, he only ran 7.89/180, but still advanced over Jerry Eckman. The semifinals saw Leal face Bob Glidden. Bob beat Leal to the finish and then had his T-Bird crash and roll at the top end of the track. Bob was OK. Leal got back into the finals at the next race, the Cajun Nationals at Baton Rouge. There he qualified #4 with a 7.59/185.91. He beat Hardy in the first round, and in round two, a 7.63/167.03 advanced when Don Coonce fouled. In the semifinals, he beat Reid Whisnant with a 7.66/180. But in the final, he fouled and gave Warren Johnson the win. All things went right for Butch at Columbus for the Springnationals on June 15. He qualified #2 with a 7.58/183.03. Coonce was Leal's first victim which he took out with a 7.67/181.58. Somewhere along the way to round two he found 5 mph when he beat Iaconio with a 7.67 at a new track speed record of 186.25. In the semifinal, a 7.63/182.03 beat Eckman's 7.71/179. In the final he faced Johnson and this time their roles were reversed from the final at Baton Rouge. WJ fouled and Leal motored to a 7.61/182.81 victory. | At the NHRA US Nationals Leal qualified #5 with a 7.509/184.08. He faced #13 qualifier Joe Clark in round 1 where Leal won on a Baby holeshot with a 7.601/167.44 to Clark's losing 7.597/179.49. In round 2 Butch was to face #1 Qualifier Bob Glidden but Leal broke & The Eventual winner Glidden got the single. |

Notes: Sicinski had "Dyno Don" Nicholson and Earl Wade run the car at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals to help Frank sort it out. After that, he was behind the wheel at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. With 48 cars attempting to make the field, his 7.740/177.79 qualified #12. He had one of the four Fords that made the field. His 7.83/176.81 beat Dave Hutchens in the opening round of eliminations. In the second round, both he and his opponent, Gordie Rivera, had problems with Frank's 9.26/118.07 trailing Gordie's 8.26/145 to the line. He then went to Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, where things didn't work out as well as his 7.90/175.57 (tenth alternate)failed to crack the 7.84 "bump." He then went to Baton Rouge rear the end of May for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. Once again, he failed to qualify; this time, his 7.79/180.07 left him as the fourth alternate. There were 34 cars at Columbus trying to get a spot in the sixteen-car show. Sicinski ended up as the seventh alternate with a 7.82/177.09 best. Frank attempted to qualify at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, but his 7.76 best failed to crack the 7.74 bump to get into the field. Best NHRA national event time ere were 7.740 at Gainesville and 180.07 at Baton Rouge. Also raced in the Texas Pro Stock Association. |

Notes: In June, Frank was at Hallsville Dragstrip for the Texas Pro Stock Association opener. It was a 1,000-foot track, and Sicinski qualified #1 with a 6.76 (Low ET) at 159.87. Pat Pesz fouled against him in the first round, and Frank's 7.22/151.51 advanced. He had a close race with Richard Otwell in the semi-final that saw the T-Bird's 6.93/157.89 beat the Firebird's 6.94/149. He faced the only other Ford in the field in the final, Neil Hieb's T-Bird. We have no times for the final, but Sicinski picked up the win. |

Notes: NHRA and Texas Pro Stock Association racers. Mickey died at the 85 Cajun Nationals. | A man who loved the sport of drag racing. Also owned and operated a speed & machine shop in Austin, TX, in the mid 80s. The car was built by Bobby Sconci, Mickey and Weldon Tadlock. Car and Mickey succumbed to a fatal crash in the 1985 Cajun Nationals, which was a blow to all of us. My dad died doing what he loved. - Mark Harris | Texas Pro Stock Association member |
