Notes: If you were a Chevy guy, this is the car you rooted for in '85. The little small block was turning some amazing times. He was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals where his 6.52/208.04 qualified #8. He slowed to a 6.68/203.89 in the opening round and lost to Jim Scott's 6.43/215. Rick was at Famoso in May for the NHRA Division 6 race. It was a sixteen-car field, and he qualified #9 with a 6.54/208.33. He faced low qualifier Scott in round one, but Scott broke so Santos advanced with a 6.57/200.89. In round two, he beat Alan Johnson's 6.63/205 with a 6.58/205.94. He ran his best of the weekend, a 6.52/205.94, in the semifinals, but it wasn't enough as he lost to eventual winner Walt Rhoades' 6.47/214. At the next Division 6 race at Fremont on May 19, he qualified #5 with a 6.437/202.70. It was another sixteen-car show and in the first round, his 6.52/205.94 advanced when Gary Christensen fouled. Unfortunately, in round two it was he who fouled, throwing away a 6.46/196.07 in a loss to Bruce McDowell's 6.37/216. The next Division 6 race was at Sears Point on June 23. Rick qualified #8 with a 6.51/209.30. In the first round, he fouled against Ken Hickson. Top qualifier at the LACR ADRL race at 6.81. George Santos / S & S Automotive | At the NHRA Winston Finals, Santos qualified #9 with a 6.469/210.47 & drew #1 qualifier Walt Rhoades in round 1 where Santos Red Lighted. |

Notes: Vic was at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals near the end of July. His 6.85/200.44 qualified #5, setting up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Jimmy Scott. Anderson's 6.94/199.11 was no match for Scott's 6.72/200. No Rodeck-powered cars qualified for the eight-car field at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals in August. Anderson was the closest, with his 6.72/205.94 being the third alternate. He was also the third alternate at Indy for the NHRA U.S. Nationals with a 6.611/209.20 best. |

Notes: Pearson qualified on the bump at the Bakersfield Fuel & Gas Championships with a 5.754/233.76. | Ralph was the second alternate at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals with a 6.110/233.76. Shortly after that, he was at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals. A 5.934/231.36 qualified #15, but he lost to Eddie Hill in the opening round. He failed to qualify at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, where he could only run a best of 6.218/187.50. Formerly listed 5.57/246.84, but that speed was from Ontario 1985, and we are pulling the ET until we get confirmation. |

Notes: Started year in the Trans Am, which had best times of 5.374 at 276.49. Best times for the Thunderbird body were 5.369 at 266.74. Keeping only one entry for this team in 1989 with combined times. Art started his '89 season by qualifying his Firebird #4 in the eight-car field at Firebird Raceway's Super Bowl of Drag Racing event with a 5.49. He made it all the way to the final before losing to Ed McCulloch. At Pomona, he qualified #15 with a 5.51/266.27 for the NHRA Winternationals. A first-round 5.54/260.94 beat Scott Kalitta's 5.78/218, but he lost to Jim White in the second round. At the second NHRA event of the season, the Supernationals a 5.37 qualified #8 and this time he made it into the semifinals, after getting around Kenny Bernstein who broke a rear end in round two, where he ran Scott Kalitta, but smoked the tires and lost. He qualified #7 with a 5.40 at the Gatornationals on March 19. Once again he made it into the semifinals after stopping Mark Oswald in the second round with a 5.45/270. In the semifinal, Art broke on the line against Ed McCulloch. Rockingham hosted the NHRA Winston Invitational in early April and Art qualified #6 in the eight-car field. The track was damp from rain and all cars were only allowed one shot to make the show. Hendey got in with a 6.94/185.51. Not to bad for the conditions considering that McCulloch and Mark Oswald failed to qualify and only got in as alternates. Art lost to John Force in round one. He was in Atlanta for the Southern Nationals where he qualified #2 with a 5.39/268.97, but he lost to Force in the first round, again. The NHRA tour's next stop was at Memphis for the Mid South Nationals. Art used a 5.47/242.65 to qualify #10, but lost to Don Prudhomme in the second round. Art then went to Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals where he qualified #8 in the eight-car field with a 5.74/257.57. He faced McCulloch in the first round, and he crossed the centerline. The following week he was at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. A 5.56/262.54 qualified #7, but he lost in the first round. He took another first-round loss at the NHRA Springnationals where after qualifying #10 with a 5.50/263.75 he lost to Bruce Larson's 5.25/271 with a 5.75/193.88. He followed the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals. A 5.65/256.11 qualified #12, and he beat McCulloch in the first round, with a 5.63/260.79. In round two, both he and Kalitta fought for traction and Hendey's 6.95/163.51 came out on top. This matched him up against Oswald in the "Candies & Hughes" car in the semifinals. Art ran a 5.85/250 that lost to Oswald's 5.60/238. Next stop was at Milan Dragway for IHRA's Northern Nationals. Art qualified #4 there, but he lost to Jerry Caminito in the first round. His bad luck continued at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. Although he qualified #11 with a 5.45/269.62 he once again lost early. This time it was eventual winner Bernstein who stopped him in the first round. On July 23,Art showed up in Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals in his T-Bird. His 5.83/239.80 qualified #9, and he lost to low qualifier Bernstein in the first round, again. He made it past the first-round at the NHRA California Nationals. Art's 5.47/271.16 qualified #8 and in round one, his 5.53/270.10 beat a tire-smoking Richard Hartman. In round two, both he and Oswald smoked the tires with Mark's 6.49/239 getting the win light over his 6.87/201.34. | At the IHRA Loctite/Nationwise World Nationals, Hendey qualified #3 in the 8 Car field with a 5.632/267.06 & Faced #6 qualifier Whit Bazemore in round 1. Hendey ran 5.845/247.93 in his losing effort to Bazemore's 5.756/252.81. |

Notes: At the end of May, Gilbertson was at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals. There were sixteen FC's that attempted to qualify for the eight-car field. His 6.12/236.50 qualified on the "bump." In the opening round of eliminations, he lost to Chuck Etchells. Gilbertson was running at his first NHRA National Event at the Summernationals at Englishtown. Twenty-one cars were attempting to qualify, and his 5.696/250.76 was the third alternate. Bob ran 5.66/252 on a single in Round 2 of the 1990 US All Pro Funny Car Championships at Englishtown (Video in link). |
